Runes
Marks
+9x Greater Seal of Armor Since you don't need much armor, it is more efficient to run your armor in Marks rather than Seals so you can run health and mana regen in seals.
Seals
+4x Greater Seal of Health
Free small amount of Flat health works nice in combination with Veteran's Scars , Greater Mark of Armor, and greater glyph of armor, and generally speaking it helps against burst which would be from AP Threat, which Health helps against early game more than just Flat Magic Resist.
+5x Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration
Sustain Shielding
Glyphs
+3x Greater Glyph of Armor
Cost effective slot for a little more armor, and is nice just to fill out glyphs
+6x Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
Free Cooldown Reduction in Combination with Greater Quintessence of Cooldown Reduction and Intelligence , and Ancient Coin gives you 20% CDR Level 1
Quints
+1x Greater Quintessence of Ability Power Cheapest Ability Power we can get in Runes.
+2x Greater Quintessence of Cooldown Reduction
Free Cooldown Reduction in Combination with Greater Quintessence of Cooldown Reduction and Intelligence , and Ancient Coin gives you 20% CDR Level 1
For the most part you get small amount of defense stats and Cooldown Reduction for Free here, since most the things you are going to buy will give you everything else you need such as Health, Ability Power, Cooldown Reduction, Armor, and Magic resist.
Reason for Picking:

Cunning
- Wanderer 5/5 - You are almost always are getting value out of this from either walking back to lane, or during fights, since you are usually only Shielding, as long as you aren't damaged or damage someone else you get the bonus movement speed, and you get no value out of the other option in Savagery
- Secret Stash 1/1 - You start either 1 - 3 Health Pots, this gives you more value out of them, and more Mana, and the other options in Runic Affinity and Assassin give you no Value.
- Meditation 5/5 - Free Mana Regen is nice since you are a Shield bot
-
Bandit
- Free Gold Income,
Greenfather's Gift
would be interesting.
- Windspeaker's Blessing - Gives you Stronger Eye of the Storm & Monsoon and gives them Flat Armor & Magic Resist.
Utility
- Unyielding - It works well in combination with stats from Locket of the Iron Solari , Siegemaster , and you shouldn't be getting hit during the Laning Phase to get Value out of Recovery
- Siegemaster - as Janna in a lot of matchups you will be sitting on towers either Bot lane or Mid Lane, Explorer isn't bad either, if the Bot / Mid isn't going to be able to push into your Team, and they don't have any threat of diving you with their Jungle / Support / Top lane champion, than you can think about taking Explorer
-
Veteran's Scars
- More Flat Health is nice for again preventing 100-0 burst through mostly AP Damage and maybe potentially Ignite from the Enemy Support, and you shouldn't be shielding yourself to get value out of
Runic Armor
- Insight - You want your Exhaust up as much as possible

Tailwind - This is actually one of your main abilities, being pretty much a Beacon for all your allies to kite towards, you should be conscious of this when positioning to where you want your carries to be able to Kite to, mainly during Laning Phase, Rotations, and Fights.
Howling Gale - You want to only use this to cancel other abilities such as Lucian Dash, Gragas Body Slam, Etc. To every use this for damage is stupid don't do that.
Zephyr - Pretty much a Passive for more movement speed to help with the positioning listed above, and later in the game the Slow gets useful, but you shouldn't try to chase down an enemy just to get this onto them.
Eye of the Storm - Janna's main ability
Laning - practice anticipating abilities and auto attacks and try to only cast shield when you see them coming.
- Try to practice casting at Max Range
- Don't waste during first Recall
- Can cast on any ally by Pressing E on their Avatar if you can't fight them / select them during a team fight.
- When sieging tower put on the champion with the most Attack speed to get full value out of the bonus Attack Damage.
Monsoon - AOE Knockback and Heal over 3 Seconds.
-Levels 6-8 if you are still laning and your ADC takes a bad trade, don't be afraid to use Monsoon
- Can be used to interrupt dash / jumps such as: Rengar's Leap, Akali's Shadow Dance, Alistar's Headbutt, etc.
- That being said it knocks back all enemies in the Healing Zone, this can end up saving enemies, so make sure during fights that you try to position not right on top of your carry and team, but ideally slightly behind them.
- Also heals minions, if sieging.
- Can Knock enemies over walls
- Try to blow this whenever you feel like it, the cooldown isn't punishing at all, and you won't feel when it works and when it doesn't without using it.
You want to try to get the most value out of Tailwind, Eye of the Storm, and [[monsoon] everything else is secondary.

Opening Minute 0:00 - 1:37
You have 2 options of what to buy at the start of a Match which are
Which do I pick?
You ideal want to run this every game, having a control ward level 1 gives you a couple of options.
Generally you want to place it where the enemy jungler is expected to path to for his first gank, its better for him to take the Control Ward vs taking your laners life. So how do you tell where the enemy jungler is going go for his first gank? Well at the end of the day you just have to think about it in game, it is to broad of a question to have a black and white answer, make a bet a place it and go back to bot lane before the minions get to lane.
If you are 100% lost here are some ok spots to put them, but while in game please think about why you are putting it there rather than just placing it.
You also have to take in consideration the lane matchups for Mid and Top lane if you plan on placing it around them, if they are easily going to get pushed in (especially Top Lane) than the Control Ward can potentially be cleared, so keep that in mind.
You should try to only buy this as a last resort, if you aren't confident in your ability to literally afk behind your carry and cast Eye of the Storm, and you are going into a heavy poke lane such as Ziggs + Zyra.
You should also be thinking long term with the Refillable Potion if you can get value out of it Mid game as well, or if you plan to resell it.
First Back
Most the time, on your First Back you will have around 600 - 1000 Gold, and generally here are your Price Point Goals
- 75g Control Ward - If the 1st Control Ward you placed at the start of the game was cleared, or you feel the need to reposition it into the bot lane.
- 125g Faerie Charm - If you only have the gold for this, it's an ok option into lanes in which you feel you could use 1 1/2 more shieleds throughout say a 5 minutes of laning.
- 350g Dark Seal - Really good stats and very cheap, and really good in combination with level 6 Ganking Junglers on your team such as ( Warwick, Vi, Nocturne, etc.
Because by the time you first back you will have the potential to get stacks off assist or kills by working with your Jungler, and if that doesn't happen having a slightly bigger shield and 100 extra mana is nice for sustained shielding through out a non-action laning phase. - 400g Ruby Crystal - Pretty much useless
- 500g Nomad's Medallion -
- 800g Sightstone - Really nice to get on your first back, not always necessary, but definitely your easiest option.
- 900g Mobility Boots - If you are looking to either run Straight to Top lane after first back for a Counter Gank, or if you have enough control of Mid and Bot side River, and would freely be able to walk Mid lane for protection, or if you don't need Sightstone, and would like to be able to respond to skirmishes happening in river faster than the enemy Support.
Laneing
all matchups give you different things to worry about, be conscious of this during the loading screen, look at your bot lane 2v2 and think about how it will go and what you need to worry about, and how your Jungler can influence it and how the enemy Jungler can influence it.
- Think about how it's going to go Level 1.
- Think about how it's going to go Level 2.
- Think about how it's going to go Level 3-6.
- Think about potential back timings
- Etc
Just think about it my dude.
When in lane your main goal is to block incoming damage with Eye of the Storm.
As it stands right now, doing anything else is a waste of your resources ( Health & Mana), getting 3 gold from Bandit every auto is whatever if it's free take it. Never try to use Howling Gale or Zephyr for poke damage in lane, most likely the enemy support has a shield or heal, and even if they don't all ADC's run Warlords anyways right now and will sustain the damage you did to them, and any mana you use for Howling Gale or Zephyr is mana wasted not being used for Eye of the Storm, and as Janna once you run out of mana you're not even a champion, and sometimes you do even less damage than a minion.
