Lately, I no longer see any Master Yi. But he is a so unqiue champ in his way which many people don't understand. Especially the bruiser way of Master Yi seems to be pretty underrated. So, what would you now build on Master Yi. I lately had sucess with no longer building Wriggle's Lantern and building philosopher's stone and Heart of Gold. This was my build:

Item Sequence

Health Potion 50
Faerie Charm 250
Boots 300
Health Potion 50
Health Potion 50
Nomad's Medallion 850
Heart of Gold 825
Phage 1100
Mercury's Treads 1100
Recurve Bow 700
Wit's End 2800
Frozen Mallet 3100
Atma's Impaler 2300
Bloodthirster 3400
Guardian Angel 3200

The Wit's End proc acts like the Wriggle's Lantern proc in the jungle, except that it isn't random and can this way be calculated. It is also a great item for survival and it procs 2 times on Double Strike. The rest of the build is aimed mostly onto tankyness because Yi has nearly enough base damage, much like Dr. Mundo or Shyvana. You still shouldn't go in first but now you don't instantly die if focused.

BTW: Yay for free Samurai Yi.

I once played against a Yi that build TF-atmas-warmogs and did pretty well. he almost carried but somehow my team won. he was the nightmare on the enemy team, so maybe it is an option?

What's wrong with going standard bruiser with Randuin's Omen/ Maw of Malmortius/ Frozen Mallet?

Fratmas isn't viable anymore, and Yi doesn't even have the health pool to use it anyway.

No point in starting Regrowth Pendant in top lane if with your squishy early game and vulnerable to ganks.

Yi is a high skillcap squishy AD champ.

If you build him tanky with a wits end(wtf, really) you're counterproductive to what your whole purpose is.

What yi does best is counter an enemy AOE ulty team, you wait for the enemy to go in, use their ulties and then you jump out from some bush and get a penta kill. If enemy team doesn't use their aoe ulties your team is gonna win the teamfight regardless.

Either run him flash-smite or cleanse-smite.

Once you go in, you rely on your lifesteal, MR and Armor to stay alive.

A possible build could be:
Wriggle's->T1boots->Zeal->merc treads(or Armor/zerker greaves)->IE->Tri-force.
This gives you some lifesteal to last through the teamfight, A lot of damage, And the slow proc from phage.

If you can't handle squishy yi as an AOE ulty counter, you shouldn't play yi at all.

@Pølse: Why not build Witts? It's a pretty good source of MR and the AS makes him scale nicely.

@The build: Atma's, meh. No phantom dancer makes me hurt a little because of how well he scales with AS+Crit. GA is fine as well.

IMO, I'd replace atmas and witts with PD's. I also play dunkmaster so, take it as you will.

It is jungling with Regrowth Pendant, not top lane. And Atma's Impaler is still the only armor item which gives AD. And crit aswell.

Another build: Mercury's Treads, Frozen Mallet, Randuin's Omen, Banshee's Veil, Bloodthirster, Phantom Dancer.

He scales waaay better with crit than AS, he gets AS from ulty, only thing he really needs is crit , crit damage and lifesteal to make him a monster.

Look you generally never get items solely for resistances besides lane phase. That's why Thornmail is a stupid item. Tanky items with other effects such as randy's and frozen heart are what are valued. People only bought atma's before the patch because it gave WAY too much AD for its price, allowing the champion to build another tanky item rather than a deepsy item.

Need armor? Get Randy's Frozen heart etc
Need AD? Get a bloodthirster or IE
