What's so cool about Banana Fear Soraka?

REAL
RAKA

You should play Banana Fear Soraka when:
:: Your team has at least 3 AP champs
:: You have an AP laning partner (like AP
Master Yi)
:: You have an AP carry who you know will get hyperfed with your help
You should not play Banana Fear Soraka when:
:: Your team has only 1 AP champ
:: You have an AD laning partner

As Banana Fear Soraka, you have a number of tools at your disposal for ensuring your survivability and your team's success.
Consecration: Your passive. This gives nearby allies some bonus MR. Not the best passive, but it's okay.
Starcall: This is one of your main skills. Spam it in between basic attacks. Try to hit enemy champs with this as much as possible.
Astral Blessing: Press W to dispense healing.
Infuse: This is a great tool for keeping your mages in lane. It's also useful when you're fighting an enemy and you run out of mana, or for stopping an assassin like
Kassadin from finishing one of your teammates.
Wish: Press R to save your teammates from across the map. When playing against Karthus, save it until he uses his ult, then use yours to ruin his day.
Your main focus with your pregame setup is to make sure that you can keep doing your job well. This means that you want things like mana, cooldown reduction, and some defense.
Teleport is cool because it lets you go where you want and means you don't always have to spend 30 seconds walking back to your lane.
Exhaust is pretty awesome because it keeps enemies from running away and nerfs their damage output. With the offensive mastery, it also reduces armor and MR. This definitely helps you.
Flash gets you out of ganks or helps you land that last banana on fleeing enemies. BANANA FEAR!!!
Ionian Boots of Lucidity: These boots are great. They help you reach your goal of 40% cooldown reduction so you can spam your
Starcall more often. You might be wondering why I don't recommend
Sorcerer's Shoes. The reason for this is that magic penetration and MR reduction don't have great synergy. Magic pen can't get an enemy's effective MR below 0, and it applies after MR reduction. Also, magic pen doesn't help your allies whereas MR reduction does. Since your goal is to get your enemies' MR down as fast as possible,
Ionian Boots of Lucidity are a better choice.
Malady: This very underrated item is a key part of your build. Not only does it give you attack speed and bonus magic damage on your basic attacks, it makes your bananas shred MR.
Abyssal Mask: This thing lets you reduce your enemies' MR by 20 just by standing near them! The AP and MR also helps.
Runic Bulwark: As a squishy support champ, you need to keep yourself and your teammates alive. This item helps you do both with health, armor, and magic resist.

Core Items

In addition to your core build, slow effects and cooldown reduction will help you a lot. Below are the best options for Banana Fear Soraka.
Frozen Mallet: This item is best for single target slowing. The slow effect is quite strong, and the item gives you more health than its AP counterpart.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This item is best for team fights. It affects more people at once when you use your
Starcall, but the slow isn't as strong as the one on Frozen Mallet and it doesn't hold enemies in place quite as effectively. Also keep in mind that the range of
Starcall is slightly less than Soraka's basic attack range. The extra AP can be useful, however.
Athene's Unholy Grail: This item helps your mana regen and gives you more AP and MR.
Frozen Heart: Take this item when you need lots more mana or armor to survive against AD champs.
Morellonomicon: This helps your AP and mana regen. It also makes it more difficult for enemies to heal when they have low health, resulting in easier kills.
Nashor's Tooth: This item gives you even more attack speed and ability power. It is best to take this in games when enemies don't seem to be focusing on you, since that means you'll be able to use the attack speed to its full potential.
Slow Effects

Cooldown Reduction

The most important thing to remember when playing Banana Fear Soraka is that she is incredibly squishy, even with defensive items. To avoid being hunted down, you have to intimidate your enemies so that they don't want to go near you.
In the early game, you can help establish lane dominance by striking from the bushes with basic attacks and
Starcall. Spam your Q whenever your enemies get too close. This will force them to back off. In addition, they will be frustrated because they are getting zoned by a Soraka, and this will throw off their game because they are being harrassed by a support character.
If possible, try typing "RAKA RAKA RAKA RAKA" in all chat after bringing down enemies. This lets your enemies know that you are one crazy Soraka and that you are not to be underestimated.
Throughout the game, drop hints in the all chat as to what you are doing. Things like "Hey, where did your MR go?" and "Why are you dying so easily to our mages? Don't you have magic resist?" will infuriate your opponents since there is no real counter to your strategy. In fact, the only way for a champion to face your team and not have their magic resist drop to nearly zero is to build so much of it that it starts cutting into their core build. If they focus you, your carries kill them and you win. If they don't focus you, you nerf their MR to 0. Then your AP carries kill them and you win.

I was inspired to play
Soraka by this video, which taught me that just because a champion is good at supporting doesn't mean they can't take on an offensive role.
