Introduction

Ryze is a hero that cost 450 IP and is one of the best mid laners in the game. Ryze is a very bursty and tanky champion. If used at full potential he is very rewarding.

Runes

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration- These are used to break through the enemies magic resist and are really the only marks i ever consider using on Ryze.

Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration- These runes are good for laning becasue ryze has mana and without a blue buff mana becomes hard to find. You could switch these out with Greater Seals of Health if you know you will have blue for the majority of the game.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist- I suggest running these runes at all times since you will be laning mid and you need the early magic resist to survive.

Greater Quintessence of Swiftness- These runes make you move quick enough to chase down and bind enemies. You can switch these with AP Quints if you feel like you need more burst that match.

Masteries

Any master page works for Ryze but the one I suggest is 9-0-21 (shown above) because the 21 points into offense dont help Ryze because of his natural burst. You could run 21 into defense or 9 into defense as well. The other 3 items can be interchanged with a Guardian Angel or Haunting Guiese depending on the situations.

Items

The item build I provided is the only build I could find viable this early on in season 3. You could start with boots if your facing a tougher lane early game. Always start Tear of the Goddess and go Rod of Ages right after that. You can either go Seraph's Embrace or Manamana but I prefer the Murmana because when toggled on your single target spells (Q/W) do double the damage but cost more mana.

Skill Sequence

Max Q first because it offers the most damage out of all the spells and wins you lane most of the time. Max W second due to the fact its you bind and you need it off cooldown in the team fights. Max E last because you only use this spell while you ult is on or theres more than 1 last in lane. Of course take your ultimate (R) whenever available.

Team Work

Once late game comes around Team Work is essential to play Ryze. You must let your team know that you will be binding the ADC and wasting all of your abilities on killing him.

Unique Skills

The only thing you must know about Ryze is to get blue buff and spam your spells to receive 750 charges onto your Tear of the Goddess.

Farming

In lane while farming (creeping) you have to use your abilities to get last hits. When you purchase Tear of the Goddess spamming spells is a MUST. Farming isnt very hard if you can time your abilities right. Also you should be getting a blue buff to max Tear (get more mana).

Counters

Counters to Ryze
Cassiopia- because her peak is her early game which hurts Ryze the most. This is Ryze's hardest counter.
Anivia- When Ryze binds Anivia she can easily counter it by throwing a stun and following up with an E.
Orianna- She out ranges Ryze with her abilities and can easily kite him around with her W slow.

Ryze Counters
Fizz- If you play ryze really aggresive against Fizz its an easy win because Fizz is known for dodging skill shots but ryze has all lock on spells.
Evelynn- Early game you can out sustain an Eve with ease. Once you reach late game you can bind her and she has no purpose of even being there.
Katarina- This is a good counter because when she goes for a last hit you can simply Q her over and over again. When she ults at level 6 you should be able to Q-R-W-E-Q and she'll be dead right after that.
