Commons are generally not worth crafting. Save your dust for Legendaries instead.
Lightspawns are not that good. They're unreliable, volatile. Chillwind Yetis are better 90% of the time and they're free.
And if you're having trouble with rushdown then I suggest just running taunt. Two Senjin Shieldmastas should do the job if you lack other cards, they're great.

Lightspawns work so ridiculously well with priest decks though D:
I've had so many victories where people just ignored my light spawn and 2x power word shield + Divine bless easily gives me a 14/14 minion or stronger. Silence sucks but I've found out that lightspawns end up being more successful than useless most of the time.
Also, I do already run 2x Taz's in every deck I have :3

As Searz pointed out, they're unreliable and very easy to dispatch of. Any kind of hard removal can take down the 14/14 Lightspawn you've worked so hard to get. And as you pointed out, Silence makes them completely useless. Also, they don't benefit from any kind of attack buffs so they can be tough to work with.

I got to rank 13 running a Lightspawn Priest deck a while ago lol :3. Lightspawn survives a turn -> powerword shield -> divine blessing -> divine blessing -> 32 attack to the face, win.
Best arena class is Mage. Worst is quite possible Priest. Lightspawn decks are very unreliable but fun. Try running the 1/7 taunt minion (Mogu'shan Warden) and Inner fire (priest card that makes a minions attack become equal to its health) too. Pretty fun stuff.
