Barrier or ghost are not needed, lux can stay outside the battle very efficiently with her long range. Flash Ignite is the perfect set-up.
As well, boots 3 potions is not a legitimate start anymore. It doesn't give you anything, because of the boots nerf. You can start with either 9 health potions and 2 wards, (or a mix of mana potions) or faerie charm, 2 wards and potions.
You want to rush athene's, and then rabadons, while building some dorans rings and sorcerer's shoes. There is no reason to build lucidity because you have cooldown reduction from athene's and blue buff. While I will not criticize the rest of your build (personally, rylai's is pree much useless for me) it may just be playstyle. However, athenes and rabadons are must haves. (athenes magic resist in lane helps as well)
On your poke build, you build lich bane way too early (does no damage) and void staff waaay too late. Seals of gold absolutely suck, because you will probably lose your lane due to not having the damage your opponent has.
Finally, mejai's is not a great first item. If you want to buy it, buy it later. Now you may ask why later, then I won't have stacks! Mejai's is a good item on lux because during the mid-late game phase, you should not be dying. However, laning phase is unpredictable, and buying mejai's will most likely lose you the game. Buying it later will allow you to get stacks safely (:
Good luck
No situational items, and Mejai's Soulstealer is only useful when you're fed. I'll also refer to what you say in the guide:
These items, in my opinion, maximize the potential damage Lux can do, without sacrificing herself in the process.
Um, not true at all. Considering you don't have any escape summoners you'll be dead. Zhonya's Hourglass isn't good in terms of "without sacrificing herself" either because when you use it to survive the enemy will be just standing over you waiting. Don't mention Guardian Angel at all because it's basically the same as Zhonya's Hourglass, and it got nerfed. It also has the same problems as Zhonya's. When it's activated the enemy will just stand above you waiting.
Regarding your item build...Where's Athene's Unholy Grail? It is the most important item for Lux along with Rabadon's Deathcap. Since you've included Clarity, I'm assuming you know about Lux's mana consumption. Just get that instead.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter just doesn't work on Lux, since for 3k gold, all you're really using is the AP. The slow's pretty useless, and the HP doesn't help you. You did specify that Lux has "no true escape mechanism."
Why you would consider Deathfire Grasp on Lux is beyond me. True, it works well for those pesky tanks, but the minimal range of the active makes it so that you have to get in AA range before your burst, rather than after or not at all. Again, due to Lux's lack of escape, getting too close to enemies is a really bad idea. For the same reason, Lich Bane is not that good on Lux either, although it is a bit safer. Just a bit.
For runes, there really isn't any point in getting Armor seals and no MR glyphs, since 99% of the time you'd be laning against an AP mid. Having that MR helps you survive a LOT better. If you really insist on the AP, try Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power. The Scaling and flat ones balance out at around level 6, which would be when you start actually using combos and such.
These are just the most obvious mistakes I've seen so far. I haven't voted yet.
