Agreed. A lot of anime series that deserve to be in the anime top 30 but aren't there as well. The big one is Mawaru Penguindrum. Never heard of it, but when I watched it, ******** was it fantastic.
Yeah, been meaning to watch that one.

Actually.. I don't think the anime deserves to be in a top-list.
The manga on the other hand is ****ing fantastic and definitely deserves to be in one. Which makes me sad, because MAL doesn't have it in the top-list.
The anime for Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) does a poor job of adapting the source material, most notably the story and pacing. The anime introduces a whole ****-load of plot holes, plenty of filler (some good, but mostly bad) along with a change in the chronology of the original story, which completely ****s up the pacing of the story.
The anime does improve on the art though. The art in the manga is kind of bad while it's good in the anime, but I'm the kind of person who prefers substance over flash, so I'm perfectly fine reading/watching something ugly as long as it has substance.
Liked the anime? Read the manga instead: it's better.
Ch1-46, ch47-?
Google has a job title called "Head of Black Community Engagement"..
I don't know whether to cry or laugh.. or both.

By Attack on Titan, I mean that I too think it doesn't deserve to be there. IT really is just a bunch of biased, inexperienced people just voting 10 on it because they haven't seen anything else. Seriously, it seems that Attack on Titan and SAO are both gateway anime in which both fans, who are typically newcomers, seem to feel like they've become experts on anime. People who say that AoT is the greatest anime to ever happen really hasn't seen enough.
I've been meaning to read it since my local store does sell the translation, but I really just haven;t gotten around to it. I just prefer to buy my books just for the sole reason that it just feels better to have a book in my hands, and I just feel that memory retention is better. I do read the ones I can't find in my store online though.
Art is important for me when I watch a series. The reason why I chose to reas Higurashi over watch it is because I think the characters look absolutely horrendous in it. I'm fine to watch something with average art, but if it becomes unpleasant, then I can't bring myself to.
Thank you to MissMaw for the signatures!

While I absolutely LOVED the mawaru penguindrum anime and literary cried while watching it, it's still a bit on the weird side and that might be a little off turning :P Basically, give it a chance and don't put your expectations extremely high, it's best taken when you just let everything slide and then get mesmerized by the end result. It's still good if you do expect something great though, as long as you make it through to the end

The ending broke my heart. And the plot twists man...

I'm personally actively trying to avoid physical copies of media of all forms.
Physical media is a dying medium that will be mostly gone in ~30 years or so.
Digital media just has soooo many advantages. Most notably that you can store literally hundreds of thousands(if not more) of volumes of comics/books in a single box about the size of a manga volume.
"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.
I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

Indeed, digital mediums are definitely far more efficient and convenient, but there's just something satisfying seeing you books and DVDs just lined up perfectly in a shelf. And, like I said, I just like the feel of paper in between my fingers.
It's the hipster in me.

I wouldn't put too much weight on the MAL ratings.
I've read about half the series in the top 30 and roughly half of the ones I've read do not belong in that list.
Series that have no place even near that list: Tokyo Ghoul and Skip Beat!.
Series that are good, but not great: Wata****achi no Shiawase na Jikan, Orange, Slam Dunk and Death Note.
Of course there are series that no doubt deserve to be on there too (FMA, Vagabond, Onepunch-Man and Real), but it's basically a popularity contest that indicates popularity more than it indicates quality.
