All you really need for damage is Triforce and Madred's.

You don't want to focus on criticals, because every time you go into Turtle stance, you can't crit. That's probably a solid 30~40% of the time.

But if you want more survival with damage.
I'd take Stark's Fervor, and maybe Wit's End. Stark gives attack speed, the only thing you really need if you want to vamp up your damage + survivability.
Attack Speed is what lets you proc turtle and phoenix effects. The life steal and health regen added in also works out nicely.

Stark's is more beneficial on a support champ. As well it's truly only worth the gold when you have another 2 auto attackers on your team. A survival Udyr (off tanky DPS) should be sporting Merc Treads/Tri Force/Banshee's Veil/Sunfire Cape/Atma's Impailer/Item of your choice. Early Game damage/health with late game survival. A Wit' s End could fit nicely into that last item slot.

Just my 2c. If a tank can give as good as he/she gets then off tank Udyr is the way to go for now. Especially in the NA meta game, we are almost obsessed with Tri Force off tanks @_@.

Agreed, those 2 items and maybe Wit's End are the only really good offensive items for Udyr.

@JEFFY40HANDS:

Tanks are essentially supportive initiators with bulk.

Stark's is preferable on an offensive champion.
And the way I see it, Stark's has always been very good value. It's cheap compared to the pricing of other aura items.

For DPS Udyr I am a fan of rushing a Trinity on him into a Warmogs/Atma's kinda deal. I feel DPS Udyr doesn't work that well unless you got the tankyness to back it up. Granted I rarely play DPS Udyr as tank is superior imo. His base damage is already pretty good. The only DPS items I get on Udyr is generally Wriggles + Wits End and Maybe a Trinity.

Wriggles, Dodge boots, SV, Wits End, Trinity / FoN, Randuins/Banshee's. Sell SV when you can get a better item. I find this is really everything he needs to get in there and F **** up haha. You can even sell Wriggles later just like SV and pick up another tanky or DPS item. Turtle should be all the life steal needed late game + it's awesome shielding.

What Searz? How much have you played Udyr bro?

Wit's End is nice but even Malady/SotD gives you more damage if your playing Phoenix. Which I haven't, for a long time. I've felt that I just like Tiger better.

The build I use is Warmog's because hands down it gives you the most surviability and damage early and mid game. I've tried Triforce, imo doesn't really give you the damage Atmog's does (def not survivability), Madred's is good on Phoenix, but on Tiger I think Wriggle's is pretty good.

I do think Triforce is good on tank Udyr, but on DPS...there are just better items.

I like SV a lot on Udyr, but I dislike dodge boots. Merc Treads or Lucidity boots are better, and dodge is just inferior to armor since it only works on aa's not abilities, while armor uses both. Main reason I use armor seals.

Even on Udyr I feel like dodge boots are situational. It's great with his passive and Nimbleness but oftentimes I'd rather stick with Merc Treads.

I agree with Jebus, but I think that Elementz was just describing a typical build that he likes, I'd assume (emphasis on assume here) that vs hard CC teams he would also go with Merc Treads or another tenacity item.

Kinda my thoughts on Udyr too.

Dodge boots

I'm not a fan of dodge overall. It's a little bad as a stat since it only applies to normal attacks. The only thing that makes it viable is the Nimbleness mastery, but even with the speed boost proccing more often I wouldn't consider Ninja Tabi on someone who get kited as easily as Udyr.
Merc all the way imo :3

imo merc treds should be taken as much as possible but on champs like udyr that have an already passive dodge it is acceptable especially if the other team has a carry in which most of the damage they do will be from basic attack i.e. trynd, caitlyn, gangplank and people just stacking massive amounts of crit pretty much.
