Introduction

I'm Shojar, I play Udyr often in the jungle when my team needs someone with great iniations, and superb damage without many damage items.

Skill Break Down

Ability Sequence

Each time Udyr switches stances, he gains 5 movement speed and 10% attack speed for 5 seconds. This effect can stack up to 3 times. Basically, the more you spam, the faster you go.

STANCE ACTIVATION: Udyr gains attack speed for 5 seconds. Udyr's first attack after activation will deal bonus magic damage over 2 seconds to the target. PERSISTENT EFFECT: Udyr's attack speed is increased. This ability is used for a different style of playing Udyr. I don't put any points into it until its needed.

STANCE ACTIVATION: Udyr gains a shield for 5 seconds. PERSISTENT EFFECT: Udyr gains life steal. This is what seperates Udyr and the other Junglers, he has a sheild, on basically no cooldown, that gains health on every hit.

STANCE ACTIVATION: Udyr gains increased movement speed and ignores unit collision for a few seconds. If he attacks an enemy during this time, he will also dash slightly closer to them. PERSISTENT EFFECT: Udyr's basic attacks stun his target for 1 second. This effect cannot reoccur on the same target within 6 seconds. This is your best ability. You have a movement increasing, stunning, dashing, spam-able ability. When you think of Udyr, this comes to mind.

STANCE ACTIVATION: Udyr unleashes pulsing waves of fire around himself, dealing magic damage each second to enemies within 250 range for 5 seconds. PERSISTENT EFFECT: On the first attack after activation and on every third subsequent attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in flames, dealing magic damage in a cone in front of him. This is why you're a jungler. Basically, you spit fire, and every few attacks, fire comes out. Great for clearing, and damage while in combat.

Runes

For Runes I run
x9 For clearing the Jungle faster, and making fighting in team fights a little bit easier.

x9 For some early armor. Making it easier to stay in the jungle longer, exchange easier.

x9 For obvious reasons, AP isn't really needed in the Jungle, but it's useful for ganking mid and late game.

x9 For getting between camps, chasing down the squishies, or just heading back to the Jungle. Makes everything easier/ faster.

Spells

Jungle, Duh!

Flash if your best friend, since Udyr has no direct gap closer, (excluding Blazing Stampede) flash is something you should take, it can be used to flash over to baron, get a quick smite, or just to escape a threat.

Ghost... It's a viable spell, but your movement speed is already insane, any more speed is really a waste.

Creeping / Jungling

Fast Blue Route

Start by heading over to Wolves
Activate Wingborne Storm and kill them all. Have your team waiting and guarding blue buff.
Ask for a hard leash. After getting blue buff, skip directly to red buff. Level up your Iron Mantle and get to smiting. After clearing Red, head to Double Golems. Clear them then finish your Jungle Route.

Tl/DR?
Wolves->Hard Leash Blue->Red->Double Golems->Wraiths->Wolves->Repeat.<-

What to do?

Udyr's job in a fight is one you'll have to master. Use your ability combo to acheive max speed. ( Iron Mantle, Wingborne Storm, Blazing Stampede), then spam bear stance to run in and stun the ADC or the next squishiest target, then go into Wingborne Storm for some damage output, and switch to Blazing Stampede every time it's off CD.

Ranked Play

Udyr, Ranked?

Well... Yes.

Udyr is never banned, because he isn't played very often. And when he is, it's mainly by new players who are still learning him. Not playing him in ranked. But for those who want to venture towards that. Don't hesitate!! Udyr's potential is limitless. If you're playing with someone who at least knows to leash, you'll be just fine. Your ganks are possible right off the bat, right from clearing blue. You'll hardly get invaded because you can always just hop over to red, or to their blue.
