Introduction

Before starting I would just like to say that this is my very first Guide so it's obviously not going to be perfect, if you have any constructive criticism or help tell me in the comments please :).

Started playing Caitlyn some time ago and really enjoyed her, so I went to check out some guides. There were a few things like items, etc which I didn't like in a few guides so I thought I'd try and make my own guide and see how people like it.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
    Long range.
That long range allows you to easily harass and push.
    Easy pushing with her Q.
    Easy to last hit with.
Good passive, for harassing and farming.
    Great damage.
    Nice escape mechanism/slow.
Massive range on her Ulti, can finish off low health Enemies over great distance.

Cons:
    A bit squishy.
    Low Mana-Pool.
High cost on Abilities early game.
    Traps are visible.
Ultimate can be blocked by an Enemy champion running into it.

Summoner Spells

Even though I use Flash and Ignite on pretty much every Champion I play, I've seen people recommend Exhaust so I picked that here.

Flash

Flash is pretty obvious, great Escape and Chase mechanism.

Exhaust

Exhaust is great if you play against someone whos way faster than you or deals very high DPS. Either use it to kill them, or to escape.

Optional

As I said in the beginning of this Chapter I play Ignite on pretty much every Champion. Especially in early games, it has gotten me loads of kills.

Runes

Depending on what kind of teams you are facing, you might wanna swap Greater Seal of Attack Speed with Greater Seal of Armor.

Skills

  • Get Yordle Snap Trap (W) first, to setup a few traps and maybe protect you from an early gank. Do not level up this ability until you maxed everything else, the other Skills are more important.
  • After that pick Piltover Peacemaker (Q) and max it first.
  • Then max 90 Caliber Net, as I mentioned it's a great escape mechanism which might save you from a gank etc.
  • At level 6, 11, 16 level Ace in the Hole.

    Her Abilities

Caitlyn's passive is amazing for harrassing and farming. Standing in a bush will count as 2 Shots, so try to get as many shots from bushes as possible. Shouldn't be too hard with Caitlyn's great range.

One bad thing, I guess, about her passive is that Enemies can see when you reach your 7th stack. Use this to your advantage to scare them away and push further.

Piltover Peacemaker

  • Harassing at great distance.
  • Great for pushing and Farming.
  • High Damage.

This might not always hit, especially if you play against someone like Vayne who can just keep dodging, but once you hit you'll inflict lots of damage. Also, do not spam this spell. Since Caitlyn already has a low Mana Pool and Piltover Peacemaker has a high Manacost it will drain your mana immensively.
Since the damage is decreased by 15% everytime it hits someone, try to avoid as many targets as possible when harassing a Enemy champion.

    Yordle Snap Trap

If placed well, this trap will help you alot. The bad thing about Yordle Snap Trap is that it's visible so your best bet would be to place it in bushes, mainly to avoid ganks, or stop enemies trying to escape. It's great early game but won't help alot endgame other than the 1.5 second Stun. While someone's stunned use this Opportunity to harass them with Piltover Peacemaker. If possible try to time it with your passive to inflict max damage.

    90 Caliber Net

I use 90 Caliber Net mostly to escape and simultaneously slow my opponent.
You can also use this to your advantage to get a kill, and if there's a second Champion near you try to slow him aswell.
You can also use this to jump over Walls, for example when you're trying to get dragon, stand near the stone wall to quickly escape in case of getting surprised, and it will save you Flash too.

    Ace in the Hole

Ace in the Hole is amazing to finish off enemy Champions trying to run away because of its huge range, even though there's still a few negative points about it:
    • The 2 Second charge makes you unable to move which makes you vulnerable, try to cast this from a safe distance.
    • Check if there's any other Enemy Champions around, someone other than your primary target could jump in the way to save him.
    • Only use this for Kills, don't use it for harassing etc.

Items

Starting Items

I like to start out with Doran's Blade since it's great for early game, the extra Health, Lifesteal and Damage give you a good advantage.

After having enough gold recall back and get Boots and another Doran's Blade. You'll have around 9% lifesteal which is quite good early game.

Boots

Beserker's Greaves are probably the best Choice for Caitlyn since it gives you the much needed Attack Speed.

Core Build

After getting Boots go for Infinity Edge (get B. F. Sword for that).

After getting a Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge, get Bloodthirster and a second Phantom Dancer after that.

You can also swap the second Phantom Dancer for a Black Cleaver, depends on what you prefer.

Farming

Try to farm as much as possible. It definately isn't hard with Caitlyn. Farm and harass as much as possible.

Here are your main goals:
  • Last-hitting.
  • Harassing
  • Pushing the Lane.
  • Setup Yordle Snap Trap to protect yourself from ganks.

For harassing, your primary Ability is obviously Piltover Peacemaker. Try to harass as much as possible, but remember, don't spam as you'll loose your Mana really fast.

Teamfights

When in Teamfights be sure to stay in safe range, you have an incredible range (650), use this to your advantage. Wait for your tank to initiate the fight and pick off your enemies one by one.
Keep using Piltover Peacemaker to spread alot of damage but keep in mind that damage is reduced by 15% everytime someones gets hit.
Also use Yordle Snap Trap for zoning. Place them so it's hard for the enemies to escape.
