Annie
Annie has low range so use it against her. Be aware of her stun and level, it's pretty common for Annie players to get lvl 6 faster than you (by focusing on minions) and then dive you under tower.
Try to stun her, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Alistar
AP Alistar is pretty rare but someone who is mid main him in high elo can be pain in early game vs Xerath. They can out heal your pokes easily and bullrush until you are dead. I recommend playing safe, buying Athene's Unholy Grail as first item and even ask junglers help. Don't poke your self out mana early game, better focus on minions. If you going to attack look for stun [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back until you get more damage and mana regeneration.
Akali
Akali is pretty easy before lvl 6 you can even do few auto attacks on her. But once she hit lvl 6 better stay near you tower until you get more gear. Once you get Luden's Echo, with few [Q] pokes you can finish her with [R]
Azir
Azir is strong earlier, avoid sand soldier by staying far away, u usually take 2 shots from them. To many of that and he can finish you easily. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.
If you miss stun then poke him with Q and stay near your tower.
Once you get Luden's Echo, with few [Q] pokes and you can return the favor with[R].
Brand
Brand is pretty easy, try to avoid hes attack by fake walking back and fort. You are in big trouble if he gets stun on you. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Cassiopeia
If she hits you with poison(basically every magic attack after lvl 2) you better run, if you are to far away from tower it's going to be bad day.

Cho'Gath
Cho'Gath is another hard one to beat, if you can avoid hes [Q](Rupture)you should try to auto attack him as much as possible until he hits lvl 6. At lvl 6 stay near your tower and play defensively. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.
If you miss stun then poke him with Q and stay near your tower. Once you get Luden's Echo, hes harder to kill but couple of good [Q] pokes you can finish him with [R].
Diana
If you can avoid her[Q] Crescent Strike you can beat her easily. After lvl 6 stay near you tower just incase, bare in mind if she hits you with Q, you are pretty much dead.

Ekko
Ekko is very mobile champion, stay near your tower. Hes [Q]
Timewinder is easy to dodge. Once he gets lvl 6 be aware of ambushes, it's pretty common for Ekko to stay in mid bushes and wait for you to get to far away from your tower. He can even dive you under your tower and get away with it.
Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Fizz
I recommend starting with Zhonya's Hourglass as first item. Good Fizz player is hard to beat, there are couple of ways, you are basically in a survival mode all the time. Focus on minions to get maximum amount of gold for Zhonya's Hourglass, counter hes [R]. Use your ultimate first, poke him with [Q] until he uses jump, follow with [W] to slow him and pop [R]. Point here is to use [R] first get him low enough to make him go back or even kill. By the time he jumps you with everything, without Zhonya's Hourglass your most likely going to die and can't use ultimate.

Heimerdinger
Don't remember last time i saw Heimerdinger mid but, mostly he will out push you with minions, thx to gannons. He has couple of long range pokes nothing crazy, keep your distance.

Karma
Karma is also pretty rare, but can be dangerous. She has decent long range abilities what can late game 1 shot you. Don't be fooled of her low health her shield are powerful enough to kill you close range with half hp.

Karthus
Karthus [Q] has 1 sec cd so be aware, if you get hit with that to many times he can easily finish you. Keep your distance and constant movement.

Kassadin
Kassadin is probably one of the hardest to play against. Hes early game is weak and there is you best change. When he uses [Q] wait for the shield to run out before you attack. Attack him with auto attack every time there is an opportunity, be aware of minion agro. After lvl 6 play safe stay near your tower. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Katarina
Katarina usually starts with 4 potions and boots, it takes a while to burn trough all these potions but once they are gone shes going down fast. But be careful she can easily finish you off. If you play to safe sometimes they start roaming other lanes after lvl 6 so keep and eye out and don't get caught in ambush, if you move to other lanes and have no vision take safe path even if it is the longest. Try to stun her, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

In team fights save your stun for her [R]Death Lotus.
Kayle
Kayle i pretty rare in mid, but can Xerath very fast. Don't go to far away from you tower, she has a nasty slow that can be your death if your to far away.
Try to stun her, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Kennen
Kennen is easy to kill, but can return the favor just as fast. After lvl 6 keep your distance stay near your tower. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Kog'Maw
Kog'Maw can be annoying, he has long range aoe slow that is hard to dodge, get hit with it to many times and its hes night. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

LeBlanc
Leblanc use to be hard for me, but no so much anymore. She is pretty weak early game, use it for your advantage but keep your distance. Once she hits lvl 6 stay near your tower.

Lissandra
Lissandra is pretty easy vs Xerath, don't go to far away from your tower. Just keep poking her until you get more items. Try to stun her, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Lulu
Lulu is pretty easy vs Xerath, she has one long range attack that bounces off your minions, but can be dodged. She will become hard to kill because of her shields, but you can always finish her with Q she dose not have any heals.

Lux
Lux is pretty even mach, avoid her [Q](roots) later if you get caught she can finish you. If you get to close her [E] is hard to dodge. Try to stun her, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Malzahar
Malzahar is good lane pusher and his ultimate id deadly. Very common is ambush in bush, so watch out. Other than that it's fairly simple, keep your distance and play safe.Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Morgana
Morgana mid is pretty easy, stay behind minions to avoid her [Q](roots). If she shields wait for it to run out, before you do damage.

If you miss stun then poke her with Q and stay near your tower. Once you get Luden's Echo, with few [Q] pokes you can finish her with [R]
Nidalee
Avoid her javelin by staying behind your minions, its pretty slow but long range and hits like a truck. She can finish you off easily after one javaline.

Orianna
Orianna is harder to kill because of her self shield and her passive gives her an advantage with auto attacks. Use your range well and stay near your tower.

Ryze
Ryze mid is pretty rare, but he can kill you easily. Avoid hes roots at all costs, once he hits lvl 6 stay near your tower.

Swain
Swain can be hard vs Xerath, avoid hes Roots and start with Morellonomicon as your first Item.
If he gets lvl 6 stay near you tower and focus on minions.
Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.
If you miss stun then poke him with Q and stay near your tower.
Syndra
Avoid her stun at all costs, it has very long range and she can finish you off if shes above lvl 6.
Try to stun her same time if you can't avoid her stun.

Twisted Fate
VS Twisted Fate, if he attacks with wild cards stand still for second and see if cards will pass or you have to move. Warn your team if he gets lvl 6, and try to follow hes teleports.

Veigar
If you can avoid hes AOE stun, you can win him easily. Try to stun him, look for [E] + [W] + [Q] combination and then move back.

Vladimir
Vladimir is pretty rare mid, he has low range abilities but can be tough opponent. He can pretty much out heal your pokes, but if you keep it up you can kill him even early game. I would recommend buying Morellonomicon instead of Frost Queen's Claim.

Ziggs
Ziggs attacks are easy to dodge, don't go close to him to often, he has more advantages.

Zyra
Zyra is pretty rare mid, avoid her roots and you should be fine. Her adds can do ton of damage and be aware of her death she can still finish you off.

Zed
Always start Zhonya's Hourglass as your first item, focus more on minions to get maximum amount of gold. Before lvl 6 you should have no problems with him, after lvl 6 stay near you tower. Be aware of hes twin shadow, you can try using Exhaust vs Zed but soon as you get Zhonya's Hourglass its pretty much gg for hes ultimate.

Talon
Talon is very similar to Zed, always start with Zhonya's Hourglass. Early game focus on minions to get as much gold as possible. After lvl 6 stay near you tower.

Yasuo
vs Yasuo stay away from your own minions at all times, be close to your tower from the start.
I usually don't take Zhonya's Hourglass vs Yasuo, but it's not a bad choice if you do.

Varus
Varus mid is pretty rare but can be fun poke duel, but Xerath has more advantages imo. Stay behind minions all the time, hes poke damage is reduced after every pierced target.

Vel'Koz
Vel'koz is has more damage in close range, but lacks long range where Xerath is superior. If Vel'koz uses [R] in teamfights, counter him with your [R], it's easy 3 shots to standing target.

Hey everyone, i'm currently Diamond 3 player had over 1000+ games in season 6 and i can say that i made from Bronze to Diamond playing only Xerath solo queue without any duo. I hope to make this guide helpful for everyone no matter what league you are stuck in.
+ Long range caster + Good crowd control (stun and aoe slow) + Very strong late game + Heavy burst + Almost all spells are aoe damage

Flash is the best and must have summoner spell for almost every champion on every lane.
Barrier is best defence against any incoming damage abilities, very good counter vs Ignite
With Flash and Barrier combo you can survive early game jungler ganks and they are life saver trough out the whole game.

With new build i start first, it's cheap and you pretty much solve all mana problems.
second is Luden's Echo because it's charge gives highest amount of damage in early game. With couple of good [Q] pokes you can finish most champions with [R] pretty early. I don't buy boots anymore so i will rely Luden's Echo and Mejai's Soulstealer for the movment speed.
is next, with 15 stacks and Luden's Echo i have enough movment speed to skip boots.
next is Rabadon's Deathcap with just three items i will be pushing almost 500 ability power, thats ofcourse with 25 stacks of Mejai's Soulstealer.
is next always check enemy team magic resist items, if they have no magic resist what so ever u can buy it later on, but it's pretty rare.
is probably next best for damage.
was and probably still is my next main item, it's less damage but slow is deadly for enemy team, at this point you will be having 800+ ability power.

is the last item i buy, at this point you will have 1000+ ability power.
