Introduction
If you don't like farming all game you shouldn't play Shyvana, as it's long periods of farm with small windows of fun whenever you turn into a dragon.
Runes
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration Don't let some scrubs or her misleading Flame Breath tell you otherwise, all the damage this champ does is magic, from the items to the abilities these will help you every step of the way.
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist Your choice of scaling or flat magic resist. I prefer Scaling.
Greater Seal of Vitality Normally I would take Flat Armor, but because I start with a cloth armor and don't build any health until after my Madred's Bloodrazor is done, these have been helping out nicely.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed Swiftness for synergy with moving fast.
Start with Cloth Armor 5 pots because if you have a solo lane you will get harassed.
Your goal is to work towards your Madred's Razors, your Mercury's Treads, and your Wit's End at the same time, making sure to build based on the lane you are fighting.
Madred's Bloodrazor and Wit's End will be your bread and butter, once you have these, the gold for your Trinity Force should come pretty easily.
Items of honorable mention are Abyssal Mask and Sunfire Aegis, to increase the amount of magic damage you do.

Try to get solo top or mid, if those are unavailable you should jungle. Shyvana can take quite a bit of damage when she harasses, but you should be fine with your Cloth Armor and 5 health pots.
People might look at me funny for leveling up Flame Breath first, but your Twin Bite's improvements with level aren't really that important, they are just there to proc your On-Hits twice, including your properly leveled Flame Breath. Also, when in dragon form, your Flame Breathdoes tremendous AOE damage in burst, which is good because you won't always get to auto attack with CC's flying about and whatnot.
Maths: Both results are after using Flame Breath and Twin Bite afterwards on a champ with 2000 health. Only AP from masteries.
Twin Bite level 1 Flame Breath level 5
Flame Breath: 268.88
Wit's End: 84
Madred's Bloodrazor: 160
Fury of the Dragonborn: 80
Attack Damage: 298.8
Total: 592.88 Magic damage, 298.8 Physical damage, 891.76 total damage.
Twin Bite level 5 Flame Breath level 1
Flame Breath: 88.88
Wit's End: 84
Madred's Bloodrazor: 160
Fury of the Dragonborn: 26.66
Attack Damage: 332
Total: 359.54 Magic damage, 332 Physical damage, 691.54 total damage.
Now you know why I take Magic Pen reds.
Leveling up Flame Breath will give you the most amount of burst when you reach level 6, and decide to use your combo which is described below in "So You've Decided to Become a Dragon..."

Exhaust instead of Ignite? Until you get your Frozen Mallet, this will be your only form of CC aside from your ultimate, this also helps with those pesky knights that think they can fight a dragon.
Flash... this spell is going to be the best untill they nerf it, then Ghost might take it's spot in season 2, or Surge.... hmmmm.

You are at a point in your game where you believe it would be beneficial for your team to use Dragon's Descent, but you can't just activate it willy nilly, here's how you do it.
Activate your W before you use your R, this is important for making a flame trail on the ground when you fly, if this spell is on cool down you should wait till it is up.
Right after you leave a trail of destruction, your next skill is Flame Breath, deciding where to point it can be difficult. Usually I target a squishy carry, and try to position myself that it will hit them and some other champs too. Try not to ult if this is on cool down.
Your Q does not have to be used right away, so if it is unavailable you can still ult, and get it back though auto attacks. Odds are it will be available though if you are team-fighting, unless you decide it is a good idea to run up to your opponent in human form and bop him on the head.

Shyvana is essentially the best personification of a dragon in the League. Dragons like to sit on a giant pile of gold all day. Farm Farm Farm. Her ganks are like Warwick's pre-6, so she's more of a lane saver than a dedicated ganker if you decide to jungle. This is why I choose to lane with her, and leave the ganking to champs like Lee Sin.
