Introduction

Welcome to my Shen guide. Shen was one of my favorite champions, and after the patch when they buffed Shen I saw some other players pick Shen again, and I thought: Thanks riot for making this cool champion really viable again!

A few things I want to say before you read the guide:
- Sorry for my English, it isn't really good
- Try it out before commenting or voting please
- Don't start reading with a feeling: this is never going to work
- I'm not a pro, but I just know a lot about Shen and I hope you can learn something from this guide

Runes

My runes are not really surprising I guess, but if u have questions or other suggestions tell me.

Greater Mark of DesolationFor marks I take armor penetration, that's because this build gives Shen a strong auto-attack. 15 arm.pen. will help you to hit through armor of squishy carries.

For Seals I take armor, this well help you to be tankier at the start of the game, it really makes difference. Most times you will be up against an ad bruiser and this will stop them from hurting you hard (This is a Solo-Top oriented guide)

For glyphs I take MR/level, this will give you 24(!) magic resist at level 18. These are my favorite glyphs in game. Self-explanatory I guess, the only other glyphs I use sometimes are flat MR glyphs.

The HP quints will help you to be tanky early. I usually take these, because when you have these you will be able to survive ganks early game without being forced to use flash. The only other Quintessences I recommend are the Greater quintessence of Vigorhealth regen. quintessences. You can damage your opponent, but the damage you received will be healed up fast.

Masteries

Weapon Expertise and get a point in Summoners Insight if you want the cooldown reduction on Flash.

I take 21 points in defense. You can switch, but these are the masteries I prefer. But you can switch it for almost everything else in defence because all defensive masteries are good on Shen.

Items

Most games I start with Doran's Shield. It gives HP, which stacks nice with your passive (explained later) Healt regeneration and Armor. In my opinion the best way to start.

When I go back the first time I buy boots, and a Heart of Gold. When you have more money buy instant Mercury's Treads. Always take a ward, even though your abilities allow you to escape from most danger. You will be tanky right now, get extra gold from Heart of gold, and decent resistances.

I buy Warmog's next, because it takes a while to load it with CS. And since your Armor and MR are already above 100, you will be incredible tanky. And it gives your passive a nice boost.

Wit's End should be your next item. This item increases your attack speed, deals some extra damage and you get extra magic resist. The attack speed is especially good with your passive. Sometimes I buy a Chain vest before Wit's end, but only when I get raped by their AD carry. I always get a Chain vest after Wit's end.

Trinity Force will be your next item. It has everything Shen needs. All stats benefit him, and the passive will give you some burst! With trinity you can get their carries to half HP after the taunt! Since some of Shen's abilities are low on cooldown, you could benefit a lot from this passive. This item gives Shen: AP, AD, Attack Speed, Movement speed, Healt, a slow, and nice burst. Some people might think this is a strange item, but you should really try it, Trinity Force makes Shen a beast!

Last items will be Randuin's Omen and Force of Nature. These items increase your resistances, tons of healt regeneration (you will have 4100 HP now so Force of Nature's passive is really strong), And you can slow and decrease attack speed of enemy champions with the Randuin's active. Don't forget to use!
You will be able to tank a whole team now, and you will deal tons of damage and be some of the scariest late game champions!

Skill Sequence

Vorpal Blade makes your early game, You can deal some damage at your opponent, and you will heal for every hit at that target the next 5 seconds. It heals a flat amount +2% of your max HP. I max Vorpal Blade always when possible.

When you time Feint good it will block a lot of damage. It has a short cooldown, so don't be afraid to use it a lot. FEINT DOESN'T BLOCK CC! I had some questions in game so I just wanted to make this clear.

This is a teamfight-winning ability! When they are close together, you can taunt a whole team for 1,5 seconds! And during the taunt, your opponents will deal 50% damage. Always turn on Feint when you taunt someone, it will block a lot of damage. I max it last because the cooldown doesn't go down a lot each level, the taunt duration is 1,5 seconds at all ranks, and the damage isn't very much. I take 1 point in level 4 for a couple of reasons. When you get ganked, u can use it to escape, when a teammate comes to gank this will make it hard for you opponent to escape, when you get level 6 and you protect a teammate you need the taunt to protect him more and finish the enemy. Shadow dash costs a lot of energy, but it will restore 40 energy per enemy-CHAMPION hit, so don't miss or al your energy is lost and you will be pretty useless in teamfights.

You shield an ally and teleport to them after 3 seconds. Always look on the minimap to see fights coming. This ability is global, so you can turn a lot of fights in your favor. The best example is when people try to turret dive your bot or mid lane, you can shield them and teleport+taunt will secure a kill. Tell teammates when your ult is up, so they can make a fight going. ALSO TELL YOUR TEAMMATES TO NOT RUN AWAY, a lot of people run away to safety when you come to help them, but it is better for them to run towards the opponent so you can taunt when you are teleported to the location. And of course you will always level your ult at level 6, 11 and 16.

(passive) Ki Strike increases your damage a lot early and late game. Ki Strike Cooldown will decrease every time you attack an enemy, and that makes the Attack Speed items i choose stronger on Shen. And it deals more damage when you build more HP, so with this build you will be able to benefit as much as possible from this strong passive!

Summoner Spells

I always take Flash on Shen. Flash has so many uses, offensive and defensive. You can escape from most ganks with Flash and Shadow Dash. And when their carry tries to escape and they are out of Shadow Dash range use Flash first to close the gap.

Ignite is really good on Shen, it will help you to beat your lane opponent and it is good against healers. It helps you to kill people, while your base damage isn't really high.

Exhaust is the spell I take against high damage dealers on top, like Tryndamere or Fiora, Exhaust will remove almost all their damage for a short duration, and it is helpful to counter ganks or when you gank with your ultimate.

Teamfight

Shen is super strong in teamfight, your main goals: protect your carries (with Shadow Dash and Stand United), and rape their carries. A good Shadow Dash will win your teamfights! You reduce all their damage, and it allows your carries to hit all skillshots and hit their whole team with AoE damage.

Some nice tip: Most times teamfights are happening somewhere far away from your top lane. Keep pushing when both teams just poke a little, and when all hell breaks loose go to the battle with Stand United (it is global!) Sometimes you can get a turret, or one of their team goes top and you can go in and win the fight in a 5vs4 situation. Never forget to activate Randuin's after your taunt!

Just the start of my guide

This is just a start, but it might help some people to play Shen. So I already published it, but I haven't finished yet. I will add stuff to this guide, but be patient please. Leave comments to help me to improve this guide, and I will try to perfect it but it will take time.
