I think you overrate
Thornmail pretty damn hard. First, you have dodge, so it will not proc any time. Second, if the enemy has enough lifesteal,
Thornmail will do nothing.
And third, what you do against people like
Garen or
Talon?
Randuin's Omen and
Frozen Heart are in any way superior to
Thornmail. Because they also slow the attacker down.
Randuin's Omen has also nice cc and builds out of a gold/time item,
Heart of Gold.
But most time
Ninja Tabi+
Atma's Impaler is enough.
BTW: You know AP
Jax?
Think about the hp from
Rabadon's Deathcap^^.
Relentless Assault makes this item really strong^^.
Still, start with AD marks and quints, you need them for superior earlygame and last hitting.
But you have no spot for tenacity items. You need to switch
Ninja Tabi for
Mercury's Treads if you need tenacity.

Yeah i know that you can play him even more AP heavy.
But kick Malady out of the window and Rylais slow is neat but I have Stun/One-time slow thx to Hex and Exhaust.
Rabadon is indead neat, but dunno if I want that raw dmg or for example getting Lichbane first for utility (if I have enough Ap ofc).
And btw: Your argumentation about Thornmail is somewhat off since it can be used everytime on any champ who thinks about getting it...
Thornmail is cheap and fullfills what you need without wasting sth. (You dont need that Mana from Frozen Heart and Randuins is pretty much overkill, leave that for your full tank)

Well, you still need enough AS to proc your Ulti. So if you kick
Malady out, you need a replacement for it. And it should reduce the magic resist.
Ofcourse I forget
Lich Bane. I just replace it with
Abyssal Mask, because they both give mres.

Ofcourse I forget

Thats why i made my own build out of Jax Ap heavy side, you know...?
(Dunno how i add those fancy pics atm)
Ninja/ Hextech Gunblade/ Rageblade/ Abyssal Scepter/ Nashors Tooth/ *free for imagination*
I can switch or replace many things to be flexible.
For example: Armor/Tenacity is ONLY necassary if the enemy team has lots of it otherwise i can ignore it and get abyssal too boost some of my survivability while giving a big chunk of dmg.

But your build missed
Rabadon's Deathcap^^.

But
Rabadon's Deathcap,
Lich Bane,
Hextech Gunblade,
Guinsoo's Rageblade(that may can be replaced by
Nashor's Tooth) and
Ninja Tabi are core for me, because you need all of them to deal the damage. And you still need AS and magicpenetration.
Rabadon's Deathcap is not only a raw damage item, because it gives you a crazy amount of HP.

Not get through to you there, huh...?
Ofc you have a point in most of it (if not there would be no point in arguing),
Hex and Rage gives you one hell of Hp pool/Philo gives you lane sustainability and you need tenacity SOMETIMES/Atmas gives you great deal of Ad for a little price + armor/ wits end gives you the MR you CAN make us of sometimes etc.
But there are things were your arguments goes right off into the void..
Philo/Eleisa
Tenacity only against CC heavy teams. Ofc Stun for example would disable Jax completely, but who cc´s ppl if they dont kill them? You wanna waste your precious stun on some Jax whos tanky without one def item if some Mf/Ashe whatsoever is around?
Since Jax needs 0 Mana, we´re talking about suvivability as in "lifereg". I´ll use that money to complete Revolver and reg the same amount and be 2x times faster to get my Gunblade, bringng that late game champ more to the mid game.
Atmas
Just thinking about stats, I´ll gladly grab Abyssal and leave Atmas if the enemy team´s at least balanced (Yay that AD carry of theirs is gonna take YOU down first....). If they are caster heavy you can even grab Abyssal BEFORE you think about getting Rageblade. If you just hit&run using Empower/Leap/Stun and maybe Ulti 3rd hit you´ll rape them with that 70 Ap and 20 MR reduce.
And if they´re AD heavy I´ll gladly take Thornmail. If they think they can CC-kill me think again: ~2,5k life, 1/3 hits wasted, and for those who hit, they hit somebody with 150+ armor who returns 1/3 of dmg back to them.
(Not counting crit its not even worth mentioning)
Wits End
Nothing against that thing in general, I just wouldnt recommend it. You have to get it early or it would be useless. But if you get it too early your skills except ulti wouldnt benefit at all.
Like i said: Abyssal first and AS a tad later on sth else since you deal one hell of dmg in 2-3sec using every spell of yours only once.
Nashors
I´ll give you that this one takes some time to build and lacks superior defense.
BUT callng it "bad"... not rly.
You will get the highest AS you can take together with Rageblade.
You will get a good chunk of Ap, your Wits End gives you 42 dmg on hit (woohoo) and inferior AS.
You can tell me all you want but label CDR as useless... nope.
You dont need it necassarily to play Jax, but it will help you one hell of a lot.
You can chase/flee better using Leap, you can stun more often using Counter (if even one champ autohits you, you WILL procc Counter after the 1st use while its on CD. And ofc use Empower/Ulti more often.
And youll get 25%! while buying one item. For me Nashors on Jax is close to Trinity on champs who benefits from all of its stats.
Edit:
Come to think of it...
Why not try to skip getting Rageblade right after Hextech and go for Nashors instead?
More/instant AS + CDR.
You´ll lose some Hp, Ad. And Ap if we´re talking about stacked status.
Somebody knows how the mechanics behind Jax passive and Ap/Ad you gain in fight works?
