Sejuani - The Epitome of Tank

Sejuani, the Winter's Wrath is a Tank released on 1/17/2012. She is a relatively low damage tank with great supportive abilities and a exceptional meta game.

Her main trick is her exceptional CC, and the ability to catch her enemies off guard. She is great with a carry in bottom lane if you do not have a support.

This guide is going to show you how to build her meta game, and how to give your carry the best game they've had in a long time.

NOTE: This guide will only work in Summoner's Rift.

Also, I will be updating this on a regular basis.

Runes

Marks: Really a no brainer here, can't get much better than this for mitigation. A good alternative is Greater Mark of Warding -- This is mainly based on preference.

Seals: Again, not much of a choice here. As I said with Marks, Greater Seal of Warding is a good alternative -- Do not do it with both. Only with one or the other.

Glyphs: Per Level is best for Meta Game. "Why aren't you getting Per Level armor seals?!" This is for more early game defense -- in other words, having all Per Level runes is not a good thing.

Quintessences: Quintessences have a lot of flexibility for Sejuani. The health ones are good for early game harassment, but fall off late game. Greater Quintessence of Swiftness/Avarice/Resilience/Warding are all viable options, but again, this is mainly preference -- Fortitude is still best for early game. DO NOT EVER use Per Level quintessences on Sejuani.

Sejuani runes are relatively flexible, but as a tank with no passive armor or magic resistance increasing buffs, it is important to get these stats as high as possible.

Masteries

This mastery build is aimed at giving you the most survivability, while giving you gold for assisting rather than taking kills.

Generally you want to play Sejuani like a support early game, so that is where Mercenary comes into play heavily. If you can get your carry many kills, you'll be rolling in money as well just based on this mastery.

The rest of the masteries are just standard tank masteries, really.

Summoner Spells

Flash is all around a great summoner spell on almost any champion. In Sejuani's case, it is great for escaping and initiating team fights, as well as initiating ganks. Although, let me clarify: If you can initiate or escape with Arctic Assault, you should, seeing as it has a far shorter cooldown as well as the ability to traverse walls; not to mention it has about the same range. Flash is just to further the capability.

Again, good summoner spell for most champions -- specifically it's good with Sejuani's ability to gank so efficiently. No one expects a giant pig flying at their face going mock 10.

Other Summoner Spells:
Really the only other viable summoner spell for Sejuani. While useful for escaping, it's not quite as useful for ganking. Really, this can be considered as personal preference -- replace with ghost if you do use it.

Only use teleport if you're being forced into top lane. It's not that great in other lanes.

Exhaust is an alright summoner, but honestly someone else should have it.
Bad Summoner Spells:

Exceptionally awful, never use.

You're not on your team to do damage, don't take this summoner.

As for the rest of the summoners that haven't been mentioned, they're sub-par, but usable.

Sejuani's Role in a Team and Ability Usage

Sejuani has many roles to fill, which vary from lane to lane, as well as team fights.

Her main role, in all cases, is to present a sufficient amount of cc and initiation for the rest of the team to do the cleanup. Due to her exceptional mobility, she can easily use her dash to intiate team fights and generally come out alive.

Arctic Assault -- Arctic ***ualt is Sejuani's main ability for initiating. It has a relatively long range, slightly smaller than that of Flash, as well as instantly slowing everyone in a small area around the point of Impact. This has exceptional synergy with the next ability we're going to talk about, Permafrost. Another thing to mention about Arctic Assault is that it can be used to go through walls, up cliffs, and things of that nature. This is very important to use while ganking, juking, etc. Keep this in mind!

Permafrost -- This works great with Arctic Assault] because of it's requirement. [[Permafrost requires the target to be afflicted by Frost, Sejuani's passive. Arctic assault applies this to everyone she hits with it, which leaves her to AoE slow the enemy team. It also has great synergy with her ultimate, Glacial Prison, because it also applies Frost to everyone it hits, but this is in a much larger area.

Northern Winds -- You may be thinking, "Why is this useful, it provides no benefit?" You would be correct, but it scales with her health pool. The more health she has, the more damage it does -- not to mention it does more damage to targets afflicted by Frost. It does not improve her tanking, but late game it is useful for exceptional aoe damage output as well as creep farming.

Glacial Prison -- Quite simple, Hits the target, stuns them for 2 seconds, stuns everyone around them for 1 second, applies Frost. If it hits the ground instead of a player, it only stuns people in the aoe for 1 second -- keep this in mind. Also keep in mind that this has great synergy with many champions: Fiddlesticks, Amumu, Ashe, Miss Fortune, Malphite, Veigar, Gangplank, Leona, and even more. Her ultimate being used properly is the key to being a good Sejuani.

Her 2nd role varies from lane to lane. Let's talk about bottom lane, the lane you desperately want to be in.

Bottom lane with a carry is the best thing you can do as Sejuani. While people may not realize it, Sejuani's CC is capable of keeping enemies locked down long enough for your carry to either get a kill or push them out of lane. Let the carry get all the creep farm -- play Sejuani much like you would support, but with more harrasment (for early game, that is).

Top lane is vastly different. Sejuani is not at her strongest in a solo lane, so try not to be forced into it. Your main role here, is to get creep kills and keep the enemy off the tower. Your damage is minimal, so playing passively is all you can do. However, if a gank oppurtunity arrises, you can easily cc them enough for the gank to go over smoothly.

Mid-game, Sejuani's role is quite simple. After you get boots of mobility, roam. Gank as much and as often as you can. This only applies if you're bottom lane, if you're top, you probably won't have time.

Another role of Sejuani's (along with the entire team) is warding. I can not stress enough how important warding is. Buy them all the time, use them -- all the time.

Items

Boots:

-- Boots of Mobility is an exceptional choice. Gives great roaming potential, good intiation, and good escapes if you get out of combat.

-- Ninja Tabi are good for more durability, but Sejuani generally doesn't need much more in the way of durability.

-- While these are a good choice, you'll be getting a tenacity item later.
Defensive Items

-- This is a good item, but only get it if they're caster heavy. Otherwise get Sunfire Aegis.

-- Again, another good item, if you feel as though you need this, get this over Shurelya's Battlesong.

Laning Synergy

"Who should I lane with?!"

Well, there are many answers to that... so here we go!
The Best:

Ashe -- These 2 sisters with their immense CC should easily be able to lock down bottom lane.

Caitlyn -- Caitlyn has sufficient CC and damage.

Miss Fortune -- Not very good CC, but very good damage and can keep up with people via passive.

Vayne -- Good CC, exceptional damage
The Awfuls:

Taric, Janna, Sona, Soraka -- Don't lane with support, you're gimping your team. And by that I mean, generally if you have a support on your team, you'll be top lane. Just that simple.

Everyone else is okay, or shouldn't be bottom lane.

Summary

Sejuani is one of the strongest tanks I've played and one of the most entertaining champions that have been released in quite awhile. She is well rounded and has many tools in her arsenal to be useful to her team.
