The best damage items on him would be Blade of the Ruined King and Phantom Dancer, as they both scale well with the bonus damage of Drunken Rage.

You may be on to something. Keep this information top secret and show it to no one while I do extensive testing

Have you ever played bruiser Gragas? Didn't find it fun? No big deal. I did.

Cool story. Don't think I've ever mentioned or even implied anything you just said.

His presence comes from a surprising amount of damage dished out from Drunken Rage+ Body Slam+AA+ Iceborn Gauntlet, his ulti for the displacement, late game Q helps in dueling, high mobility, tankyness, sustain and his crit animation is insane.

A long time ago it was a thing until people realized the potential of his AP scaling.

Uh, no. Before AP Gragas people didn't play him. This was season 1 in Dreamhack.
And if you want to see how bad AD Gragas is just compare him with other bruisers.

You didn't mention anything of the sort, I was just asking a question and summarizing why I sometimes play him that way.

I have compared him with everyone else available, and I know how limited he is. Doesn't make him unplayable. Still fun. People will rage/complain/berate, as seen on this thread, but whatever.

I'm not even defending playing him bruiser over AP, just saying it cna be done and it's fun to do it once in a while.

lol?

this thread was about top gragas being viable.

then darcurse mentioned about bruiser gragas being SERIOUS and VIABLE and backed it up with actual arguments. i then respond to him saying why it's not. Then you randomly butt in and say say i'm not having fun. That by itself doesn't even correlate. I respond to why it's not viable in a thread discussing about the viability of a champ, so logically speaking unless you directly mention that it's a fun build there's no reason for you to banter back because we'd both agree that it's for fun and not for a serious game.

But after that you back up your claim by saying "AD gragas has presence with a bunch of reasons why," and from simple deduction anyone would see that you meant ad gragas was a serious build. I then respond saying that it doesn't.

Then you respond saying that it's simply fun and you meant that all along with nothing about viability??

Unless having presence and being strong = having fun in your dictionary I really don't get the logic behind your claims.

AD gragas can be fun. I never said it wasn't. In a thread discussing viability with no mention of sidetracking into builds being fun, i don't think your point has any meaning unless you're intentionally trying to discuss how fun it is, which you clearly haven't demonstrated in your last few posts.

TL;DR: included.
Fun is key to me. It's a bonus, so to speak. So, if a build isn't optimal, but it works and is fun, I go with it.

Wasn't trying to actually argue anything, mostly. You said it wasn't viable and didn't exactly say why either. You just said it sucked. I said it can work and it's fun. See how it goes?

You asked my reasons for it being fun: I like the crit animation, I really enjoy playing unorthodox builds/champs, Gragas is by far my favorite champion, I find Body Slam and crit animations funny, amongst other things.

Now, as you wish, I'm not talking fun anymore. Viability. I have used it and it worked. Sometimes. Mostly it worked when I had a bursty mid that could capitalize on engages with ulti or on E slows. I had real trouble against ranged harass early game because wave clear becomes an issue. Once I got tanky enough it didn't bother much but it meant I was either even or behind and farmed under tower half the time.
Against most melees it was more about playing aggresively early and not overusing E to be able to escape ganks. I found he has a safe-ish laning phase and most opponents have no idea the amount of damage he can do, which isn't to be scoffed at but falls off late-game.
After Iceborn Gauntlet, engages are very very good. Slow from E, then proc gauntlets with Q for another slow and added damage.
Masteries were 14/16/0 but I don't know if that's gonna work since you'd need more points into the offensive tree to get even less penetration. Which sucks.
Runes are hybrid pen reds, armor seals, scaling mr blues and hybrid pen quints. Sometimes I ran AD quints for better farming but wasn't overwhelmed.
Build core was Mercury's Treads, Iceborn Gauntlet, Sunfire Aegis. I really liked getting Abyssal Mask, especially if team had good AP damage. From then on it varied a lot. If ahead I went for some damage or magic pen and if even just more tankyness.

TL;DR: wall of text about bruiser Gragas.
