It's one giant Skill tree only consisting of passive effects and which is segmented into skills that fit to the 3 different main stats (Int,Str,Agi) or a combination of them. The Skill gems you pick decide what skills you can use, therefore you need to find, transmute gear to have the appropriate amount of colored sockets.
