Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is my first guide that i consider "complete". If you want to know more about me and my clan, you can visit us by going to our website : http://thebrotherhoodgaming.ca
This is a tank build for Cho'Gath. This build is for Cho'Gath to appear as one of the best tank in this game. Maybe there is several way to build him, but i prefer going in like an invincible gigantic monster that make them say : "Oh no! It's Cho'Gath !".
He is my favorite tank champion in all ways. He can stun like Udyr, silence like Garen and kill like Mordekaiser.
He is just unbelievably strong.
The runes i chose are for my liking, you can change them if you feel to.
There is 3 types of runes i chose :
- Health ( Greater Mark of Vitality, Greater Quintessence of Vitality)
- Magic resist ( Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist)
- Mana regen ( Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration)
I like health because it give me damage boost with Atma's Impaler.
I like magic resist because a major part of the champion deal magic damage.
I like mana regen because it help me cast my spell to harass in the lane at the start of the game.
For the masteries, you can go 2 way.
The first way (the way i chose), is to go 9-21-0.
Magic damage and defense.
- Magic damage help me kill all the creep with my spell
- Defense is a tank needs...
Or you can go with less defense and pick up mana regen.
But with my runes, i have just enough of mana regen.
For the Items, the core items are
The boots should give you armor or magic resist like Ninja Tabi and Mercury's Treads. If you want to chase, you can pick up Boots of Swiftness. After that, its situational items.
Against Mage :
Force of Nature
Against Tank :
Against DPS :
Of course, it will often be a mix of these items. I prefer mix up Sunfire Cape with Atma's Impaler because they give me a great dmg bonus. I love Force of Nature for his magic resistance and its healt regen. And a major part of the champion deal magic damage so its really to your advantage.
For the skills, i go with Feral Scream first, followed by Rupture.
After this i put 1 point in Vorpal Spikes and boost Rupture to level 5.
Why Feral Scream first?
When you gank at the start of the game (jungle in your team or in the ennemy team), the silence is very efficient. And the stun is often miss if you dont have the skill for it. So i recommend Feral Scream.
As soon as you get Feast, kill minion with it. Get bigger and farm. If you want to kill, you will need an ally to gank. Cho'Gath is not an early killer alone. Except if you do very well against squishy DPS.
Many spells but here is my favorites and why :
- Exhaust : Really good when you want to stun him with Rupture. It's so easy to miss your spell, so when you do it, you want to get him.
- Ignite : good to finish them off if you missed your ult or on a good healt regen tank.
- Ghost : i don't use it, but if you go with Boots of Swiftness, you will surely like having this extra speed boost.
I don't use other spells, but i know Flash and Cleanse can be very good.
Pros / Cons
- One of the best tank in the alignment
- easy farming
- Ultimate does "direct" damage
- Easy target (so big)
- Allies dependant
Some might say he's hard to master, but i had a ratter easy time mastering his skill. So it's up to you.
When you farm, try using these skill in this sequence so you kill almost all of them at once :
2) Feral Scream
3) Vorpal Spikes (normal hit)
At the start of the game, don't farm too much minion with your skill. Harass the champion instead. And when you start having enough damage to kill them all at once, (something like level 6 or higher i think) then start farming and go get all the money you can get to buy your stuff.
Team work is VERY IMPORTANT when you play a tank. You want to be the target and let your carry/DPS kill. You are here to assist or finish the ennemy. Sacrifice yourself to save your carry. You need to be courageous enough but not too much to be called stupid. So it's very important to coordinate your team fight and enter at the right time. I reccoment highly to use freeware like "Skype" if you play with your friend. And hope that Riot Games may one day implement a voice chat system in this game for solo player.
Something like going first to tank the tower and let your dps finish them all is the key to victory.
To summarize this build, i would say one word : Biggest !
You want to get your stack from your ult and from Warmog's Armor to give you +1350 health bonus.
Also, if you just won a game and you restart another, just remember that you are not big anymore and you need to be patient while farming.
I really like this build because i can easily lane 1 vs 2 and get a lot of money to get Warmog's Armor faster and get your stack bonus faster.
