If you don't want mana drained in battle, you can pick up defensive mana options, like Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet. Hell, I think even Trinity Force gives some mana. Mana drained in-combat is different from mana drained from harassment, which is more suitable for Athene's Unholy Grail. Manamune isn't a good choice for Lucian due to his very high early game mana costs, making it difficult to build unless you just spam skills in base (and you can only fire two of them, since I think the line-nuke needs a target).
A Last Whisper as your 2nd full non-boots item is weird imo. The enemy probably doesn't have enough armor at this point in the game to warrant it, and you're probably better off building Phantom Dancer/ Statikk Shiv into an Infinity Edge here. Runaan's Hurricane is a trap, since it only gives one stat and is verrrrrrrrry expensive. The only carry I build it on is Ashe since it applies Frost Shot, and it is a last offensive item OPTION then.

It's pretty bad. TBH, Lucian plays more or less like an AD caster carry, much like Graves. AS isn't as good on him as you'd think, and his AD ratios are very high. Rush Bloodthirster, grab a Last Whisper, and then worry about attack speed. Also, why would you ever buy a chalice/grail on an ad carry? If you're really that desperate for mana, I'd tell you to build a Muramana, but honestly Lucian shouldn't need it (Unless the RNG and bug Gods hate you, and make every one of your Q's triple mana).
TL;DR: Build him like Graves.

Build i have been using recently on him...it seems to work atm too.
1st - Doran's Blade
2nd - Avarice Blade - becomes a Executioner's Calling*
3rd - Trinity Force
4th - Blade of the Ruined King
5th - Phantom Dancer
6th - Infinity Edge
Currently testing the Executioner's Calling on him, first few times i made a Youmuu's Ghostblade but i thought id try a different item i dont use much.
Also note i dont always do my build in that order, sometimes i rush the Blade of the Ruined King then go for the Trinity Force.
Just my input.

Pretty much this. Could also pick up a Zeal / PD / Shiv in between BT and LW.
Botrk on him is a noob trap, along with other "on hit" builds. Most of his damage comes from his passive and Q (which has ridiculous AD scaling). Your passive benefits more from AD than AS / on hit. You can be a real bully / bursty in lane when you built BT. You probably wouldn't even get BotrK later for dealing with bruisers because if a bruiser / assassin tries to dive you just use your ult to melt them down.
Last item options could be an IE (passive can crit) or another BT honestly, as well as normal defensive options.
Thanks to GrandMasterD for my sig!

I have been playing Lucian quite a bit since his release and I am loving him so much and I have even tried to create my own item build to improve his chances (like he needs it)
OK first off i usually start with Doran's Blade
Then I work my way into creating Blade of the Ruined King and Berserker's Greaves- To me this should be the basis of any Lucian blade because he becomes OP at this point in the game
Next I work towards building Last Whisper and Runaan's Hurricane to boost attack damage and attack speed whilst adding that glorious extra hit to truly dominate lane
if you have time in the game I actually try to create an Athene's Unholy Grail due to Lucian mana being easily drained in battle (if you got Clarity though this can help alot in your game I think)
Finally I would work to finishing off your build with an Infinity Edge to boost your critical chance, I left this last because I feel that with the other items, Infinity Blade is the cherry on the cake, makes the build that much more sweeter but always has to go on last ;)
Total cost of this build: 15,550
