Major plot points in the manga completely changed in the anime.

For one, the Wild Hunt arc is being skipped, and...

But is there any indication that it will actually be any better? That's my point, and your original thought.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.

I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

idk might give trinity seven a check

Trinity Seven has waaaaaay too much fanservice to be taken seriously. It spends more time doing pervy-male-lead and fanservice than doing anything else. It's a dumb harem, so you shouldn't waste your time with it unless you're into dumb harems.

I think anything would be better than what the manga has... For one, the Wild Hunt arc is by far the worst part of Akame ga Kill. Removing that was a godsend for many.

We're likely to get a different story. Regardless, it'll still provide another experience than what the manga has. A new experience is generally better than a familiar one. I'm not complaining, and in fact, excited for this.

Okay then. I hope you don't get disappointed.

Any recommendations regarding fantasy/martial arts mangas?

I already read the Breaker: New Waves and Berserk.

Sooo, I've recently been reading quite a bit of Girls of the Wild's. I blazed through 100chapters in just a few days.
Not quite sure how I found it, but boy am I glad I did. I've had a ton of fun with this one.

In short, it's a shounen revolving around a boy going to an all-girls sports school with a focus on martial arts.

I initially thought that it would be a harem, but then they turned that on its head.
This series actually turns a lot of stereotypical scenes and concepts on their head. And just I love it.
I mean, christ, it even features a classic spilling-liquid-on-pants-then-uncomfortable-rubbingtime, but this one being boy-on-boy.

It's also really silly in some serious moments. Like, really silly, to the extent where it has to be done on purpose, because the author's tendency to introduce silly situations is just too much to be a coincidence.
Needless to say it results in some pretty funny moments. Ironic humor is the best.

It also has some serious tones with self-victimizing and the standard standing-up-for-yourself deal. These are a mixed bag, some parts are done well, others less so, but overall it's done decently at least.

The art is pretty great. Think Tower of God, but better.

All in all I had a ton of fun with it. I don't think everyone is gonna like it as much as I did, but I do consider it good and definitely worth a look if you're into humor, because that's probably the main reason to read it.

I read it on the official site. One thing to note is that the translations are kind of... lackluster.. There might be other translations to find, but I like to support the official source by reading it there:

"I sexually Identify as an Attack Helicopter. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of soaring over the oilfields dropping hot sticky loads on disgusting foreigners. People say to me that a person being a helicopter is Impossible and I’m ****ing ******ed but I don’t care, I’m beautiful. I’m having a plastic surgeon install rotary blades, 30 mm cannons and AMG-114 Hellfire missiles on my body. From now on I want you guys to call me “Apache” and respect my right to kill from above and kill needlessly. If you can’t accept me you’re a heliphobe and need to check your vehicle privilege. Thank you for being so understanding." - Guuse

Any recommendations regarding fantasy/martial arts mangas?

I already read the Breaker: New Waves and Berserk.

Did you read the original Breaker? (the story that New Waves picks up on)
You probably did, just checking. Also, while on that topic, New Waves has been pretty disappointing so far. I loved The Breaker, and New Waves just hasn't been as good :(

Now for series I'd recommend (in order of degree of recommendation):

Onepunch-Man: an amazing action comedy. The humor and art are what makes this truly shine. Great use of paneling and plays on stereotypes make for great humor and the art is just mindbogglingly good. This is probably the closest to Berserk I have ever seen a manga come in terms of art.

(edit:)
Shingeki no Kyojin: how could I forget SnK. It's a great fantasy shounen with a focus on story with many twisting turns and plot twists and amazing foreshadowing. This has one of the most complex and well-told storylines in any story I've ever read or seen. That is why you want to read it. The art isn't great.

Vagabond: a pretty brutal retelling of the life of a legendary swordsman in feudal Japan.
It's a bit like Berserk minus the supernatural elements. Art is pretty amazing, almost at the level of Berserk even. Overall a very good manga, well worth reading.

Feng Shen Ji: a manga about based on chinese mythology. A quite interesting one. The art is great and the protagonist is different from most; he's a clever, kind of selfish realist, which makes for some really interesting moments. The fights are a bit simplistic sometimes, but at other times quite clever. It's a mixed bag, but overall I'd call it good and well worth a read.

Girls of the Wild's: read my comment above. Good, not great, focus on humor.

Hajime no Ippo: a good boxing manga. Art isn't great, but fights are well laid out and impactful and the humor is pretty good too.

Hope these keep you busy for a while :)

I do read Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyujin. Too bad it releases chapters so slowly ;_;

I think imma give Vagabond a try, sounds to my taste.
