Garen's Story

Throughout Valoran, the resolve of Demacia's military is alternately celebrated or despised, but always respected. Their ''zero tolerance'' moral code is strictly upheld by civilians and soldiers alike. In combat, this means Demacian troops may not make excuses, flee, or surrender under any circumstance. These principles are espoused to their forces by unrivaled demagogues who lead by example. Garen, the valiant warrior who bears the title ''the Might of Demacia'', is the paradigm to which these leaders are compared. Thousands of great heroes have risen and fallen on the bloody battlefields between Demacia and its preeminent rival, Noxus. It was beneath their mighty banners of war that Garen first met steel with Katarina, the Sinister Blade. The infantrymen who beheld this event (and survived) commented that it seemed as though the two were locked in a mortal waltz against a symphony of clashing blades.

Garen, the pride of the Demacian military and leader of the Dauntless Vanguard, returned from this battle breathless for the first time in his career, though some speculate that this was due to reasons other than exhaustion. The plausibility of these rumors was bolstered when, in every instance thereafter, Garen seized the opportunity to encounter the Sinister Blade again. A paragon of Demacian ethic, Garen never entertained such allegations, for he knew others couldn't understand. Even simply the pursuit of a worthy opponent on the battlefield is, to a true warrior, the reason to rise each morning. The promise of one, particularly so beautifully and diametrically opposed, is the validation of his existence.

Heey there Mobafire (: This is Acoil's Garen guide, this is my first guide on Mobafire. I made a garen guide before this but. I failed a bit on that one so. I decided to make a new guide (: I hope you all like it, and please try it out.

Why build Garen as a Tank?

Well first of all, i hear alot that says Garen tank? WTF he do no dmg and have no cc so he cant help hes teammates etc. but i will say that Tank Garen is a good champion, well he cant really help your team, if the other team just focus your squishies first, but my guide show you how to play off-tank as Garen. Well i build Garen tank because he is hard to kill and can output alot of dmg, i have tryid to build Garen over 30 ways, Tank, DPS, Support etc. and this build just get me with thoose runes. I am tanky and hard to kill + i can kill and output dmg as never seen before.
First of all hes a good farmer, With the Sunfire cape and Judgment, its not just a good minion combo, but it works very well on champions too (:
You have to try this build before you can say its ****, i take the masteries as offensive cuz i can output dmg and i take fully tank items and its enough for me (: you can also see my screenshots, i dont use Garen's ultimate to KS i use it for take dmg of so my carrys can go in and take the kill easyly, many thinks they can kill tanky garen so thats why they go 1on1 cuz they dont think he dmg, look at my screenshots they tell you that you can kill whitout any problems (: i like garen this way and i hope you will enjoy garen as much as me (:

My Runes for Garen


Greater Mark of Desolation

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush
Greater Mark of Desolation Armor Pen. Works on Garen's auto attack and your Judgment also work with Armor pen.
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction Cooldown reduce works good on Garen, He uses no Mana or Energy so faster Cooldowns Faster abilities
Greater Seal of Evasion I use dodge runes for the extra survival, Dodge may save your life (:
Greater Quintessence of Health Extra Health can always be used!


My Mastery for Garen


My mastery for Garen is 21/6/3 because i build him fully tank so he needs the extra Offense to make dmg (:

Summoner Spells

I use Exhaust and Ghost on my Garen,

1. Exhaust & Ghost: Ghost gives good escape ability + Decisive Strike And Exhaust is a good use to Slow enemy’s down or take dmg off enemy’s like Tryndamere

2. Heal & Flash: Heal is good on tank, and its always good to have 1 Heal on a team, and Flash Gives good escape ability.

3. Flash & Fortify: Flash for the great escape, and Fortify that can keep your Turrent's alive but if you take this i would have the improved masteries (:

Abilities

Perseverance: (Innate): Garen will regenerate 0.5% of his maximum health per second after not receiving or dealing damage for 7 seconds. The regenerative state will stop if Garen receives damage.

Decisive Strike:(Active): Garen gains movement speed for 3 seconds. His next melee attack within 6 seconds will deal physical damage and silence his target for 2.5 seconds. (No Cost)

Courage: (Passive): Garen's armor and magic resistance are permanently increased by 0.5 every time he kills an enemy unit. (No Cost)
(Active): Garen places a defensive shield on himself, decreasing all damage taken for 3 seconds. (No Cost)

Judgment: (Active): Garen rapidly spins his sword around his body for 3 seconds, removing all existing slows and reducing the duration of new slows by 50%, plus dealing physical damage to nearby enemies every half-second. The bonus damage is further increased by Garen's critical strike chance. Damage to minions is reduced by 50%. (No Cost)

Demacian Justice: (Active): Garen brings down Demacian Justice on his opponent, dealing magic damage, plus additional physical damage per amount of health his opponent has already lost. (No Cost)

My Core Items are the items above, but ofc if the team dont have champions like, Tryndamere & Master Yi then its stupid to get Thornmail

Thoose items is a must sometimes, depends on the enemy team, ofc you should not build all 6 items, but like Quicksilver Sash is really good ainst Malzahar

The reason that i take E Judgment as my first skill, cuz its easy to get to level 2, and the Judgment gives more dmg with the Armor pen runes (:

There is sometimes i take Q Decisive Strike as my first skill but its not that much.
I wait to take my skill untill i am in my lane and i know what i need, i who i fight ainst

Ultimate Use

Never Killsteal with your Ultimate, Dont ever Killsteal from Your carry's its too stupid.
I use my ultimate when their tank is the only one left and hes low to take the extra HP, Remember your Ultimate does (Additional Damage: 1 per 3.5 / 3 / 2.5 health missing) Demacian Justice i also use my ultimate to lower the hp of a player or in teamfights so my carrys can go take the kill easyly.

Initiate a Team Fight

You should be the one Initiating because you have the most Armor and MR to do it so (:

First i activate my Decisive Strike and Click "D" to Active my Ghost then i run in and use my Exhaust on the AD carry to take some dmg off him, then i hit AP carry with the Decisive Strike, Then i use my Judgment to output some dmg, and be sure you use your Judgment hit the carry's then if some1 is low make sure they are on low health then u simple just click R use your Demacian Justice and hit them with your mouse (:

Farming

First time I go Back is to get my Boots of Swiftness, after that i go so fast as I can to get my Sunfire Aegis and get free farm, like if top enemy's minions are pushing, I clear that out to get some minion kills. But I try to farm as much as I can with my Sunfire Aegis.
