I. Introduction - Who am I? What will this guide entail?

[Art is by mikurei26 on DeviantArt]

DISCLAIMER: Before anything else, I would like to say that this guide is heavily W.I.P., it will be continuously worked on in the near future.

The thoughts lingering in your head may be something along the lines of, 'Who are you? Why should I trust your guide?'

The answer is short and simple. You shouldn't.

When you look at other guides out there, you see that they're from a Diamond III player who've had years of experience playing their champion and have the most in-depth information possible.

Me? I'm a support main who's been playing for a little over a month (as of making this guide). However, I do think that the information I'll be sharing here will be valuable nonetheless. Aside from that, I want more room to grow and be more experienced, so if you feel like making a comment to improve the guide, please do!

Lastly, this guide will be heavily WIP, I will try to update it as often as I can, so keep in mind that not everything you read here will be 100% optimal for this champion as of the current patch.

Without further ado, let's get right into thin-

II. The Build - A Summary.

[]

First and foremost, what will this build be? Well, the main idea for this build is to focus on Soraka's early game. Mainly, zoning. You may be asking yourself, "What is zoning, exactly?" Well, zoning is creating pressure with your abilities in order to change the position of an enemy champion. This will be used to relieve pressure from your ADC and at the same time prevent the opposing laner from getting CS, giving your own lane the advantage.

Zoning can also be achieved with your champion's own presence. Hiding in a bush, for example. Coordinate with your ADR to create situations where the enemy laner will be in a disadvantage position-wise, denying them their last-hits.

How do I zone with Soraka?

Soraka's zoning tools are her Q and her E. Starcall creates a semi-wide circle which slows and damages enemies, healing yourself, and possibly your ADC when used in tandem with Astral Infusion. Soraka's second zoning tool in her kit is her E, Equinox. This is a great ability which creates an area in similar size to her Q which silences all enemies, and roots them if they remain inside. Equinox also damages for a bit at the start and end of the ability.

I'm also not going to bother to list the pros and cons of using Soraka. This build doesn't particularly differ from how you would standardly play her, this guide just mainly focuses on her laning phase and capitalizing on that. If you want to know her Pros and Cons, check out a different guide.

III. Runes - Why these?

[]

Summon: Aery Summon Aery is a fantastic keystone that synergizes well with the playstyle of this build. It helps poking in lane by damaging enemies (It even scales off AP which is useful) and gives your allies an extra shield when you heal them.
Manaflow Band Manaflow Band is useful in the early laning phase considering how mana-intensive the play style you're going to be executing for this build is. On top of giving you an ability without any mana cost, it even restores for a percentage of your maximum mana.
Transcendence This is more of a standard pick on Soraka which doesn't particularly pertain to this build. CDR pairs well with her kit and gives you bonus AP once you have more than the cap amount, which can strengthen your heals and other abilities in the late game since they also scale off your AP.
Scorch This is where things come more down to preference. I like to take Scorch because it is useful for giving extra damage when you're poking in the early game. It's not all that useful in the late game since you're gonna be healing more than poking.

IV. Summoner Spells - Be prepared!

You know the drill. Flash is standard on almost every champion, especially ones lacking viable movement or escape options like Soraka. Flash is 100% essential and you should always take it.
I know what it says above. You should almost always take exhaust since it's a great form of peel in addition to Equinox. I just like to take heal because I'm stupid lol.
Heal is a much more situational summoner spell. Usually, Exhaust would be a better option, but if you feel that you're more acquainted with heal than Exhaust, use heal. This is especially for beginners who aren't used to using exhaust, but I recommend going Exhaust almost always.
