Introduction; How do I Akali right bro?
PROS
+ Easy to learn
+ High Damage
+ High Mobility
+ Snowballs hard
CONS
- susceptible to falling behind
- hard to catch up when behind
- Problematic when comes to composition
- lack of teamwork potential besides Twilight Shroud
These runes have been argued around but from being in over 300 games with Akali i'd say forget about placing AD Quints because some "High ELO" player said its good for survivability. Don't make me laugh... the AD side of Akali's passive Twin Disciplines is very small and hardly noticeable unless in a grouped up team fight.
These runes will let you do MORE damage, because more damage is goooooood.
If your looking for an explanation then here it is; Using the AP marks and quints will boost your AP up to a level where a Mark of the Assassin and a Crescent Slash will chunk them by 1/4 of there health. the glyphs and seals are standard for many champions
Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Runes
Itemisation on Akali in the early game depends on 1 factor. "Who are you against?"
You might be asking yourself why I've asked you that but trust me, This will safe you a whole lot of worry
I have said in the guide you need 5x Health Potion and a Cloth Armor but why did I say this? Well this one is for if you are laning against an AD champion like Lee Sin or more commonly now Zed. Cloth Armor will help you against these champions poke and with the 5x Health Potion You can sustain yourself more (like I said earlier your Twin Disciplines AD passive isn't noticeable). But if your against an AP like Lissandra or Ahri then of course Cloth Armor isn't going to help what-so-ever. If your against these champions you have two choices, either Boots and 4x Health Potion or a Null-Magic Mantle and 2x Health Potion. I myself like to roll with the Boots and 4x Health Potion approach but if your getting out-laned hard then take the Null-Magic Mantle. Your first main item is a Sheen going into a Lich Bane But wait, Akali has no mana, Umm... Well that's a good debate but have you noticed what Lich Bane dones? the 50 damage + 75% of your AP, this is added to your MotA. EDIT: I've changed the Hextech Revolver on the cheat sheet to Hextech Gunblade, Why build it? pretty standard reason, the activation will make you do more damage and of course DE HEALS! Rabidon's Deathcap is a smart buy next as well, Moar AP is yummy. I believe you should get your boots now as maybe you've been running around slow as hell but that's your choice. A Zonaya's hourglass would be perfect because you WILL be focused and FINALLYYYYY, a Guardian Angel will round out your build.
