Manga/Anime You Read/Watch

I see where the 8.25/10 on MAL might come from, but still, worth a 7/10 for me. Basically the comedy and the characters are what got this anime an 8 on MAL. I gotta admit that for a shonen, the comedy wasn't bad at all, and the characters were for once interesting, such as Kofuku Ebisu. Overall, any shonen amateur would probably enjoy it. I didn't like it but the characters were worth the watch. Nisekoi: Man, when I finished the first episode I was like "Why does the art seem familiar? It's waaaay too familiar, I've seen this style somewhere. I go check the studio. Guess what, it's fucking Shaft. Then it hit me, some of the way the scenes are drawn is exactly the same as in some of the scenes in the Monogatari Series. Then biased me was like "doesn't matter if it's a good or trash anime, if it's Shaft, then I'm watching it no matter what." Turned out that Shaft actually saved this anime. I'm fairly confident that if Nisekoi was adapted by any other studio, it won't have as much success as it has right now. Nisekoi is the incarnation of the romcom stereotype. There's nothing original about it. It's the same 1 guy meet 1 girl during childhood, love promises and shit. Years later, the girl shows up. But then more girls show up. A tsundere, a sweet one, an "I wanna be a man" one, and the killjoy princess-like one that steps in to spice the shit up when it starts getting boring. Unlucky shit happens for the male main character, like locked in the girl's locker room with a half naked girl (surprise surprise) and such. Fanservice wasn't as obnoxious as I thought it'd be. No pairings are clear yet, which is good since we know there's a season 2. The comedy though, was actually casual but consistent. I liked it. The art was great, and in the end it was a really nice watch. I'd recommend it for any romcom lover out there. Right now I started watching Yahari ore no seishun love come wa machigatteiru. Another romcom. The thing is that I'm already hating the art, looks bad to me :/[/quote]

Most of the time, in any other anime, the male and female protagonists would get extremely self conscious, paving the way for romantic development, or at least comedic fun at watching them squirm under the situation. 5) Being a loner, Hachiman is surprisingly honest when admitting the beauty of other female characters. Hachiman has no problem on commenting if he thinks someone looks beautiful or cute. In the first volume he openly calls Yukino beautiful which made her flustered. In the LN he often comments to himself, the beauty or cuteness level of a character. Very, VEEERRRY, few characters in other anime do this. 6) This is open for debate, but in my opinion, Hachiman is not dense. In romances, the male protagonist is usually either denser than a rock or so full of confidence he might as well just end the series in his first meeting with the female heroin. Hachiman seems to be at the very least partially aware of Yui's feelings towards him as seen in vol. 7 when he comments to himself that "someone(Yui?) is acting strange". He seems to be aware of Yui's various romantical advances on him and is very careful to avoid these situations. 7) This is a post that someone had put on another forum, which I think simplifies much of the non-cliche's in the series. "I think I have never seen a scene a more normal scene with almost nothing happening and everything changing" - creationist96754 8) Hikkigaya is one of the few if only characters, who is extremely prideful of his way of life, but also extremely aware of his weaknesses and shortcomings. This can be seen during the culture festival, when he concludes how to deal with Sagami, and practically all throughout vol. 8 and vol. 9. Few protagonists of any series are this mature. 9) The series breaks a lot of stereotypes and cliche's. My Youth Romantic Comedy is Wrong as I Expected is a truly fitting title. The novels build up sooo many romantic situations, that in any other novel/anime would have ended in concrete romantic progress, only to end it anti-climatically and extremely normal/realistically. For example, romantic build up, with Yukino being a pretend girlfriend while shopping with Hikki, only for him to nonchalantly say "okay" and they continue on like normal. Hikki practically goes on a date with Yui during the fireworks festival, which in any other series would have lead to some sort of romantic progress, only for the day to end pretty normal. They are the ones from the other civilization which Dr. Jaeger works with (hence when he left the area, it was attacked). Reiner and the other titan shifters want to cleanse these species that are experimented on and will be doomed to turn into titans soon. Right now though...I really think that the titans created the humans. I read somewhere that the titans were the ones to build the walls and seal themselves dormant inside. [spoiler=Chapter 51 of the manga, BIG SPOILER] Titans are humans. ALL of them. I was theorizing this since about chapter 37, almost 15 chapters(a over a year) before it was revealed >:D And the normal stupid titans are seemingly tools, not the smart shape-shifting ones.[/spoiler] [spoiler=Chapter 55 of the manga]Another one of my theories is that there are four factions at work. Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie belonging to one of them, Eren and the Scouting Legion belonging to another, the monkey titan belonging to a third and the royal family, sacred cult-thingie and royal guard belonging to a fourth. The monkey faction probably has to do with the origin of the titans, and it seems they have been around from far before the humans, seeing as the monkey was surprised to hear a human talk. I'm not sure where Dr.Jaeger stands, but it would seem as if he's trying to mediate between the factions.[/spoiler] Another theory is that the English name itself is a hint at something, because the title doesn't really make any sense. The more correct translation of Shingeki No Kyojin (the Japanese title) is Advancing Giants. I think I'm on a spree of anime that have insanely done characters (except for Nisekoi, that was as generic as a romcom character can get, still it was a good romcom). The MC is really something, Yui was okay, a typical highschool girl. Yukino on the other hand was great. The comedy was well done, got to laugh every episode. I'm still salty about the romance, they could have at least gave more hints, it really feels frustrating. It was a good watch overall, I wasn't let down. Season 2 must have romance I guess, otherwise I'd be seriously pissed. Well I think I have watched most notorious romcoms. I don't know if lifebaka still checks this thread, I wanna ask him about his favourite romcoms, maybe he has something worth a watch that I haven't heard of. Anyway, I feel like I can handle a bit of fanservice, I'm gonna watch Highschool DxD. Don't judge me. I tried to watch Golden Time, dropped it 5 mins into Episode 1. Dunno if I just wasn't in the mood for it, but it felt thick, annoying. I'll give it a try when I run out of anime to watch. EDIT: I just finished the 1st episode of Highschool DxD, it turns out the word "Fanservice" wasn't really accurate. Borderline Hentai is more suitable.[/quote]
