So I recently did this in a game against a Graves-Taric combo and it turned the laning phase around for me. What is your opinion on rushing Last Whisper as an ad carry when facing off against Taric?

Delays better items.

That's it, really.

Last whisper is more useful if the enemies have tons of armor, it'll be just waste of money if thats not happening
You could rush a TBC instead, that gives more damage, AS and has armor reduction effect

Wouldn't rush The Black Cleaver anyway, both rushing TBC and LW are terrible ideas.

There's just so many better first items that there is no point to go for a Supportive-DPS item. (It's not your main damage item, but it helps your main damage item, so there's no point getting either one first since you'd be gimping your damage and your build order completely compared to someone going a standard route.)

Ok, the champion I was playing was Sivir who relies on Boomerang Blade for the majority of her harass in the laning phase. And once Taric has his w leveled up he is giving Graves and extra 30 armor in addition to Graves armor from his passive and Taric gets 60 additional armor. Last Whisper is much cheaper than an item such as Infinity Edge and it is a part of my normal build unlike TBC or Brutalizer.

That may be a situation where its a good idea to rush a last whisper, but thats the exception not the rule. An early BF sword is always better unless both people in your lane can get crazy armor early.

Yeah, I almost always rush B.F. sword after one or two Doran's. The only other option is sometimes I rush Wriggle's if I have a support who does not have a heal. I am just proposing this as an exception for those rare cases to see what others have to say about the viability. I have only seen it as appropriate once up to this point.

I prefer just getting the vamp scepter and turning it into a BT later. Wriggles might help you in lane but it also delays your damage items, rendering you useless in early/mid fights.

Last Whisper, contrary to popular belief, is fine at early levels and low armor, too. It's cheap and scales into late-game well. I wouldn't rule it out.

If I have 50 Armor, I'm taking 67% normal damage. If someone has a Last Whisper, they're hitting me as if I had 30 Armor, which is 77% normal damage. (15% more damage.)
If I have 100 Armor, I'm taking 50% normal damage. If someone has a Last Whisper, they're hitting me as if I had 60 Armor, which is 63% normal damage. (26% more damage.)
If I have 200 Armor, I'm taking 33% normal damage. If someone has a Last Whisper, they're hitting me as if I had 120 Armor, which is 45% normal damage. (36% more damage.)
The reason the curve isn't that tremendous is because armor is less and less valuable as you get more of it.

I think it's an undervalued item, placed in the "niche" corner for when the opponents stack armor. I don't think it deserves that spot. I think it's great on plenty of carries. (But, if given the opportunity, I'd rather rush an Infinity Edge and a Phantom Dancer and get it later.)

Thanks to Jeffy40Hands for the quilt!
