I'm probably going to consider reinvesting a good chunk of it to Defense, the damage Lulu dishes out is still hefty even without masteries like Sunder , although I feel like I should just fully invest in Offense when it comes to 5v5. Any other suggestions/ideas?

I was thinking about adding a mini synergy / counters guide for when to pick Lulu, but that isn't necessarily the goal of my guide. I feel it's notable that Lulu is a fairly nice pick against Teemo, out-trading him in lane as well as dominating him in team fights (assuming both teams have equal crowd control). Plus, Lulu being a perfect teammate for Wukong is worth a mention as well. Wild Growth and
Cyclone combined are just too powerful not to mention.

Your masteries are still ineffectual. There's no reason to go so deep into offense and stop short of 21. And if you're going a 21/9/0-ish build, just skip the 1 in utility altogether. That's not crucial.

Mucho gracias, I'll trade you a +rep for taking criticism like a man.

The reason why I'm a sucker for magic pen is because it affects Pix, Faerie Companion damage. Season 3 masteries are going to be great because attack speed/armor pen and CDR/magic pen are no longer linked, meaning AD casters can take CDR and armor pen, and Lulu (and Teemo) players can take attack speed and magic pen.

Also, here's why I think armor pen isn't so great on Lulu:

I already deal more magic than physical damage with Malady not out yet. If I complete Malady, my magic damage will skyrocket. Blade of the Ruined King also deals magic damage.

Anyway, here are the main differences in my way of playing Lulu compared to yours:

1. I used to run movespeed quints, but I don't think they're that great anymore, especially if someone forces a level 1 fight.

2. My starting items are Boots, Cloth Armor, and pots. This makes me extremely sturdy in a level 1 fight, especially if I also start 9 in defense.

3. I then rush the Cloth Armor into Grez's Spectral Lantern, which by the way I think is a completely overpowered item, it costs nearly half the price of hextech sweeper for the same reveal, which is very very powerful and really puts the 'support' tag on a Lulu wielding it.

4. After that, I build Wit's End followed by Ionian Boots of Lucidity. These three items form my core. I have damage, armor, MR, and lots of utility.

5. After my core, I sometimes build defense, depending on how the game plays out. My first defensive item is usually Aegis of the Legion, or Frozen Heart. If I'm not being focused, I build even more damage - usually Malady followed by Blade of the Ruined King.

6. I don't build AP. At all. 8D

Interesting you emphasized magic penetration so much, last night I began drafting my Season 3 runes, items, and masteries for On-Hit Lulu (if the current PBE stuff doesn't change too much). With the new boot enchantments, I feel much more comfortable running Greater Quintessence of Magic Penetration as well as Greater Mark of Magic Penetration. My new masteries don't dip into Utility, favoring more Defense investment but still a good amount of Offense to hit those Magic / Armor Pen masteries. The reason I want to hit those penetration masteries so desperately is the new items that I've chosen. That's another discussion for another time, though.

+Rep, I enjoyed the feedback.

Bear in mind that Lulu's AP scaling is horrendous. You already know that. Out of her four skills, one doesn't scale at all, and the scaling on the others are 0.5, 0.6 and 0.5 respectively. Only two of her skills do damage (not including her passive), and one of which you have to choose between damage and a shield.

Wooglet's Witchcap is definitely a very late game item for Lulu (it's not an item you would rush on her), but I think you're paying too much for the Zhonya's Hourglass active and a ton of questionably useful AP.

Here's why I think Blackfire Torch is better: the magic pen. That's before they completely nerf it, that is. Unbeknownst to a lot of people, magic pen is one of the most important stats on Lulu. Oh and it also gives CDR. I like the mini-ignite because it helps to mitigate her overall severe lack of damage.

In my 'AP' Lulu rune page, I run magic pen reds AND quints, and standard armor and MR yellows and blues. And not a single AP rune. Yes I think AP runes (and masteries) suck on Lulu because of her scaling. 18 AP from the Blast mastery is only 9 extra damage on Glitterlance.

Oh and just to enjoy it while it lasts: on TT, I run 9/9/12 on Lulu. Offense I grab AD, then CDR and magic pen (since you can't grab attack speed and magic pen). Defense, the standard 9, ending in Veteran's Scars . Utility, full points in Expanded Mind , Meditation (which I think is the most important utility mastery!) and max out Swiftness also because a single point in Greed is completely useless.

The 10% armor pen and AP per level are useless. That also leaves you with insufficient points to stat effectively in defense and utility.

The 10% armor pen was mostly just a filler point. In comparison to anything else I could stick one point into, I figured 10% armor pen would be the most effective late game. As for the AP per level, I see how you could not want that, but again, it's beneficial late game. Especially with Wooglet's Witchcap.

Try flat AD or magic pen quints instead.

I agree that Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed are generally not as useful as other quintessences. I almost always run Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, the only time I don't being when I run AP runes for harass. Your rune page sounds extremely interesting for early advantages, I'm definitely going to try it out.

Wooglet's Witchcap in particular is the worst item for on-hit Lulu - it costs a bomb and isn't useful unless you have a lot of AP. Partial AP hybrid Lulu builds should never build Wooglet's Witchcap. Try Blackfire Torch instead.

With Guardian Angel being removed from 3v3, I found myself struggling to fill the defensive void that it left. Wooglet's Witchcap fits the role in a different way. With my build I have ~200 AP to buff Help, Pix! and Wild Growth, the stasis passive is useful, and the armor keeps physical attacks from hitting too hard. I agree that it may not be the most cost effective item, but I've found that it works well for the way I try and keep myself relevant late game.

Blackfire Torch is an item I never quite liked, so I didn't think of it for Lulu. The HP would be nice, but I don't think that's enough to justify a purchase. Yes, the passive is considered quite powerful, but I'd still prefer armor + stasis.

All in all, very interesting points. You definitely utilize early game more than I do and your criticism is very appreciated. I'm going to give what you suggested a try, excluding Blackfire Torch. Be sure to stop by again for season 3, I need someone to bounce ideas off of. Haha.

I also main Lulu in Twisted Treeline, and I have to give this a -1. Several things wrong with your guide:

- Your masteries are very ineffectual. You specced too far into the offensive tree. The 10% armor pen and AP per level are useless. That also leaves you with insufficient points to stat effectively in defense and utility.

- You should never use attack speed quints. They have awful stats. Try flat AD or magic pen quints instead. I have a Lulu rune page where I run attack speed reds AND blues, and flat AD quints. Extremely strong early game, but the tradeoff is of course that I have no MR.

- Your situational items are pretty bad. Wooglet's Witchcap in particular is the worst item for on-hit Lulu - it costs a bomb and isn't useful unless you have a lot of AP. Partial AP hybrid Lulu builds should never build Wooglet's Witchcap. Try Blackfire Torch instead.

Thank you very much! Yeah, Lulu is still fairly strong late game, especially if you give her the opportunity to dish out damage unpunished for a few seconds with Whimsy.

Good luck in ranked!

+1, build works quite well.

I tried a similar build a few days ago, and with my silence I was able to kill a completely fed Graves lategame in 5v5.

However I could see it work well in 3v3, with a strong AP-Tank like Galio/Singed/Amumu and a strong AD-Gapclosing champ like Xin Zhao, Lee Sin or Riven.

They can stand at the front rows, while you dish out damage, save them with shield speed and ult.
I will try this with my ranked team :)

Regard,
Hunkelmunkel
