⛓️ S10 CHALLENGER SYLAS OTP ULTIMATE GUIDE (11.4)

By Rime101
WELCOME! GUIDE UPDATED: March 05, 2021 for Patch 11.5. Everfrost and Cosmic drive recently got buffed. Verdant Barrier and Banshees got buffed on 11.3. VERDANT BARRIER IS SLEEPER OP. KEEP INVESTING! Verdant Barrier

Guide TLDR beginner; Take Fleet Footwork Presence of Mind Legend: Tenacity Last Stand. Play Mid or Top. Start Doran's Ring if they have Ignite. If they dont have ignite you can instead go Corrupting Potion. Build Ionian Boots of Lucidity Dark Seal Liandry's Anguish Zhonya's Hourglass Cosmic Drive Void Staff.

Everfrost may or may not be better than liandries. Too close in power to tell if one is superior

If you are the only AP on the team Luden's Tempest + Sorcerer's Shoes can be very strong.

I'm Rime, I finished season 9 Challenger 650LP, and Season 10 Grandmaster 145LP on NA server. Season 10 I focused more on streaming and providing educational content over climbing so you can expect high elo game from my Twitch.

I became a Sylas OTP mid season 10 and have played 1500+ games of him since.

If you don't want to read here's my in depth video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7YMHttw0lc
Build path is outdated on the youtube guide but it still has matchups/ combos.

Everything in this guide is how I play Sylas and is simply what I take & what works best for me. THIS GUIDE IS SOLOQ BASED, I NO LONGER PLAY IN AMATEUR SO IF YOU PLAY IN COMPETITIVE OR ARE A PRO PLAYER I OBVIOUSLY WOULDNT RECOMMEND FULL AGGRO IGNITE PLAYSTYLE. Late game bruiser builds are stronger in lower elo's (longer avg game length) and pro play because of how hard it is to play aggressive since enemy team is in 5 man comms, BUT for SOLOQ high damage works great. The guide isn't perfect, I'm just sharing my knowledge since I've learned so much playing him.

ITEMS FOR THE INFOGRAPHIC BELOW ARE OUTDATED

ITEMS ARE GETTING CHANGED EVERY PATCH SO I CANT TELL YOU 100% WHATS BEST

THE 11.4 PATCH NOTES:

Everfrost
BUILD PATH Lost Chapter + Blasting Wand + 1250 gold ⇒ Lost Chapter + Blasting Wand + Kindlegem + 450 gold
HEALTH 200 ⇒ 250
GLACIATE DAMAGE 100 (+30% AP) ⇒ 125 (+25% AP)
GLACIATE CAST TIME 0.25 seconds ⇒ 0.15 seconds

everfrost got multiple buffs so it may be broken af this patch

Cosmic Drive
REMOVED SPELLDANCE MOVEMENT SPEED Cosmic Drive no longer grants bonus movement speed when dealing ability damage
NEW PUT IT IN COSMIC DRIVE If you have at least 160 ability power, gain 20 ability haste and 10-30 movement speed (based on level)
ABILITY HASTE 30 ⇒ 20

so basically cosmic drive is op because it gives 40 haste now.

The most OP items you can build on 11.5 are Dark Seal Cosmic Drive Verdant Barrier Seeker's Armguard Void Staff. Build these items whenever you can.

Also Everfrost may or may not be OP

FOR PATCH 11.5 Cosmic Drive & Zhonya's Hourglass are CORE ITEM

Current Build I am Using is: Ionian Boots of Lucidity --> Everfrost into --> Cosmic Drive --> Zhonya's Hourglass + Mejai's Soulstealer. Other items depend on enemy team comp. Lots of mr? Void Staff Healing? Morellonomicon Are you rich? Rabadon's Deathcap Good ults? Chemtech Putrifier + haste stat rune

If you are an experienced sylas player and are playing as the only AP on the team recommend running Electrocute. Build Luden's Tempest Cosmic Drive Sorcerer's Shoes Mejai's Soulstealer and Zhonya's Hourglass

Morellonomicon vs Chemtech Putrifier
Chemtech putrifier can be stronger then morello some games. If you are already building everfrost and cosmic drive and you need to build antiheal the 20 cdr from chemtech is often better then the 250 health and 30 ap from morello. Not sure which is better but its definitely something to think about as I build chemtech a lot instead.

2 IMPORTANT THING ON SYLAS IS TO STAY UP IN LEVELS! Sylas relies on levels to be strong because of his high base damage and base stats. He has the 8th highest base stats in the game level 18 and has the 2ND highest base HP in the game level 18 (2480 HP)which is 2nd to kled mounted.

Because of his high base health building armor/MR is generally better then building HP, making items like Seeker's Armguard & Verdant Barrier extremely strong on him. If you ever start a game 2/0 or 5/0 you should look to skip defensive items and instead buy Lost Chapter early

I highly recommend building Everfrost Luden's Tempest or Liandry's Anguish. They are currently the best AP mythic items on Sylas Mid lane. Everfrost has a much stronger build path because Kindlegem is now in it instead of just 1250 gold. Liandry's Anguish is the best mythic on top lane Sylas, and will always have strong scaling.

The build I go most consists of the three core items Everfrost Cosmic Drive Zhonya's Hourglass

OR

Luden's Tempest Cosmic Drive Void Staff

KEEP IN MIND THAT TAKING SLIGHTLY BAD TRADES ON SYLAS IS GOOD FOR SYLAS!

Fleet Footwork Q max sylas play safe and look to farm up until you have 2 or 3 items. Max order with Fleet build is Q > W > E. Generally stronger with Liandry's Anguish as your mythic item. Currently the most consistent, will always be strong. Is especially strong on Patch 11.1 because rushing Ionian Boots of Lucidity are extremely broken. With only Ionian and Liandries with transcendence runes you will have 50+ Haste which is an extremely strong powerspike for Sylas. I highly recommend Fleet Sylas for players trying to pickup Sylas because it helps with his weak laning phase.

Conqueror is also more of a mid-late game rune that works better with 2+ items. Highly recommend going for Liandry's Anguish every game you have Conqueror. Zhonya's Hourglass is also important for playing with conqueror because your job is to dive in full combo, zhonya with conq stacks then continue fighting. Cosmic Drive is most likely your best 3rd item when going conqueror and liandries.

Electrocute ADVANCED

Much weaker on 11.4 because of how strong defensive items are. It is difficult to play an assassin playstyle vs champs with Immortal Shieldbow Sterak's Gage [[verdant barrier] etc.

Electrocute W max sylas you can look to play aggressive early game. When laning level 1 as Sylas your goal should be to hit level 2 1 or 2 minions before your lane opponent, DO NOT HARD SHOVE, and keep in mind that if they hit 2 first you'll lose out on some early CS. If you are laning vs someone melee I recommend starting E and using E1 E2 + 2 Auto attacks level 1 to proc electrocute! If playing vs someone ranged its up to you if you can get a good opportunity to E1 E2 AA to proc electrocute or just q start and farm, game dependent. When playing vs ranged ideally you hit 2 at the same time, they shove you in, the wave bounces back towards their turret and you can recall around level 5 or your jungler can level 3 gank them. Going for heavy trades is ideal because you always have Kingslayer to heal up while they will be forced to stay low or use potions. Gonna say once again that BAD trades on Sylas aren't necessarily bad because you always have your W. If you can trade 300 of your HP for 200 of their HP always do it.

As of right now I believe Fleet Footwork to be the strongest rune page on Sylas.
I want to make electrocute work but it is very hard to use well on 11.4. Defensive items such as Immortal Shieldbow Verdant Barrier and Sterak's Gage make it difficult to one shot people so I currently think opting for a scaling build is better. Games are harder to snowball because of defensive items being so strong.
Sudden Impact Is the most important rune when taking electrocute. The magic pen from sudden impact goes fantastic with Sorcerer's Shoes or even Luden's Tempest. EXTREMELY STRONG VS FULL SQUISHY CHAMPS

I've tried every rune you could think of and my overall opinion is that Conqueror IS still good on Sylas but not as it was last season. Sylas uses every rune in the precision tree extremely well; Presence of Mind Legend: Tenacity and Last Stand. The problem is that during this pre season there is so much damage and burst in the game that fleet wont save you from getting 1 shot and stacking conqueror fully in a teamfight can be tricky. Secondary runes are a lot more open as Domination, Sorcery, and Inspiration are all viable (avoid resolve though). Sudden Impact + Ravenous, Manaflow + Transcendece, and Timewarp Tonic + Biscuits are all strong secondary rune choices. DO NOT RUN COUP DE GRACE ON SYLAS!

Sylas has extremely weak laning phase pre level 6. You can go Time Warp Tonic + Biscuit Delivery for easy laning phase if you struggle early game. If you find early game ok you should use Magical Footwear instead of timewarp tonic. Once you get better at Sylas or if you get an easy matchup ( Twisted Fate, Lissandra, Ahri, etc.) I recommend Transcendence + Manaflow Band secondary instead of inspiration tree.

Below is your ideal rune page when running a Fleet Footwork Rune page Start with Doran's Ring and 2x Health Potion. If using timewarp + biscuits start Corrupting Potion.

You should take Ignite when laning vs a big roamer such as LeBlanc or if playing vs Galio since he has global ult, I prefer Teleport vs Twisted Fate though.

Basic attacks generate 6 energize stacks. 1 is generated for every 24 in-game units traveled. Includes dashes, blinks or being displaced to another location.

Gives mana regen and restores % mana on takedown.

Gain Legend stacks through champion kills, epic monster kills, large monster kills and minion kills.

Deal added damage to champions below 60% hp. You will do more damage to a target the less health you are.

3 biscuits will appear in your bag, consuming these will give you a return on mana and health. Each one will increase your max mana by 50 as well.

Works extremely well with corrupting potion and biscuits, makes laning easier.

+ Haste
+ Adaptive Force
+ Magic Resist

Conqueror is good when you prefer playing like a bruiser or are playing vs a team comp with 3+ tanks. Start Doran's Ring when you are running Conqueror and remember to buy Dark Seal when you recall.

If you are laning vs Zed and the enemy top + jungle is something like Zac + Poppy you will want to go Conqueror. Conqueror is also the stronger rune when playing top lane vs most bruisers and all tanks.

If you are laning vs Zed and the enemy top + jungle is squishy like Jayce +
Evelynn I would recommend going [[Electrocute]. If you go conq and wanna take jungle camps mid-late game you will lose quite a bit HP.

If you are laning vs double AD champions such as Zed and Lee Sin it is best to rush Seeker's Armguard. If you are playing vs an AP heavy team comp and they don't have much CC it is good to go double adaptive MR runes so you can prioritize building straight up damage instead of Mercury's Treads.

Below is the rune page you will want to run vs Zed/Talon/Yone/Lucian. Use the same page Vs Ekko Diana Fizz just with MR runes instead of Armor.

Each stack of Conqueror grants bonus Attack Damage or Ability Power (based off level) for 6 seconds, stacking up to 12 times.

Makes laning easier by making corruption potion and biscuits op.

+ Haste
+ Adaptive Force
+ Armor

Experienced Sylas Players

Take the runes below if you are an experienced sylas player looking to Snowball/ 1v9 in ranked. These runes are especially strong vs melee mids such as ex. Yasuo , Yone , Fizz , etc.

Also take these runes if the enemy team has ultimates with good AP ratios, ex. Ezreal , Hecarim , Ziggs. All AP ratios are on a google spreadsheet at the bottom of this guide if you want to see.

Below is the rune page I run when I am the only ap on the team. Making a full damage build much stronger then fleet scaling.

Hitting a champion with 3 separate attacks or abilities within 3 seconds deals bonus 30 - 180 (based on level) (Adaptive ratio: +40% Bonus Attack Damage or +25% Ability Power) adaptive damage.
25 - 20 seconds Cooldown (based on level).

After exiting stealth or using a dash, leap, blink, or teleport, dealing any damage to a champion grants you 7 Lethality and 6 Magic Penetration for 5 seconds.

If the triggering effect deals damage it will also benefit from the penetration.

Cooldown: 4 seconds (On expiration).

Collect eyeballs for champion takedowns. Gain an Adaptive bonus of 0.6 Attack Damage or 1 Ability Power, per eyeball collected.

Upon completing your collection at 20 eyeballs, additionally gain an Adaptive bonus of 6 Attack Damage, or 10 Ability Power for a total of 18 Attack Damage, or 30 Ability Power.

Collect 1 eyeball per champion takedown.

Gain 1% (+ 2% per Bounty Hunter stack) omni vamp, up to 11% at 5 stacks.

Earn a Bounty Hunter stack for champion takedowns, up to one per unique enemy champion.

Gain bonuses upon reaching the following levels:

Level 5: 5 ability haste.
Level 8: 5 ability haste.
Level 11: On champion takedowns, reduce the remaining cooldown of your basic abilities by 20%.

Hitting enemy champions with a spell grants 25 maximum Mana, up to 250 Mana.

Upon earning 250 Mana, Manaflow Band restores 1% of your missing Mana every 5 seconds.

15 seconds cooldown.

For early laning phase you basically lose trades vs every champ level 1,2, & 3. Just play safe, farm up, use potions, and know that your biggest power spike is level 9.

3 points in Chain Lash and an empowered auto will one-shot caster minions . Use Kingslayer at the end of trades since it's more effective the lower HP you are.

Spam Abilities when taking down turrets for more damage + attack speed

Max Kingslayer when playing vs LeBlanc you can hit her for free with it when she jumps on you to proc her mark.

When laning vs Ekko or Kayle whoever ults first LOSES the 1v1.

When playing vs Mordekaiser you want to ult second because his base stats will be inflated from stealing your base stats.

You get ranged form when you steal Jayce ult. Jayce ranged E Q combo can be good for sieging as Sylas.

You get melee form when you steal Nidalee or Elise ult. Also Elise rappel can be very useful.

If you take Samira ult you can use it instantly since you cant get S combo level.

Some ults are good to hold onto just for laning phase such as Blitzcrank and Olaf

Build Rylai's Crystal Scepter when playing vs Annie its OP with Tibbers

Build Liandry's Anguish when playing vs Gangplank & Rumble it's good with their ults.

Build Mejai's Soulstealer when playing vs Ekko since you can use Chronobreak to avoid dying.

Build Spirit Visage vs Swain it is insane with Demonic Ascension

Samira Blade Whirl and Yasuo Wind Wall can block your E2 and can block you from stealing ults, play carefully.

Best 3 ults in the game to steal are Swain Gangplank and Fiddlesticks

Also keep in mind a lot of ults have insanely high AP ratios for no reason because Riot is a bunch of trolls. Ults like Gnar Volibear Lucian and Hecarim have 1:1 or better AP ratios lol...

My Ultimate tier list is on a google spreadsheet linked below

I have a matchup spreadsheet on a google doc as well as an Ultimate Tier list for Sylas:

Apologies but I don't want to take the time to make everything pretty on Mobafire so instead Im just linking the spreadsheets. On the bottom you can look at different spreadsheets ex. top matchups and mid matchups. FOR SEASON 11 I AM JUST RUNNING ELECTROCUTE EVERY SINGLE GAME AND HAVING A LOT OF SUCCESS.
