[EUW MASTER] VOLIBEAR TOP IN DEPTH GUIDE (25.09)

By Azzin
SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone, and welcome to my Volibear guide for patch 25.09!

My name is Enzo, but you might know me better by my online alias, Azzin.

I was a Rengar main since Season 6. Initially, I focused on playing AD/Jungle Rengar.
However, since this season, i've transitioned to playing Volibear in the top lane.
I managed to reach master 200lp on EUW (went from emerald4 to master in only one season).
You can check my opgg here
This journey is just beggining, if you want to see me go through it, you can check out my stream here : Azzinth
PROS/CONS
+Insane early game
+Insane splitpush
+Great carry potential
+One of the highest build diversity in the game
+High dopamine
Volibear has such a unique design, you can build almost whatever you want on this champ, making it easy to find a way to play it that you'll find fun.
-Tend to fall behind in very late stages of the game
-Require some knowledge to dive and snowball properly
-Can easily feel overwelmed by build diversity.
-Pretty hard to play teamfight
Just like any juggernaut, voli can struggle against multiple range team comps.
RUNES

PRESS THE ATTACK
VS

LETHAL TEMPO
Press the attack excels against more squishy targets due to the initial burst it provides. Also both Q and W grants stacks so it's really easy to proc, while also providing a bit of sustained damage for longer fights.
Lethal tempo on the other hand require some time to ramp up, but deals higher DPS when fully stacked, so the more you can AA the higher the value, that's why i only pick it against durable melees/tanks

PRECISION

Precision three is often the best in toplane for extended fights due to the length of the lane, as explaned above you either choose between Press the Attack or Lethal Tempo as your primary keystone, both synergize extremely well with volibear's kit. Keep in mind that in order to proc Lethal Tempo you need to actually be able to hit a target multiple time, so when facing kiting opponents/teams you'll often pick Press the Attack

This row is preference-based, i tend to opt for Presence of Mind, which offer a more healthier mana pool gestion.

I think Legend: Alacrity makes more sense with this particular build since it's AS based. But you could opt for Legend: Haste in games you know you won't be able to AA alot.

This one is also preference based, in theory Last Stand synergize really well with volibear's kit, but the difference between each rune is really minor, so i switch from time to time to either Cut Down against durable opponents, or even Coup de Grace against champs that tends to survive at low HP such as Warwick or Sett.

I like to take double Adaptive Force + Flat Health to maximize volibear early game's strenght and snowball out of it. I don't think it makes sense to play scaling runes on a mediocre scaling champ. I'd rather play full aggro and stomp every lane and win in 25min rather than playing for a late game where i'll be unable to carry anyway.
ITEMS
Core items
Nashor's Tooth is going to be your 1st item almost all games, it synergies perfectly with Volibear's kit, gives insane sustain DMG, exceptionnal waveclear, lot of AP for E and R. It's obviously not the most played volibear 1st item but it has always been my favourite and the one i found the most fun.
Riftmaker is going to be your standard followup, gives everything volibear needs : ability power,
omnivamp, Ability Haste, health while also boosting your sustained damage. You can switch it for Cosmic Drive in games you know fights will be very brief and you wont have the time to make use of the Riftmaker's passive.
Rabadon's Deathcap is going to be your standard 3rd item in most matches, it just significantly increase all of your damage when going for an AP build. Especially good when snowballing.

Rabadon's Deathcap gives more burst, and boost you passive damage by alot because it scales out of raw AP, main issue here is that if enemy builds Magic resistance your DPS is going to suffer from it.
Guinsoo's Rageblade on the other hand gives Attack Speed and attack damage + a great passive boosting your on-hit effects (THIS INCLUDES YOUR PASSIV). So it suffer less from enemy bying Magic resistance because it does not only rely on AP to deal damage (more mixed dmg).

Follow-up items
Shadowflame is a really good item on volibear, as it gives ton of ap, a broken passive that can help alot finishing off targets, and the passive on it also procs on your passive, making you deal crazy AOE damage.
Bloodletter's Curse is a really cool new item, especially usefull when facing very durable opponents that stacked MR to counter you, it also give health so it makes you a bit more durable, i often buy it as last slot when going for the Lethal Tempo build.
Lich Bane is the exact opposite to Bloodletter's Curse, you want to build this when going for the heavy burst Press the Attack build, it gives sheen effect, more moovespeed to reach the squishy targets and nice split power too.
