I think whether something is rude or not depends on individual opinion.
Like I can put up with a lot before i define someone as being rude, and so therefore I'm probably pretty rude myself.
And I can tell from reading this thread y'all a bunch of squares.

Basically MOBAFire.

Yeah, people have a different threshold with those kind of things. Why risk it though? How difficult is it to just not say it. How much could you enjoy saying it, really.

Quoted:

You were just about the only person using the /all chat in the inhouse for taunting comments, and I thought it was really BM. I can say for sure that everyone is annoyed when you or anyone else send a taunting message in /all chat in both inhouses and regular games.

Really? Because most people feel like "yeah, I know, you don't have to rub it in".
In inhouses I do it more than in regular games because I feel the environment is more friendly so I can tease a bit more. Even then I didn't feel like I taunted all that much :/

I guess that if I get challenged, I am more motivated to beat that guy then when I am not. It makes me more focussed, but I guess for some it might have the opposite effect.

It just makes me angry and/or upset extremely quickly. Example: failed an Ezreal E over the dragon wall in this week's inhouse because I was waiting for mana. Cue immediate "LOL" from enemy team members and much discussion of how ******ed it was from my team followed by it being brought up again after the game. Cue immediate desire to murder people/never play again. I know others are bothered by it too, people just don't want to say anything because as Maw said that makes you "salty" and opens you up to being given more ****.

Also I wouldn't say inhouses are friendly exactly, they're actually pretty hostile a lot of the time.

I hate it when the enemy team spams /l, especially if they're winning really hard. When my team is getting stomped and the enemy team says "Ez" at the Defeat screen, it just really kills the joy of playing LoL.

I don't see "nope" as rude if it happens after a great play/save/escape. I do consider "nope" rude if it's spammed in all chat after every missed grab or something. However, if I've just chased a Janna across two jungles and into her base and I die to whatever and she gets away with 5HP and says, "Not even close" or "Nope"; I think that's justified, and I'd reply with ":P".

If your teammates are calling you ****s for the calls you have made, you've probably been a **** though.

I've never been banned in-game for negative attitude, etc, but I know that about 80% of people deserving a ban actually don't get punished at all (someone at Riot said this).

But I've been banned on MOBAFire for being rude when I didn't think I really was (I actually had a go at Mowen about it and still stand by what I said at the time) and I think MOBAfire is a bit more regulated than LoL is, just because there's actually people looking into the reports and stuff. So although other people might take what you say the wrong way, the least you can do is at least think about why you're saying something and if there's no good reason for it, then I think you shouldn't need to say it.

I can take a lot in before I actually get insulted and it affects my play, but I'm still aware of the nudging feeling when someone says something I perceive as intently negative, which is why I just mute these days. And I honestly found that just using pings is more than enough for most of what I want to say. The only times I type in chat is to apologise for misplay, actually.

But I consider rude to be the intent of what someone says. If someone doesn't intend to be rude but still offends someone, then they're insensitive at most and not necessarily rude. If they intend to be rude, then regardless of whether someone is offended or not, then they're being rude. It's like the difference between a racist joke and racism. The former is intended purely playing on stereotypes for humour and not to be taken as fact nor to offence, whereas the latter is unfairly treating someone because of their race.

Wow that's alot of responses. To the people who said that I was wasting time where I could be doing other things when I taunted, I was always safe from the enemy team and so were my teammates I always take care now if I try to chat. I've had bad experiences with chatting and then getting pwned when I wasn't looking before. In the game I described I finished 4/1/14 with exactly 50% kill participation (a bit below average for my won games actually, normally its about 60% or higher). it's fair enough saying I shouldn't be upset that I was called something bad after BMing. In all honesty the response had never happened before today which is what prompted the thread to begin with.

At the start of the game I didn't taunt and if memory serves I said my customary start of game: "Hi I'm Crys, glhf" which is something I'm trying to say every game now because it's just nice and it makes me feel calmer, helping my laning etc (probably). I don't try to BM and I'll take the advice of some of you which is to give as good as you get and not start something that leads to being BM.

With hindsight I was BMing because i had high adrenaline. The team was winning hard and I was saving my teammates often, allowing them to make risky plays and get kills, it lead me to being a bit cocky. Thanks community I'll tone it down more now, no promises I'll completely stop though, banter is part of every game afterall.

I'm easily getting annoyed with people saying "Easy" or "Nope", but now I'm feeling like a hypocrite because I'm doing the same thing sometimes (I've never said "Easy" though). I wasn't really thinking about what the enemy team felt when I wrote "get rekt" for example, but when someone does the same to you then you know that you should stop.

But sometimes it can be seen as a joke, it depends on how sensitive the player is.

I couldn't agree more, it reminds me of when I played soccer as a little kid at the end of the game we would get in a line to give the other team a high-five as we walked by each other, but there was always that little brat who wouldn't want to give anyone a high-five if his team lost. But if they won he wanted to High-five everyone. We all knew he had a bad attitude and no-one liked playing with him, or against him.

Yeah, when I was a kid and we played soccer or another sport on gym classes and when someone won the other team got excited, screaming and kept reminding us about "how bad we played" in the showers. I just wanted to suffocate him with a towel.
