Wow, I can't believe how much backlash Riot got for their original offer. Still glad they upped the boost though. I'd be interested to know what their original idea was going to be, but I can wait. Hopefully they release it some time in the future.

People were under the impression that we were going to get a double IP weekend in the first place. They also constantly put off the reward for over a year and it looked like they would put it off again as Merril said there would be an announcement by the end of May.
I don't think we'll see the original idea.

All that means is they decided to release something else (the IP weekend) instead of their original idea because it wouldn't be ready in time.
It's possible that they'll scrap it completely, but I hope not. D:

When we originally talked about a Facebook reward, we’d been envisioning something big. Ultimately, that vision couldn’t work – but we still wanted to give you something cool.
Clearly a 34% IP boost and a funny GIF wasn’t cool. We’re going to up the boost to 100% for the weekend.
We’re also disappointed in our communication on this topic, and we’re going to do better in the future.
