This is the exact same way I build him myself as well.
Maybe the reason why they play Khazix mostly on mid is becasue he is against softer targets which he can burst down easely after a cetain point.
On top, he can be quite fearsome but he has plenty of counters and he can a hard time winning trades against tanky characters.
Usualy, building
The Brutalizer early on after your Tear of the Godddsess is able to help out against early armor.
What I usualy follow is(without pots and stuff):
In this way, your tear should need like 150/50 more stacks to be upgraded, which is really easy to finish off and if you have a good game it could be ready in around ~25 mins.
After that you put
Last Whisper on top of it reaching over 300 AD and you are ready to pentakill stuff.
This is the way I go most of the time. Hope it works for you as well :)

OKAY!
So I personally have been playing a TON of
Kha'Zix, I actually started playing him top lane simply because of his bush control :3 But now I have moved onto mid as it better suits him.
Though, the biggest misconception I find is building
Bloodthirster early.
I always thought it was the best way to go until I had a bit more fo a look around..
Turns out, and from experience I second this, that building:
Tear of the Goddess ->
The Brutalizer ->
Last Whisper
is just so mush stronger.
That is, if you max your 'w' first.
Side note, don't build
Manamune until you have full stacks or it isn't worth the gold investment.

i have no idea how you guys arnt charging youre tear fast enough in games almost every game i play i get it fully charged
are you using Q and W to last hit after you get it? like every time it comes off cooldown

I'm not in the habit of spamming cooldowns because I used to play a lot of mana hungry top laners (J4, WW, Malph, etc.) so I had to learn mana management and using abilities sparingly. Probably the issue. I definitely do use
Taste Their Fear to last hit but even then I'll only get
Muramana around the 30 minute mark supposing I bought Tear it after my first recall.
Also, I find that once I have
Manamune stacking isn't as difficult, since I like to split push a lot. The problem is that I really hate upgrading Tear before it's fully stacked instead of buying my other core items because in my opinion Manamune by itself is garbage. Rushing Manamune instead of BC, LW or BT feels awful, so I'm kind of at a loss for the order in which to build my items.

Also, I find that once I have

just spam your abilities more and see if you can get blue buff, if your mid laner or jungler needs it let them but if you can get it then get it youll get more mana regen and CDR to stack your tear faster

yeah pretty much this whenever Q is off cooldown you should be using it to charge your tear because of its mana cost
