Alistar is a make or break character. You are either going to do really good in the game or really ****ty. Good alistars are crazy and bad alistars are just free kills. Its just that there are more bad alistars than good ones. Just what i think. Probably not true.

Thanks for the amazing sigs Brynolf,JEFFY40HANDS, Katoki, and myself

This.
Plus he's unreliable at times. And somewhat gold dependent.

This is far from true. Alistar is one of the most item-independent champions in the game, up there with Janna. His CC is incredible, his heal is spammable and his ult lets him tank a ton of damage. Items certainly help, but he's less gold dependent than most champions. All you need is a few basic support items and you're pretty much set. Any additional items is just icing on the cake.

Thanks to Jovy for the sig!

I understand where you're coming from, but most teams I play against that has an Alistar either dives in with nothing but a philosopher's stone, a

I find him unreliable because he has to be near the enemies at all time, which makes him a vulnerable target, and all his skills are in melee-aoe range or has to rush an enemy to use it (which you can predict).
Then again, I play in very low ELO games and I am unaware of how high ELO players play Alistar, but this is my verdict so far.
Edit: But in pure honesty, I think Alistar is one of those champions where you fail or succeed. And I do agree that he isn't that gold dependent, but I question his consistency (stun/cc) compared to other champions such as Leona. I used to play Alistar, but I find myself in games where I'm 0/3/19 or 0/7/2.

That's called a bad player. There are those for every champion.

True, but plenty of other champions are the same way. Alistar's ult allows him to take a fair amount of damage if necessary, and you can get pretty tanky with just support items and the right rune/mastery set. His need to be in the fray is pretty much the only reason that Janna is more item-independent.

You can fail or succeed with any champion. Good Alistar players can make good use of him in any game though, win or lose. It's the player that's unreliable in this case, not the champion.
Leona is a far inferior champion compared to Alistar. Her damage scaling is nonexistant and she has just as much need to enter the fray as alistar does. She's a mediocre solo top, a bad jungler and a half-decent support. The fact that Alistar provides sustain is a huge bonus. You'll also see Alistar a lot more at high elo than you will leona.
0/3/19 is a great score, I don't know why you think that's bad. 0/7/2 means you probably got ganked too much (avoidable with wards) or were too aggressive, which means you need more practice. Scores rarely have anything to do with the champion anyway, especially at low and mid elo.

I have just got into playing Alistar in classic and he is great!!! The reason I am making this thread is because whenever I see another Alistar in-game it is gg for our team. Now I played Alistar as a tank/support/ganker. He was amazing!!! Why do people not play him? Did he get nerfed or something?
Alistar is a crazy support! i don't see him as a initiator myself, i much prefer him as a: Better protect my vayne! kind of char.
Also he's great for duo-queeing bot, since that a good alistar paired with a vayne is gonna be a killing spree!
Ty MM and Blood for the sigs :3 | Rammus is comming back - heard it here first!

Alistar is one of my favorite characters, but I see a lot of people misusing his abilities or just timing them really badly. My only complaint with him is that he's really bad at minion farming until pretty late in the game, so if you don't get a couple kills or assists early you can fall behind in gold.
