Rakan seems like a decent support, but nowhere near top tier. Q is very specific and hard to hit if not point blank, his "Headbutt+pulverize" on a stick is very easily flash/dashed out of since there's a clear delay between the arrival and the knockup unlike Ali. You really need to ult if you want a 100% sure engage.

It's true his shield was one of the things that actually made him competent, and his q heal is decent when doing drake/baron, but other than that he's a very squishy engage/disruption champ and he doesn't really offer enough to constantly be picked over the likes of Janna, Lulu, Thresh or Karma if you ask me.

I think he's very fun but they probably should've buffed the q without nerfing the shield :<

^ Agree with all of the above. I wish they'd just made him melee too if they're not going to give him more AA range. That'd be better than having him lose out of Relic Shield/Bandit bonuses just for having like 50 more range than melee champions.

^ Indeed. My main gripe with Rakan was how squishy he is. Sometimes his attack range proves beneficial (300 is still double the range of other melee champs) and coin isn't /that/ bad on him.

I mean, it's a conflicting identity, yeah? You don't really know whether to go and engage since as soon as your ult is done in a fight you blow up (or dash out with E, but I found that sometimes I don't have the time for that). You can stick around your carry and attempt to somehow peel for them (which theoretically is possible but in practice you can't save your carry from anything even remotely sticky like zed/fizz/leblonk/ekko the way Janna/lulu/nami can).

If they make him melee and give him some more bulk through his passive I think he'll be a lot better as an "engage" type of support.

Then again, he is supposed to mirror an "assassin" in terms of kit design, so I really don't know where rito was going with him.

Exactly. His kit and his numbers are just kind all over the place. There is no consistency. They give him a poke tool with not enough range to utilize it (tbf the change they're making is a step in the right direction). They give him an engage tool without the bulk needed to be a good engager. They give him a heal but make it weak/hard to use too. They gave him high AP ratios but force you to build like a utility/tank support so you can be useful. Etc.

Actually Rakan has like 125-175 range more than melee champs, save for specific range-increasing abilities or Kled when he's dismounted.

So COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS!

But yeah he's still the lowest range ranged champion FeelsBirdMan.

Eh, so does Thresh. The problem is that his range is the lowest in the game. There's like no reason not to pump it a tiny bit or make him melee.
