Summoner Spells

Recommended Spells

- Exhaust: Very helpful in combat, especially against assassins who target you first. You will be able to 1v1 anybody and most likely shred them to pieces.
- Flash: A must have skill which will allow for more survivability and even to help get kills if necessary.

Alternative Spells

- Ghost: I'm not a real fan of having ghost instead of flash, and I also don't like having both ghost and flash together because having two escape skills is kind of useless when it comes to teamfights.
- Ignite: For champions who's ultimate or skills involve a lot of health regeneration ( Sion, Nasus, Swain, Tryndamere).
- Teleport: If you feel like you need a teleport on your team if there isn't one already.

Early Game (1-8) & Skill Sequence

With this build, even though Kog'Maw can be considered "squishy", the Armor, Magic Resist, and Armor Penetration runes will allow you to be very hard to kill in lane, as long as you are paired with a support like Taric or even Sion in the bottom lane (Ranked Gameplay) you are pretty much going to own the lane. Just because you have a support lane partner does no necessarily mean play super aggressive. Even if you have a bad start in your early game, as Kog'Maw you should be able to make it up in your mid game and late game. You want to focus on farming, as it will be your top priority to get a high minion score (CS).

Starting Items:

and 3 - This is pretty much what I recommend to start with in games because of the added movement speed allowing you to harass and escape if needed along with the ability to stay in lane with the 3 health potions.

[*] You want to play smart with Kog'Maw, but with Exhaust and Flash getting first blood or plenty of kills in lane shouldn't be a problem.
[*] You want to focus building up to Berserker's Greaves and getting Recurve Bow so that you'll eventually get Madred's Bloodrazor in your midgame.

Skill Sequence (1-8)

Level 1: E
Level 2: W
Level 3: Q
Level 4: W
Level 5: W
Level 6: R
Level 7: W
Level 8: Q

[*] Start out with your first skill as Void Ooze, but max out your Bio-Arcane Barrage skill as soon as possible, so put a point in your W whenever it is available. Caustic Spittle skill should be focused on maxing out next, and then [Void Ooze]] should be focused last, and then of course whenever Ultimate Living Artillery is available put a point into that.

Mid Game (9-15) & Skill Sequence

In your mid game, you want to make sure you at least rush into having Madred's Bloodrazor, as it will be your core item. My 2nd item that I like to get is Phantom Dancer because it adds more attack speed, critical strike chance, and movement speed. Your next focus after Phantom Dancer is Frozen Mallet. When combined with your attacks, it will be almost impossible for your targets to get away once they are in range.

Skill Sequence (9-15)

Level 9: W
Level 10: Q
Level 11: R
Level 12: Q
Level 13: Q
Level 14: E
Level 15: E

With your W already maxed out at level 9, your next focus is maxing out your Q.

Late Game (16-18) & Skill Sequence

This is where you'll really shine, even if you're not doing well or if you're not as fed as you should be.

Skill Sequence (16-18)

Level 16: R
Level 17: E
Level 18: E

You're pretty much going to harass the other team at such a great distance that it forces them to play very defensive or over aggressive. Your end game items are going to be Bloodthirster and I like to get Thornmail for a really heavy AD team or a Banshee's Veil for a really heavy AP team.

Combat/Team Fights

Levels 1-5: Remember, Kog'Maw is a ranged AD carry, so you will want to play pretty safe unless you have a good lane partner.

Level 6-18: Kog'Maw is is one of the best harassers in the game with amazing increased range on his Ultimate and Bio-Arcane Barrage and you should continue to aggravate your opponents. Remember when you're using your ultimate that you have to lead your target when you're chasing and when you're harassing. Always keep track of your mana because you don't want to spam your Living Artillery and not be able to use your Void Ooze, Bio-Arcane Barrage, and Caustic Spittle combo.

Skill Combo: R - E - W - Q - R + auto attacks

Once they are in range of ooze and spittle, you will pretty much have your way with them. Sometimes you wont get in range for Caustic Spittle, but you will still be able to harass with Bio-Arcane Barrage (W) and Living Artillery (R).

Summary

Kog'Maw is very, very fun to play and I'm sure with this build you'll have no trouble getting plenty of kills and carrying your team to victory!!

I hope you liked my guide :)

-Updates-

10/18/2011
[*] Changed the Armor Penetration Quintessences to Movement Speed Quintessences
Reason: I tried the movement speed quintessences and +4.5% movement speed actually makes a lot of difference when chasing down and escaping at early levels (about + ~15 movement speed, which is quite an amount).
[*] Changed starting skill sequence from Bio-Arcane Barrage to Void Ooze first
Reason: I liked starting with Void Ooze first because it will allow you to gank very early, which will help out your team, and also if you're in a bad situation early you can use your slow with Void Ooze instead of having to waste flash.
