12. About Me: Shiningsun
Sejuani's kit revolves around engaging and disrupting the enemy team with her crowd control abilities. Her passive, "Fury of the North," allows her to apply frost to enemies, making her abilities even more potent. Her Q ability, "Arctic Assault," is a charging dash that can engage enemies or escape from dangerous situations. "Winter's Wrath," her W ability, unleashes a devastating area-of-effect damage and applies her passive frost. "Permafrost," her E ability, stuns enemies affected by her frost, making her an exceptional crowd control tank. Finally, her ultimate, "Glacial Prison," is a game-changing AoE stun that can turn the tide of battles.
In this guide, we'll dive deep into Sejuani's abilities, the optimal way to play her, runes, items, and more.
a. Fury of the North (Passive)
Fury of the North is Sejuani's passive ability. It adds bonus magic damage to her basic attacks and abilities. When Sejuani applies her passive, it coats the target in frost. After a few hits or spells, the frost detonates, dealing AoE magic damage and briefly slowing the affected enemies. This is the core mechanic that enhances all of her other abilities.
b. Arctic Assault (Q)
Arctic Assault (Q) is Sejuani's primary initiation tool. She charges forward, knocking up the first champion hit and damaging all enemies in her path. This ability is great for engaging fights, escaping sticky situations, or closing the gap between you and your enemies. It also applies frost, setting up your other abilities for crowd control.
c. Winter's Wrath (W)
Winter's Wrath (W) is Sejuani's main source of damage. It's an AoE ability that damages and applies frost to all nearby enemies. It also has a secondary activation that causes Sejuani to swing her flail, dealing bonus damage to the closest enemy. Properly using the secondary activation maximizes Sejuani's damage output, especially in prolonged fights.
d. Permafrost (E)
Permafrost (E) is Sejuani's primary crowd control ability. When activated, it consumes the frost applied by her other abilities, stunning and damaging the targeted enemy. This ability is your bread and butter for crowd control and securing kills, especially in ganks and teamfights.
e. Glacial Prison (R)
Glacial Prison (R) is Sejuani's game-changing ultimate ability. She throws her flail in a line, exploding on the first champion hit or when it reaches its maximum range. It damages and stuns all nearby enemies. Landing a good Glacial Prison can turn the tide of battles and set up your team for victory. Use it wisely, as it can be a game-defining ability.
Here's the recommended skill order for Sejuani:
Start with W - Winter's Wrath for the AoE damage and clear potential in the jungle.
Max E - Permafrost first for increased crowd control and damage.
Max W - Winter's Wrath second for increased damage output.
Put points into Q - Arctic Assault last, as it's mainly used for its utility and gap-closing potential.
Of course, always prioritize putting points into your ultimate, R - Glacial Prison, whenever available at levels 6, 11, and 16.
Primary Tree: Resolve
Keystone: Aftershock - Provides bonus resistances after immobilizing an enemy champion, increasing your durability during engages.
Font of Life: Helps your team by applying healing to allies when you immobilize an enemy with crowd control.
Conditioning: Gives bonus resistances after 10 minutes, making you tankier in the late game.
Unflinching: Grants tenacity and slow resistance when you use summoner spells like Smite or Flash.
Secondary Tree: Precision
Triumph: Restores health and grants bonus gold for takedowns, providing sustain and extra income.
Legend: Tenacity: Helps mitigate crowd control effects, making you less susceptible to being locked down.
Sunfire Aegis: This Mythic item provides bonus health, damage, and tankiness. Its Immolate passive helps with jungle clears and adds damage to your kit.
Plated Steelcaps or Mercury's Treads: Choose between these boots based on the enemy team composition. Plated Steelcaps are great against physical damage-heavy teams, while Mercury's Treads help against magic and crowd control-heavy teams.
Thornmail: This item is excellent against auto-attack reliant champions and provides grievous wounds to reduce healing on enemies.
Abyssal Mask: Boosts your magic resist and synergizes well with Sejuani's kit. The passive increases the damage enemies take when immobilized, further enhancing your crowd control.
Dead Man's Plate: Provides movement speed and additional burst damage when you engage with Arctic Assault. It also increases your overall tankiness.
Gargoyle Stoneplate: This item is a great choice for teamfights. Activate it before using your ultimate, Glacial Prison, to maximize your tankiness during the engage.
Warmog's Armor: It gives you a massive health pool and passive health regeneration, allowing you to sustain through extended fights and re-engage quickly.
Control Ward: Always carry control wards to maintain vision control around objectives and in the jungle.
During the early game, focus on clearing your jungle camps efficiently. Start with your W ability, Winter's Wrath, as it's your main damage tool for clearing. Continue to max E first for better gank potential. Look for opportunities to gank lanes, especially when your ultimate is available.
Control the Scuttle Crabs and secure objectives like Dragon and Rift Herald when possible. Sejuani excels at securing objectives due to her crowd control and burst damage. Make sure to ward the river and coordinate with your team to secure these objectives safely.
Stick with your team and be the frontline tank. Peel for your carries with your crowd control abilities and keep an eye on the map for opportunities to catch out-of-position enemies. Ward the jungle to maintain control and deny the enemy vision.
Secure Baron Nashor and Elder Dragon with your team to gain significant advantages. In late-game teamfights, a well-timed Glacial Prison can decide the outcome of the game. Use it to catch multiple enemies and create opportunities for your team to follow up with damage.
Initiate: Use Arctic Assault or Flash to engage the enemy team. Your goal is to catch as many enemies as possible in your ultimate, Glacial Prison.
Peel: Protect your carries by using Permafrost to stun divers and assassins. Use Winter's Wrath to slow down enemies and zone them away from your backline.
Disrupt: Keep using your abilities to disrupt the enemy team. Apply frost with Winter's Wrath and auto-attacks, and follow up with Permafrost stuns.
Focus: Prioritize high-priority targets with your crowd control. Lock down enemy carries to prevent them from dealing damage.
Use Stoneplate: Activate Gargoyle Stoneplate to become extremely tanky during the fight, making it difficult for enemies to kill you.
Start with a leash: Ask your teammates for a leash at your starting camp to clear it faster and take less damage.
Farm efficiently: Use your W and E abilities to clear jungle camps. Auto-attack between abilities to maximize damage.
Use Smite wisely: Save your Smite for securing objectives like Dragon or Baron, or for healing up with the Blue Smite variant.
Counter-gank: Pay attention to the map and counter-gank when you see an opportunity. Sejuani's crowd control can turn the tide of a fight.
Invade cautiously: Be careful when invading the enemy jungle, especially if you don't have vision. Sejuani is more effective in teamfights than in solo duels.
Counters:
Olaf: Olaf's immunity to crowd control makes him a difficult target for Sejuani to deal with.
Udyr: Udyr's fast clear and ability to chase down Sejuani in the jungle can be troublesome.
Graves: Graves can deal a lot of damage and kite Sejuani effectively.
Matchups:
Amumu: Sejuani and Amumu have similar playstyles, but Sejuani's crowd control can interrupt Amumu's engages.
Nunu & Willump: Both champions have strong engage tools, but Sejuani can disrupt Nunu's engages with her crowd control.
It's important to adapt your playstyle and itemization based on the specific champions you're facing.
