Thank you, I already upvoted your build. You seem like you know your stuff, and didn't go like: Rylai's Crystal Scepter? gtfo noob ****** etc... I appretiate that :D

Interesting, that Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Liandry's Torment combined together boosts your damage potential pretty nicely. I'll have to try that out. Also, it works for Hextech Gunblade active too right? If it does, it would only work for the first combo really which would give double damage. Very nice. I'll have to test out Rylai's, Gunblade, and Liandry's Torment on New Kat so I can see how they fare along with other items and combinations.

P.S. Rod of Ages already ignored! Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I gave you a +rep to show my appreciation.

lol just noticed I auto put RoA there, I use it on other APs. Well Kat is my favorite AP so far, havn't played any AP lately... so just ignore that RoA.

I like to test stuff and try out builds. Since I'm an engineer(ing student xD) I always calculate stuff first, if it seems viable I try it live to see if I'm right.

Liandry's Torment based on my calcs deals 100-200 magic damage over 3 seconds, and Kat is able to keep that on without a problem, with the addition of 70AP, 200 HP and 15 MPen which should do pretty well. And comparing AP scale on skills I don't really see any item (maybe except Void Staff) that can reach the same damage potential. Oh yea and slowed targets take double damage from it... Rylai's Crystal Scepter again :D. So you can buy that Haunting Guise early and keep it, then upgrade later.

Wow dude! HAHA you seem to really know your stuff! The part about initiating with Katarina is really funny and I can see it working. I've seen people do it with Twisted Fate (Misaya High Elo TF Main), and I can actually see this working. I'm going to put a part about initiating with Kat, which can work, but only if you have Zhonya's Hourglass and a good team that responds to what you are doing, instead of you just dying in the middle for no reason.

On the part about Haunting Guise and the new item. I understand that may be a nice item in the main build to have eventually, but until the time when Seson 3 patch comes out, I won't be updating it for that. I take Haunting Guise almost all the time now, but I sell it late game as the stats are mediocre late game and don't provide as much as other items. I know what all the new items, masteries and whatnot look like so far, but I won't update as of now.

As for the part where you have to empty slots, always take Rabadon's Deathcap as you will get a massive spike in damage. But then last, you can try for any of your other choices except for Rod of Ages. That item's passive is 100% useless late game, and if you are taking it last or second to last, its wasted as you get mana from it and you also have to wait for it to charge. And if you really insist on getting Rylai's Crystal Scepter, then you get health from that, no need for RoA.

Katarina's ultimate actually scales with AD quite well along with AP. The extra AD bonus makes you ult do even more damage. Also, for the part about lifesteal being wasted, while this is partially true as Katarina is going to be jumping around fights with her spells, the lifesteal can still be used as she can auto attack after fights to heal up, or she can use it when fighting Baron late game, or she can also use the lifesteal to auto attack in between cooldowns/waiting for [{Sinister Steel]] and other spells. She also gets that very nice active on a carry she is trying to catch up to so she can delete them from the fight. The active is nice, even on New Kat.

P.S. Thank you so much for your feedback, I am glad I found another Katarina player too!

Oh yea and you will laugh your *** off but you can initiate teamfights with Katarina (especially with smart cast since it speeds up stuff by so much).

  • Harass with Bouncing Blades
  • Wait till mark nearly falls off
  • Shunpo on a squishy
  • Instantly cast sinister steel when in the middle of them
  • They will start focusing you
  • Use Zhonya's Hourglass
  • Enemy goes wtf while your team already jumped into the fight
  • Keep mouse over someone still alive
  • Zhonya falls off but noone targeting you
  • Smart cast Bouncing Blades or/and sinister steel without delay
  • Laugh like the sinister evil mad scientists while pressing Death Lotus
  • Chase down any lucky biatches that still alive with 1-20 HP

Oh yea and gratis slow for the whole time... thats how you (t)roll with Katarina

And trust me im an engineer!

Actually if you want to add extra sustain with spellvamp i recommend Will of the Ancients it gives a bit more AP, and none of Katarina's spells scale well with AD, and 40 AD aint much, also the lifesteal is wasted due to kat not using auto attacks. And if you added Rylai's Crystal Scepter you already have a global multi target slow on your skills. Oh yea and Will of the Ancients is cheaper...

I use Rylai's Crystal Scepter, Zhonya's Hourglass, Abyssal Mask for sustain, and I got 2 more empty slots. I like to use Rabadon's Deathcap, Haunting Guise, Rod of Ages, Will of the Ancients, Void Staff depending on situation.

Haunting Guise seems more useful in Season 3 due to it's building in to Liandry's Torment

Wow, I understand all your points and they seem to be pretty reasonable. I am liking the new Deathfire Grasp and the "Unique Active" which amplifies your damage after use by 20% or something like that. There aren't that many viable choices for items as Katarina right now, but I was looking through some of the new items and I will update with a huge season 3 overview once I am done and the patch officially is released. I also have to go test everything too.

I've been thinking and I feel Katarina doesn't always need Guardian Angel. I've done fine with just Abyssal Mask + Zhonya's Hourglass which really is the only defense Katarina needs most of the time. Guardian will always be a good buy regardless, but I see it is not always needed. I was trying to find the information on the new Hextech Gunblade to see if I should put it back into the main build.

I was looking online, and it showed that Kage's Lucky Pick wasn't in the recipe for Deathfire Grasp anymore, but i'm not sure if that is 100% true. I would really like to know so I will keep researching this.

I was also thinking about using Hextech Gunblade or Deathfire Grasp as final item choices. If you want some sustain, get Gunblade late game as your last or second to last item. If you want a bit more burst to assassinate carries, get DFG as your last or second to last item. I know that Deathfire Grasp was nerfed pretty hard. But it still works and that is exactly why I take it last. Just my two cents on the subject... LoL is a very interesting game, I agree.

Makes sense, but still I can't count how many times that little slow helped to get a kill. It helps a lot to keep people in range. I have both Abyssal Mask and Zhonya's Hourglass in my build, and I think im doing fine without Guardian Angel, also not fond of Deathfire Grasp, especially since the nerf. I don't think that Katarina needs that much armor/mr, and I prefer utility of Rylai's Crystal Scepter

Season 3 version of Deathfire Grasp seems more useful, but still feels like a gun with only 1 bullet. The active is nice, but 60 sec CD in a teamfight won't be much help, only 1 nice hit on the beginning and thats it. Actually it does less damage to squishies then your skills and tanks aren't your 1st priority.

It's mostly up to playstyle, but people tend to underestimate or over estimate some items. Many times becouse of "more expensive, must be better" way of thinking, not thinking out of the ordinary or simply lacking math knowledge. Also people tend to play recklessly instead of tactical. And also people play differently, that makes LoL intresting.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This item is not really good on her anymore. This item was usually taken on Old Kat because it helped people stay in for the full duration ult which was 3 seconds. Since most of your spells are aoe, you won't be getting the full slow. There isn't much of any incentive too need the slow from Rylai's anymore since New Katarina does less damage from a full duration ultimate as the damage was nerfed post-rework. This item doesn't grant the offensive property of Abyssal Mask or Rabadon's Deathcap and it also fails to match the defense and survivability from Guardian Angel or Zhonya's Hourglass. Zhonya's Hourglass just gives a lot more survivability if you remember the active and the armor helps out too. Rylai's is a waste of a slot for Kat. Zhonya's 2 second invincibility can DEFINITELY make up for the 500 health you could/would of taken. Plus it gives you 20 more AP so you spells do more damage. I'm not saying Rylai's is a bad item, just that its bad on her right now. Rylai's is overrated on New Katarina. It's even a bit overrated on the Old Katarina. You jump in, get a kill or assist and immediately start spamming Shunpo and your other spells everywhere. During this you either die to focus fire or kill everything. There's simply no point in getting an item to help you chase given her kit encourages an all-in style and incorporates a blink skill and movespeed buff to boot. You don't want to be supporting your team with low damage and a slow, you want to be killing people to carry your team. Abyssal Mask, Haunting Guise and Sorcerer's Shoes early game provides you with enough damage as you would still be a threat to the enemy team, but also provide you with enough survivability so you would still live if you were focused, which you should be since you are outputting a whole lot of damage.

Why no Rylai's Crystal Scepter? Gives HP boost for sustain, AP for well... do I need to say, and a passive that works so well with Death Lotus and basically with Katarina.
