So My first game with him, was last night i was 700th in the first queue, I rushed my catalyst+sorc boots.
This way my combo did hurt, I was able to clear caster minions in a few seconds, and I was tankier than most(My cs was High)
After that, I rushed a Deathcap at around 20+ Minutes, giving me a HUGE boost to my damage, my combo now easily gibbed someone if I could get my ult off.
Not wanting to die, I bought a Rylai's, I had over 2.4k Health, Each of my abilities hit for about 300+Base Damage, and my ult hit for about 450.
Ended up 10/4/9

I feel that brand does have a massive mana issue and should probably get a Archangel's Staff to help with that. IMO ap for brand isn't nearly as good as magic pen. according to lol wiki his ability power ratio is .65, .6, .55, and .5 (respectively). So on that vein i think that two most important items for him are sorcerers shoes and a void staff. Other than those two the next really important item i feel he should get is rylai's because it helps pull of your combo easier with the slow. Those are just my opinion on items for him.
Magic pen isn't good because his AP ratios are bad. That's a common misconception.

skim read what searz said, just to elborate people get M.pen to increase the base dmg stats on the skills, this is done if ap ratios are really low.

And I think what Searz means is that MPen isn't only good because of low AP ratios, that it is always good. o-o
