I didn't find highschool to be superfluous, fortunately. I had the best time of my life and I didn't feel that it was that split up in different social groups, but perhaps I've been lucky with my school. I've never really cared much about social status, if I like people I talk to them and hang out with them. Even though I was one of the popular guys at school. And I think that was the main reason why I got popular to begin with. I don't judge people before I get to know them..
I only thought that social status meant that much in American movies xD (jk)
I've never seen it as that big a problem among people I know..
But I'm glad you still enjoyed your high school years :)
This. Sounds like my experience with school.
Also sounds almost EXACTLY like my high school, which I've come to realize, I was very lucky to attend. Never REALLY realized how incredibly harsh some high-schools are, in terms of your social status.
I guess, In my school, there were really two types of popular kids.
1.) The star athletes, who were popular for that reason. But, I guess they weren't like the stereotypical Jocks you think about. I was friends with some of 'em, and talked to all of them on a day to day basis.
2.) Then there's the other popular kids, that were popular just for the simple fact that everyone liked them. Most of them also played sports, but weren't at the GOD-LIKE TIER that the star athletes were. Like myself, I played football for 4 years, and started all four but wasn't like All-State like a few in my class were.
I wouldn't exactly classify myself as "popular", because that just ****ing sounds weird and egotistical to me. But yeah, I was very well liked, got along with literally everyone, and just in general enjoyed my high-school experience as much as I could. So, take that as you will.

I dont have only one place, but many:
#1: Quiet person - i dont talk much, jusp pay attention
#2: Popular - i know everyone in class and many other people of other classes
#3: Support - i help everyone who needs a hand, i teach things to the others or solve personal problems
#4: Leader - the popular and support status made me the leader, so my word is the last

Glad I'm not the only one being lucky to attend to such a school.
However, athletes weren't even more popular than others at my school. It was just something you were better at than others, if someone was pro at sports.
Wintermond: I had that type in my class. He could answer every damn question he was asked except in math, but he was too busy with his computer, making stuff for role-playing and he didn't contribute to the lessons, cause he knew it all beforehand xD

Loud, obnoxious, insecure, few friends, but tall as hell so nobody ever really picked on me (most of the time I was 5 inches taller than the average height XD)
Sort of got hooked on LoL on SC2, was depressed for a while, schoolwork went to ****, but it's all good, everything's K now.

... C'mon guys, tell me how bad you feel for me.
One funny thing is that everywhere I go, people call me weird. Even here =)
That should get me some sympathy...
