Rakan
[HOW THREATS USUALLY WORK WITH RAKAN]
Rule of thumb is that every support with tools to interrumpt your engage or your dashes will be dangerous in laning phase. At the same time, against a super engager support like hook champs, you excel at counter engaging.
Every mage support -or double mage bot lane- will try to poke out of existence, so pay attention to your positioning and buy boots first if you find it hard to dodge skillshots.
Tank supports and high mobility adcs will often try to engage your adc when you engage theirs. You can hold your E to get back to your adc and peel them, but try to focus the same enemy as them, or you won't get enough CC / damage to win the trade.
Rakan has both a very flexible playstyle and very flexible build paths, so try to realize what's hard for you to play against, and then adjust your build or playstyle to compensate that.
Did you know that Rakan is the only champion that has 3 points at 3 skills by the client classification? You can do it!
Rakan
[HOW SYNERGIES USUALLY WORK WITH RAKAN]
Rakan enjoys an adc that can scale well, alongside him. That would mean an adc that might be a bit weaker at early game, but has a great late game and can be an elite teamfighter that takes over fights. He doesn't really like champions that need a hard snowball because he is a bit weak early.
He is a jack of all trades so synergies are not the most important part, everything can work and everything can go amiss regardless of kit synergy.
For the rest of the team, high mobility champs, especially bruisers like junglers and top laners are a really good match.
Immobile mages and low threat/low action champs make it hard to find a good synergy.

Champion Build Guide
Still a healer/enchanter meta for supports, Milio, Nami, Sona, Soraka, Janna, etc. Still good to pick up tanks like Braum, Leona or recently Maokai. Rakan has it a bit hard out there, but keep it up!
Experimental Hexplate was buffed a lot, but besides that, there are only champion changes for this patch (and baron does not regen health while fighting it anymore). Beware of Varus using it (he has been nerfed/adjusted too, so it's tough to say if he is getting stronger or not). Also Sivir, since now if she takes Hexplate she will have quite the attack speed when she ults.
Morgana's W damage and Brand Q's stun duration are getting a bit of a buff for this patch. Yikes.
Zyra's E root is getting a lower cooldown, and R is getting a buff in damage. Get out of that circle.
Lulu's E shield, damage and cooldown are getting nerfed. Good.
Rell's W shield is getting nerfed.
Shaco's Q and passive are getting a bit nerfed, not much though.
Yuumi's Q and W damage is getting nerfed.
Many changes in junglers, none that matter extremely.
07/30/2025 - [25.15]
A lot of champion changes! Most of them are not too important for low elo Rakan, since most are tops and jungles, but here are a few:
Illaoi tentacle mechanics are changing a bit, so keep that in mind if there's one in the enemy team.
Nilah is getting slightly nerfed (base attack speed growth lowered)
Yunara is not getting changed, but her playstyle is becoming more clear. More details on matchup section.
Alistar and Braum's base armor are getting slightly nerfed, not much really. Healing enchanters like Milio, Nami, & Sona are still on the top of the top.
07/16/2025 - [25.14]
New adc Yunara is out! We'll have to keep an eye to check out how to play against her, but she's a traditional attack speed adc, so Frozen Heart comes to mind as priority.
Blade of the ruined king %HP damage is getting buffed so be careful against its promiment users like Yone, Yasuo, Master Yi, Irelia, and especially Warwick. Maybe consider Thornmail or Frozen Heart with higher priority, if you get a Yasuo bot and a WW jungle, brace yourself and pray for your adc.
Kraken Slayer is getting buffed too, missing health on-hit is up and price is down, so careful with Vayne and other adcs that might want to capitalize.
Phantom Dancer attack speed and movespeed are getting buffed. Keep an eye out for Xayahâ¤, Jinx, Ashe, and Vayne.
Other item changes such as Rod of Ages do not impact too much Rakan's gameplay.
As for champs, Vayne is going to be pretty strong this patch, so build against AD, attack speed and hold your CC for her ult (or run away).
Braum got hit with a nerf to his base armor. Let's hope that makes him go down faster.
Yuumi got the heal on her ult a bit nerfed, not much though so no big deal.
Ziggs got some nerfs early game, but buffs to mid/late game. Punish early if you can and don't let him get an advantage (don't die).
Kled recieved a hellton of changes, not that it matters to Rakan, especially in low elo, but if you're interested take a look at the patch notes.
Conclusion: On-hit adcs are getting indirectly buffed with the item changes, so Nami, Milio and enchanters of the like might be picked with higher priority.
06/25/2025 - [25.13]
No relevant changes for Rakan. No item or rune changes at all. Many champ changes, but none of them are adc or support. Top played support right now is Nami, so expect her to keep being there for a while.
06/11/2025 - [25.12]
25.12 changes do not have anything important for Rakan.
For supports, Neeko support has been hit with a nerf to Q damage and W passive (3 hit extra damage). A bit lucky for Rakan since it can be difficult to play against her. Bard base movement speed has been buffed, so pay attention to his roam. Also, Ahri is being nerfed a bit if you ever encounter an Ahri support.
For adcs, Samira is being buffed again, and Zeri is getting some good buffs too. Senna's soul drop rate is getting nerfed too.
05/29/2025 - [25.11]
No relevant changes for supports really. Horizon Focus was buffed again, but no support really gets it, maybe just be careful against Xerath.
Here's some adc info if you like to be extra prepared:
Ashe's Q was buffed and can now stack on towers, so you might want to stay and defend a bit against her if you can.
Lucian dash (E) cooldown was nerfed, increasing the it's early cooldown from 16 to 18, so maybe you can punish that a bit (remember that his dash cooldown still gets shortened by casting his other abilities).
Sivir ricocheting ability (W) was slightly buffed on early levels, increasing %AD ratio in the first 4 points. Expect a bit more in her early damage.
Samira's Q lifesteal increased from 66% to 80% and R lifesteal effectivness went up from 50% to 80%, careful with those ults.
Smolder base stats were slightly nerfed (lvl 1 armor and lvl 1 health regen).
05/14/2025 - [25.10]
25.10 doesn't have much for Rakan, unless you're playing AP Rakan, or with an APC, since most AP items have been buffed. Lulu has been nerfed for the last 3 patches, so you can play a little less safe against her, especially in low elo.
The only other relevant note is that the buff to the Unflinching rune that happened in 25.09 has benefited Braum and Leona a bit, so you might have a harder time against them.
If you just started getting into Rakan, I'd recommend giving the guide a quick glance and trying the builds yourself. Rakan is very flexible after his 1st item, so experiment a bit on swiftplay or normal draft to get the hang of it.
This guide will always be updated, so if you just want to check the best full build for the patch and leave, feel free to do so.
If you want to understand matchups, when to build each item, and what their syenrgies are with Rakan's kit, check out the notes, I've put them everywhere.
I like guides that are deep but to the point, so I will try to convey that here.
Extremely high mobility (can escape, engage, set up plays, roam)
Amazing engage potential (best in all game maybe?)
Great AP scaling (although not always useful)
Cons:
Can make a huge impact, but can't solo carry (relies on team following up)
Really high cooldowns (needs a lot of ability haste)
Needs some knowledge to build efficiently
Rakan wants to fight as much as possible, so you want to have flash as much as possible, catch people off-guard, engage hard and win fights win fights win fights. Alone he can't do much, and if he can't fight he cannot thrive. Rakan wants to look for opportunities and GO IN, no hesitation. That's a skill so if you're starting, it's trial and error.
=========
Early levels are really matchup dependant, you either can go all in lvl 2 & 3, or you can't and you focus on hitting Q's, peeling and being a threat by holding W to disengage.
When you get to the lane, gain bush control because you are a bit weak early and KEEP COUNT of the minions, learn what minion gives lvl 2 and look for an early engage if possible. You can do it with W & E, or Q & W, so long as you hit your abilities.
If you managed to win a trade and crash the wave, go ward river or enemy jungle. If things go south you can escape with W. If you didn't, keep playing chill and safe until you see opportunities to trade with W, AA, Q, E. To do that, press the enemy botlane from the bushes, position yourself to be a threat and punish adc last hitting or wasting abilities. You can always W or E back to safety if you don't get the trade.
Get lens after first base to pressure bushes and clear river vision.
Post 6 Rakan is a massive COUNTER-engager. You can engage if you have flash, if the enemy botlane makes a mistake, or if they dont have mobility. But if not, your R + W can be easy to run away from or dodge, so think more of SECONDARY engage in ganks & teamfights, and primary engage on favorable botlane skirmishes.
From lvl 6 onwards (maybe even lvl 5), you need to decide if you can roam or not. If your adc is safe, you can; go and create an opportunity in mid, rotate to help jungler with Grubs, ward deep in enemy jungle, etc. Thats IF your adc is safe or fed, or you just got a kill and they can farm safely, or if the enemy botlane isn't a big threat, or the jungler is dead/elsewhere. Creating opportunities by roaming can absolutely WIN games, but poorly managing your own lane state can lose games. Think about winning conditions and about what you want in any given match. For example, if mid has prio you can even roam top without being seen and get a nice advantage.
If not, then focus on warding entry points, help with dragons, disengage enemy ganks, keep your adc alive and set up ganks when you see your jungler or midlaner coming. Do NOT asume they are ganking you, politely ping them to show that you're in a good position to set a play. If you end up getting a nice advantage, you can switch to roaming more and warding enemy jungle. Try to track enemy jungler to
After that, it's all about teamfights. Rakan is a DISRUPTER. He thrives in chaos. Hecan charm 3+ people and knock them up, completely changing the outcome of a teamfight. BUT he usually needs a primary hard engager, usually the jungler, that he can follow-up to and win the fights.
If you are worse, you can absolutely hold your abilities to disengage or counter engage the enemy and you will be much better. Look for win conditions!
1. Extra range on E with Xayah + you can join each others recall to get back to base faster.
Best way to take advantage of this passive in laning phase is to start recalling in a bush or safe place at the same time that Xayah has almost finished farming the wave that's about to crash into enemy tower. That way she can just walk up to you and instantly get back to base while not losing any farm. Keep in mind that this might take a bit of practice with the timings.
For the extra E range, you can engage from unexpected places in teamfights or from a distant bush in laning phase, which can take the enemy by surprise.
2. Second passive is a shield that activates automatically on himself every 40 to 14.5 seconds depending on his level. Attacks and abilities against champions reduce that cooldown by 1 second.
Best way to use this is by keeping an eye on the cooldown and engaging when you're about to proc the shield. This passive has a noticable sound effect 2 seconds before the shield is granted, so you can use that as your cue to get aggresive.
Gleaming Quill (Q): A skillshot in which you throw a feather that does a little bit of damage, and if it hits an enemy champ or epic monster (drakes, baron, herald and grubs), it restores some health to you and allies near you after 3 seconds or when you touch them.
Cons of Q:
1. it is blocked by minions, shaco traps, heimer towes, etc.
2. if you don't have an ally near you, you have to wait 3 whole seconds before getting the heal, so it's not too useful in 1v1 situations
3. it's a skillshot, so you might just miss it
Pros of Q:
1. it's has amazing peel potential in laning phase, where it's heal is more impactful
2. when used properly, it can save teammates on the brink of dead.
For example: you can shield (E) an ally that's about to get killed, knock-up (W) the enemy to allow your teammate to get some distance, hit them with the Q, and then come back to your ally with your second E to heal them (and yourself) and bodyblock skillshots if needed.
3. low mana cost (45) at every level.
Grand Entrance (W):
E:
R:
W + AA + Q + AA + E away
(you can also start with an extra AA if you are inside a bush)
Ultimate combo when close to enemy:
R inside a bush + Flash into enemy + AA + W + AA + Q + AA + E away
Ultimate combo when far from enemy:
R + E the closest ally to your objective + Flash if needed + W + AA + Q + AA + E away to heal you and your teammate.
To ensure the longest CC chain, you'll want to engage with R or W, and wait until one CC is almost finished before using the other one. (Will attach video)
Getting a cheeky heal under tower:
- sorted the synergies and threats in alphabetical order
- added Yunara as syenrgy and threat
July 2025 & before:
- mainly just working on the threats a& synergies until every champion is in there. also adapting build and updating the Relevant Patch Changes section every day a patch comes out!
