Champion Build Guide

Jayce MID [Season 2021]

By WildStylo
Pros / Cons

The Defender
Of
Tomorrow

 ✦✦✦

Positives

high burst damage
mobility
strong waveclear
destroy towers fast
Pros: Jayce is a midgame champ. Midgame is a time to mappressure (help your jungler, roam sidelanes) and securing objects. This is definitely what Jayce excels in the most. He is a also a decent splitpusher due to good waveclearing and tower destroying time (with lethality items).
~ You want to pick Jayce vs squishy teamcomps that are not tended to build lots of armor.

Negatives

squishy
no built-in sustain
manahungry
lacks of cc
Cons: Jayce's carry potential falls off in lategame. His kit is designed for short all-in/burst combo/trades/skirmishes in midgame. In late, he is too squishy/has no cc to make plays in extended 5/5 teamfights and it becomes harder to catch enemy out of position.
~ You do not want to pick Jayce vs tanky teamcomps because you can't kill them fast enough to be a viable pick against.
HOW TO PLAY JAYCE RIGHT
Jayce is a high risk / high reward champion.

Don't pick Jayce if you are going to chillout. This champ is all about lane dominance and aggro playstyle from early levels. You need to snowball yourself EVERY game to be relevant and win these games. Even Zed 0/4 has tools to engage safely enemy adc and burst him down. In comparison, Jayce 0/4 is a team-reliant sitting duck.

If you lose lane as Jayce

In some games you WILL be camped/ganked/outplayed by more experienced smurf-player, losing HP, EXP, mana or even feed. The best bet in such situations - prevent such situations. Really, don't be so greedy flashing under enemy turrets. Don't facecheck unwarded bushes. Don't HAMMER Q 1vs2 if you are not fed enough and never 1vs3 - they have enough cc to stop you.

If enemy laner constantly outpush you under turret and you have no HP/mana

Back to base. You lose your lane, but still can win another one - try to roam bot. Or gank enemy jg in his own jungle with your jg. There are also dragons on the map - always take Oracle Lens, pink ward and ping your jg if you notice that enemy jg on top. You can win games just by MAPRESSURING!

If enemy laner safely farm under turret

Clear the wave and farm enemy jungle, it's simple. At the same time you can ward area and clear enemy vision.

"BURST" build or "TANKY" build?

"BURST" if you want to deal REAL BIG DAMAGEZ IN 1 SEC so this is versus squishy team comps mostly.

"TANKY" if you are feeling that enemies tended or potentially will:
~ build some HP/resists (Zhonya/GA/Tabi is already a problem with our lethality poking power, so we need to survive and beat them in melee-form)
~ have too much cc so they can burst you down before you engage on them (we have enough power to kill any squishy enemy, but if there are also a tank with bruiser in front of us we need to help our team kill them first before there are will be an opportunity to engage these squishy targets while avoiding cc)
~ have tools to avoid your DAMAGEZ before you combo them (some champs like Fizz E, Ahri R, Akali fog etc.)
Yeah, we need to poke them before all-in, but our poke becomes strong with lethality items. If there are also another tanky opponents, lethality is wasted against them, that's why in some games we want to build more tanky sacrificing our 1vs1 power to be more relevant at all.

Is TANKY build really absorb damage?

NO. This build is only to prevent from being oneshotted and survive a bit longer in teamfights/out of position/1vs1 while making damagez.

"TANKY" build 6TH OPTIONAL ITEM

Thornmail - all things goes wrong. You can't do anything. You feed. There are fed AD that easily kill you. You have no damage. Your team lose teamfights.

Pick this and sit on top of your ADC, E their Zed (or someone) who trying to kill him. This item has a team-oriented useful passive. With Sterak's Cage and this armor you already have enough resists to live longer - maybe even their Zed (or someone) waste their ult on you - it's a real help to your team and especially adc.

Force of Nature - almost the same, but versus AP and has another passive that prevent you from being one shotted and grants MS boost to escape.

Death's Dance - no more so powerful item compared to season 10 but still viable into AD comps. Slighty increases your survivability without sacrificing DAMAGE with PURE ARMOR ITEM (Thornmail).

Ravenous Hydra - all things GO WELL and your team is ahead.

Serylda's Grudge - if both teams go even.

Chempunk Chainsword - take this versus tanky healing opponents or if nobody has but you feel it can help.
