Morgana Mid (beginner-friendly)

By [deleted]
Pros VS. Cons
+ Strong damage
+ Strong CC
+ Spell counters
+ Good range
Although her kit isn't too flexible, Morgana has strong damage and good utility. She can build deadly damage against squishier champions.
Soul Siphon allows Morgana to sustain herself in lane. Her range is great for ganks and finishing off runaway enemies.
Black Shield protects herself against crowd control and magic damage. A lot of mid champions rely on certain abilities to land kills and Morgana's shield can prevent enemies from snowballing. Plus, it will be useful in team fights!
Overall, Morgana is a great choice for someone who enjoys burst damage and supportive abilities in their kit.

- Ineffective against AD
- Low mobility
- Long cooldowns
- Farming is difficult!
Morgana relies heavily on countering mages or other AP-heavy champions. If she's facing champions like Zed or Yasuo, she may forgo farming and lose lane. Morgana can also lose lane against strong mages that will out-burst her and break Black Shield easily.
Her low mobility and long cool-downs mean easy ganks if the enemy jungler or mid-laner has wisdom.
Morgana drains her mana with her deadly combo and she takes longer to build damage, even with kills. And if you miss Dark Binding, you will lose the kill.

Despite her good qualities, the more unattractive details combined might inhibit her quite a bit. But you can help it! It's important to utilize your build and your runes with Morgana.
Ability Order and Strengths
Soul Siphon Morgana drains spirit from her enemies, healing as she deals damage to champions, large minions, and medium and larger jungler monsters.
Soul Siphon is great because it aids Morgana with natural sustain during the laning phase and team fights. If you land her Q+W combo (champions or epic jungle monsters], you could regenerate enough health for another engage.

Dark Binding Morgana binds an enemy in place with dark magic, forcing them to feel the pain they've caused and dealing magic damage.
Only prioritize Dark Binding if you're anticipating more engages and ganks from the enemy team. You could also maximize this ability if you're supporting other teammates by roaming and assisting with objectives. This may not be necessary if your team has plenty of crowd control already!

Tormented Shadow Morgana casts a cursed shadow on an area, damaging enemies who dare stand in her dark circle. They receive magic damage over time, which increases the lower health they are.
Absolutely prioritize Tormented Shadow for farming and damage! Utilizing this ability is important: it will assist with objectives, farming, and securing kills. Don't forget that Morgana's passive relies on her damage dealt, too.

Black Shield Morgana anoints an ally with a protective barrier of starfire, which absorbs magical damage and disabling effects until it is broken.
You could slightly prioritize Black Shield if there's a lot of enemy magic damage (so the shield doesn't break after one stun or attack), but you should be focusing on dealing damage more often than not.

Your playing style and the game's situational circumstances will ultimately define how you upgrade your abilities. Morgana is annoying because of Dark Binding and Black Shield, but trigger them wisely! Good enemies can and will take advantage of the long cool-downs.
Summoner Spells

FLASH: Flash is a MUST-HAVE, no exceptions! Morgana has low mobility and if Black Shield is down, Flash becomes her only tool when escaping ganks or other deadly attacks.
IGNITE: Morgana cannot land solo kills without her deadly combo. Ignite ensures the kill and allows her to out-burst the enemy!
EXHAUST: If Morgana's enemy out-bursts her, this is when Exhaust enters. It will limit her absorbed damage as she triggers her deadly combo. It's also good for under-turret ganks and team fights.
TELEPORT: Morgana has low mobility and she's a mana-drainer (boo!). Teleport allows her to leave lane, regenerate at base, then return quickly. It's great for farming and maintaining positions for objectives! Alternatively, you could build Archangel's Staff.
Builds (Standard VS. Situational)
These are the standard starting items for most mid-lane mages.

Morgana's mana will improve greatly with Tear of the Goddess alone, so you don't need to complete building Archangel's Staff before mid-game unless necessary.
HOWEVER! You will be trading early damage in exchange for more mana, so do not challenge enemies before level six.

Liandry's Anguish

Zhonya's Hourglass

Phantom Dancer
The following three items are part of Morgana's core build.

Liandry's Torment will build great damage with Tormented Shadow. With each second the enemy spends in Morgana's dark circle, the damage will trigger per second and burn for the target's maximum health. It's great burst against squishies and a good poke against tankier champions. You will also need the item's ability haste.
Morgana could potentially build Liandry's Torment with Rylai's Crystal Scepter and Morellonomicon for maximum damage against tanks, too.

Demonic Embrace stacks the damage dealt towards enemies, too, shaking hands with Liandry's Torment. It boosts Morgana's overal l health as well!
However, this item may be situational and should not be built with Rylai's Crystal Scepter because you'd be losing too much potential damage (so pick and choose).

If you're feeling adventurous, Morgana could utilize different items for unique strategies!
Lich Bane was experimental because, for a while, I enjoyed poking enemies with my auto-attacks if they were within range. Everfrost applies more pressure on the enemy team and gives Morgana more crowd control with her Dark Binding. Lastly, Crown of the Shattered Queen is an interesting choice if Morgana wishes to out-burst her enemy and survive said enemy's burst during her deadly combo.

Although Morgana's core items do not really build well with the experimental items (they are too similar in utilization), you can adjust her build as necessary! But again, it's all experimental and for fun.

Morgana performs better when she's dealing more damage AND building more health. She should not be a squishy champion by late game. If you decide to build more damage than health, remember that Morgana is not necessarily a snowball champion. You may lose the trade against stronger mages.

Morgana's main goal is not to out-duel her opponents, but to maintain a presence in team fights and set up for objectives. You can do both, though!

Arcane Comet
applies more damage when Morgana lands her Dark Binding and Tormented Shadow combo.

Manaflow Band
assists with Morgana's mana regeneration and conservation.

applies ability haste so Morgana can trigger her abilities sooner and secure more kills in a team fight or gank.

Gathering Storm
assists with Morgana's damage mid and late-game.

Maintaining mana and adding ability haste is VERY important for Morgana! You could engage her deadly combo more often, poke enemies, and stay in lane longer.

Cheap Shot
applies more damage when Morgana lands her Dark Binding.

Ultimate Hunter
assists with Morgana's ultimate cool-down so she could trigger her deadly combo more often.

If you're picky about your mana usage like me, you can build attack speed as your offense instead.
This helps with farming because you can auto-attack minions comfortably and take over if Tormented Shadow fails to clear the wave.
You can also auto-attack enemies during Soul Shackles and Dark Binding.
