I played the tutorial thing for SimCity. I thought the game looked like it had a lot of potential. Why all the hate? Is there something I missed? :/

Also, I think the levels of immorality in this thread are astounding. You'd really throw a child off a boat for your own luggage? Wow.

From what i heard, it's because you need an online connction to play and the server are laggy as hell, which make the game unplayable. I'm not sure if those issues are solved however.
Also, EA is the publisher. Do I need to say more?

Thanks to TinyStar for making me this awesome sig

the game has 0 potential. outside of the server issue, cities are extremely small. no subways, road building is a joke. no zoning. also, the population count is fabricated in game.
expect a larger city dlc in a few months, they have larger cities in house, along with subways.
also, they lied about the game relying heavily on servers and that offline would be impossible.

Cities aren't that small, from what I've seen, and you build in regions, meaning you can make several cities and connect them up. The no subways issue seems to be interesting, I know they have bus routes, and I thought they had airports and trains. Not sure why road building is a joke, it seemed fine to me.
Zoning does exist. In the tutorial I had to clearly state: this is residential, this is commercial, this is industrial. Unless you meant something else?
Population count is always fabricated in the game? Do you really expect to see thousands upon thousands of citizens walking your streets?
Maybe they fixed server lag, or whatever, because it was smooth even here in Australia.
I dunno, I really like "city-building" games. First one was Pharaoh and I still play it from time to time. I guess SimCity could have been better by starting in an older age, like the 40's or lower, but there is scientific advancement in the game, so maybe they'll add dlc for ancient civilizations.
Can only hope :)
I also like the idea that it is multiplayer and you can interact with your friends' cities/watch natural disasters strike them.
