hi im Babylonius from EUW, im an all-round player and i play whatever i feel like, due to my high success with Malphite the past few days i've decided to make a guide and see if other can make use of it

this guide contains information about

the items are pretty straight forward, just get armor, Frozen Heart as a first item when you play against an AD top laner, and get Abyssal Scepter if you're against an AP top laner (like ryze) Ninja Tabi is one of the best items you can get because it synergizes so well with your armor, sunfire is a great item that synergizes with your Q because you'll stick real close to your enemies and it will slowly burn then down, abyssal scepter is great for a little boost of AP and needed MR, Thornmail is the icing on the cake as it will deal a lot of damage around late-game (i usually get it to do around 108 + 15% of incoming damage in damage) overal Malphite is a great anti-carry top laner in a meta that favors the carry top laners

i play with 9 armor pen marks, 9 armor seals and 9 magic resist glyphs, with 3 AP quints

the armor seals and magic resist glyphs can also be replaced with scaling armor and scaling magic resist if you want to

i play with 0/30/0, as offensive masteries aren't necessary on Malphite, the reason why is because your E scales with your armor, the more you have of it, the more damage it will do, using 0/30/0 will get you the most use out of it

the first ability you max on Malphite depends on the lane matchup, if you're against a ranged opponent you need to max your Q as you'll get kited if you run at them, max your E against melee opponents to reduce their attack speed and decrease the damage you take from them, always max your W second to get the most ouf of the armor steroid

Pros:
can stack a lot of armor and still do damage
great initiation
anti-carry top laner
great at roaming
can turn a game around
can potentially become immortal
can potentially jungle

Cons:
mana hungry
not good when behind
weak against AP comps
can get his team killed with a bad initiation
csing is hard

Malphite works great in teams with good communication and good follow-up

he can ult in and potentially nearly one-shot an enemy carry while his team cleans up the rest, Malphite can set up kills and control objectives by just being near it as his ult is often if not always feared by the enemy team, coordinated teleport ganks with Malphite can quickly win games

csing with malphite can get pretty damn hard, his auto attacks are pretty clunky and he doesnt have all that much base ad and he's easily pushes around early game by the enemy laner because he wont have much armor yet, spamming your abilities to cs isnt a smart idea either because malphite is gated in lane by his small mana pool and high mana cost on his abilities, his W makes it a tiny bit easier to farm because he'll deal extra damage on-hit from his armor but he'll start pushing in because he'll also deal damage around the target, potentially replacing the magic pen marks for AD or attack speed marks can help csing in the early game

late-game once you have your sunfire cape farming becomes much easier as you'll have a lot of AoE damage to push the wave in and take towers

Malphite his kit is unique as he's the only champion that can steal movespeed from one if his abilities, and also the only champion that has an ability that scales with armor while it ALSO slows attack speed in an AoE, he's also one of the only champions who gets the "Unstoppable" state (in which he can go through all forms of crowd control without stopping) with a massive 1.5 second knockup on his ult

not to forget about his W which passively increases his armor up to 30% at rank 5, while giving him a Pseudo-Hydra effect which scales with AP and armor on its active
