Introduction

Welcome to my guide for the one and only Master Yi! This is my first guide on Mobafire , and i'll try to bring the best information i can :) At his core, Master Yi is a high damage AD or AP carry. This guide will focus on his AD jungling. That's right, Master Yi makes an amazing jungler. He may not be tanky or have a ton of cc, but if you learn how to play him, you can carry your team to Victory!

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Why attack speed? Master Yi's Wuju Style gives him a passive 15-30 AD and doubles the bonus when you activate the skill. If you couldn't tell, that's a ton of free AD. Also, Master Yi's passive, Double Strike makes his every 7th auto attack hit twice. The added attack speed from your runes and masteries should put you at about .91 attack speed at level 1 allowing you to get the most out of your passive and it will help later in the game which you'll see later in the guide ;)

Items

Item Sequence

Wriggle's Lantern 1800
These two items are our basic set up. From here you branch out to whatever the needs of your team dictate. Providing excellent lifesteal, attack speed, and damage, you should be able to live comfortably in the jungle and gank frequently because securing those kills is what master yi does best :D

Item Sequence

Health Potion 50
Health Potion 50
Health Potion 50
Health Potion 50
Health Potion 50
Madred's Razors 750
Boots 300
Wriggle's Lantern 1800
Berserker's Greaves 1100
Avarice Blade 800
The Brutalizer 1337
Youmuu's Ghostblade 2700
Bilgewater Cutlass 1600
Blade of the Ruined King 3200
Phantom Dancer 2800
Guardian Angel 3200
Bloodthirster 3400
This is my typical late game build. Mostly damage and a little bit of survivability. By late game, you'll probably want to sell your wriggles for a Bloodthirster for the extra attack damage and lifesteal. If you are an avid user of active items, you will be able to squeeze out the most of these items. Youmoo's giving you a massive speed and attack speed boost, combined with the active from Blade of the Ruined King, you'll be able to pin down and destroy enemy carries with impunity. Im the rare event that you die ( master yi never really dies ) Guardian Angel will demoralize your foes as they realize that the killing machine that is you is still alive and coming for them with a vengeance. Keep in mind that nothing is set in stone and you do not have to follow this item order to the letter. If you're getting cced to oblivion you might consider buying a Mercurial Scimitar or if you need more armor you might invest in Atma's Impaler

EXTREMELY IMPRTANT!
Remember to use your active items! The actives off youmoo's ghostblade and Blade of the Ruined King increase your damage output by ALOT! Together, they massively increase your movement speed while slowing down the enemy target so that you can get more auto attacks on target without having to worry about them running away. You will not have the same level of success with this build if you do not use your actives, so remember to press those number keys!

Skill Sequence

Double Strike - master yi's 7th attack will hit twice ( great for killing just about everything)

Alpha Strike - deals magic damage with a percentage chance to deal massive damage to minion and monsters, if you're lucky, you'll be able to go through the jungle EXTREMELY fast

Meditate - gains a large amount of armor and magic resist while healing health. be aware that this spell is channeled over a period of time and CAN be interrupted by crowd control effects. This spell makes you very tanky and can heal alot, but do not rely on it to save your life. Play safe out there ;)

Wuju Style - gives master yi passive bonus ad. activating the skill will double the bonus ad for a limited time but you will lose the passive effect while on cooldown.

* A note for wuju style...When you kill an enemy champion with highlander on, all of your cooldowns are reset, including the cooldown for your Wuju Style. This gives you the passive bonus with whatever remaining part of the active you still have, so if you kill an enemy, do not instantly reactivate Wuju Style as you will lose the passive bonus

Your basic skill order with master yi should be either
Highlander --> Alpha Strike --> Wuju Style --> Meditate

or...

Highlander --> Wuju Style --> Alpha Strike --> Meditate

depending on your personal preference, you may choose to max Alpha Strike first for the clearing potential and burst damage, or Wuju Style for the extra AD it gives you.

Spells

Flash! Arguably the best summoner spell out there! Even though master yi has a large amount of mobility centered around his ultimate and his [alpha strike], he doesn't have a way to follow enemies over impassable terrain. This is where flash comes in. It's an all around amazing summoner spell and there isn't any real replacement for it. On a side note, Master Yi's [alpha strike] takes about 1 second for master yi to move from his current position to the enemy's position, so if you're able to anticipate a flash or escape spell, you can cast alpha strike and Master Yi will follow them to their ending destination. This isn't a reliable strategy however, and flash should be taken.

Smite is THE jungle spell. If you don't have smite, you're not a jungler. It's as simple as that. Bursts of true damage you can use to secure buffs, steal the enemy jungler's buffs and just speed up your jungle route in general? This spell can be used to kill zyra plants or heimer turrets! This spell is irreplacable and has no equivalent as jungle master yi.

Gameplay

Gameplay with master yi ranges from very simple to extremely difficult. The only thing you really need to consider when playing master yi is your initiation. Master Yi is VERY Susceptible to Crowd Control. A single stun can outright get you killed, so it's very important to know when to go in to a team fight. Wait until the enemy champion blow their major cc or find someone isolated. Focusing down the carries is obviously what you should be doing, so alpha strike on to a squishy and cut them to pieces. in a 1v1 situation, you don't need to know much. Just turn on your ultimate and items and go to work. Not many champions can go toe to toe with a Master Yi so don't be afraid to stand your ground. Another aspect of Master Yi that you should take full advantage of is his pushing potential. His double strike and his naturally high attack damage make you one of the most powerful split pushers in the entire game. When i play Master Yi with my friends, we have a joke about a "20 point system" The way the system works is...

1 turret = 1 point

1 inhib = 2 points

1 nexus = 3 points

In total there are 20 total possible points excluding respawning inhibs. (the first inhib kill is the only one that counts)
Play some master yi games and tell me how many points you got or if this guide worked for you! Best of luck and remember to try it before you judge it :D

Team Work

When playing with a team, try to make sure you at least have a tanky top laner because master yi is SAF. ( Squishy As **** ) A malphite ult or a Vi ult provides great initiation and gives you a window to do your own thing with that officer caitlyn ;) You need quite a bit of map awareness with Master Yi when you're split pushing so make sure to keep an eye on the minimap because many players will recognize the threat you pose and will move accordingly to eliminate you.

Creeping / Jungling

Master Yi is an extremely fast jungler thanks to his Alpha Strike and his Wuju Style. He isn't extremely reliant on either of the major buffs, but red buff does help him to chase down a target. Make sure to "donate" blue buff to your mid laner because mid laners LOVE junglers who give them blue. You don't need to spam your e in the jungle as the passive bonus AD outweighs the potential benefits of the active on his Wuju Style. If you're getting ahead in the game, you might consider buying wards to place at the enemy jungler's buffs. Master Yi can steal buffs extremely fast and get out with his Highlander

Thanks for reading my guide and I hope like hell it works for you! In the event that you do manage to stomp some games...I would greatly appreciate a like :D Thanks!
