Introduction

This is my first guide, so please bear with me!

Since the new masteries came out, jungle Malphite has been my favorite build. He not only is an extremely effective tank, he also has mobility, lock-down, and spike damage. It is very easy to steamroll the enemy squishes early and mid game, and he scales well into late game with his team fight utility. He also counters basically any AD jungle.

If you are against a heavy AP team, Malphite is not ideal. He is a good counter-pick if you already know the enemy team will be at least 3/5 AD. Because of your armor stacking damage, you should be able to out damage many of the other tanks in the current meta.

For this guide, the goal is to be short, sweet, and to the point. Many great guides out there have pages of info, but the goal of this guide is to simply give you the basics so you can get in and play the game.

Runes

For runes, the only optional one is water walking. I prefer it for extra mobility, particularly early game. It helps both ganking and counter jungling and gives an advantage to river ganks against the enemy jungler. Scorch or Absolute focus can work but I find that more damage isn't what this build is lacking.

The other sorcery mastery, The Ultimate Hat, is essential. Malphite's ultimate is your mid/late game bread and butter can can win you everything from an all in team fight to a 1 v 1.

Items

There are not a lot of items in this guide, but that is because in the current setup, there is a small pool of items that work really well on Malphite.

Your core item's are Stalker's Blade - Cinderhulk, Frozen Gauntlet, and Deadman's Plate. The remaining items are situational. If AP is not a problem at all, do not hesitate to go all armor.

Skills

Q Seismic Shard - This is your chase ability and what you use when you are not using your ulti to initiate a fight. At level 3 this is your most important ganking skill. If your team is pushing to hard, you can take it at level 4 and take an extra level in E to help speed up your farm. This skill slows on hit and gives you a speed boost.

W Brutal Strikes - Not only does this increase your armor, it's active ability lets you wipe out waves of creeps, towers, and enemy players. It makes your punches hurt.

E Ground Slam - This is your main damage dealer. It is a high powered AOE slam that also slows down enemy attack speeds. It keeps your HP up in the jungle and it will make the ADC hate you, especially comboed with your ult.

R Unstoppable Force - This is a powerful ult that has a knock-up that hits in a radius around your character, can go over walls, and hits pretty hard too. This mixed with your E will hit most squishy enemies to half life or greater in under 1 second. This skill wins team fights.

Creeping / Jungling

My preferred start is Red --> raptors --> Blue (smite) --> Top gank if ready or Wolves --> Toad --> Gank or back. After the initial run, counter jungle is you are confident in your lanes applying pressure and the enemy jungler is AD. If not, focus on farm and ganking. Even if you don't get a kill, you want the enemy lanes to feel pressured. With top, just knocking down the enemy's HP can give top a big advantage.

This is of course situational. If no lane is well set up for a gank, then focus on farming. You are most effective once you hit level 6. If Top or Mid have to B and the lane is pushed, take advantage of some free farm and xp.

Team Work

Your job is initiation and lockdown. With frozen gauntlet and your E you will not only do significant damage to the ADC, but you will kill their attack speed. If there is another on the team with stronger initiation, like Oriana, wait for then, then jump in and knock up the ADC (and hopefully others) and spike them out before the fight even really starts. After that, you can run intercept on any bruisers that will be an issue towards your team's squishies. Your team fight combo is R -> E -> W -> Auto -> Q -> Auto. After that if the ADC is still up, use your skills as they refresh to be as annoying as possible and to stop them from focusing your ADC.
