Thank you for your support guides, i'm a somewhat still new to the game started late december of 2018,although I noticed mobility boots really works in low elo since everyone in the enemy team tries to hunt the support all the time

Hey Eyecri,

No problem, thanks for the kind words :3 boots options sometimes allow for a slightly different playstyle. It's upto the player which they prefer more.

Different boots can work better in different elo's especially when talking about roaming boots like Mobility, e.g. in higher elo there's better responsiveness to roams, leading to a better chance at getting something done like getting a kill/assist or burning summs.

Cya around and have fun in your games <3

It was so fun to play with sona in aram 5vs 5 . Your build was brilliant and also the runes . The enemy team did not have any chance against us :P

Hey DiF3r3nce,

Awh, thank you :3

Glad you're having fun! Sona on ARAM is actually super nice because you're 5v5 and everyone's constantly in the aura buffs :D

I've been having some more fun with Sona recently too :3 her mid-late game is so enjoyable <3

Thanks for the kind words once again, appreciate it alot! Cya around.

Hey friends <3

I just want to do a quick announcement on the new addition of the chapter 'Mental state' to the guide!

It's been a while since the last addition. It felt good writing about something new and as big and important as the mental state of League players, especially when the words 'mental state' are being thrown out there non-stop in the pro scene.

It was fun writing about it and it opened up a new view on certain specific things for me, so hopefully it will be just as useful to you as it was to me!

Enjoy reading it :3

Heya,

On the cons, can you put commas in between each thing? It lowkey gave my brain an aneurysm.

Thanks,

Hey there! Very nice guide, complete in all aspects, champion-wise as well as covering the support role in general!
Something i have to say is that maxing your W first as Sona has a great toll on her Mana Pool which can be problematic in laning phase. Maxing Q first instead provides a nice chunk of damage for you and your allies through your aura without the mana issues as it is a less mana hungry ability through all levels. Still, i was just trying to make an alternate skill order suggestion, skill leveling is subjective and also based on different matchups, so with proper mana management, W max is a viable option as well of course!
Anyways, sorry for the long post and props on the great guide again!

Hey Irish Coffee,

Thank you very much c: that's very kind of you <3

I agree that maxing W first on Sona consumes alot of mana. To be honest I've always been maxing Q first on Sona untill I started playing alot more Nami. On Nami I max W, I noticed a similarity and started maxing W on Sona aswell since around season 7/8. I've found it to be more useful utility wise (healing/shielding), your damage will be delayed to mid game but I think the trade off is worth it.

There are some reasons why I'm maxing W aswell as some great benefits:

Sona as we all know is a very very squishy support, moreso than some other AP supports. By maxing W first you will heal more and have a bigger shield to prevent yourself from dying when being targeted for your squishyness. I've surprised many opponents (including champs like Khazix) that try to focus you down but don't have quite the damage because you maxed W, keeping yourself alive (as the opponents are in confusion why they were not able to have enough damage lmao) while your team finishes them off.

So the surprise factor is a big deal as opponents miscalculate their damage (people automatically assume Sona players max Q).

Second, since you're not maxing Q your opponents are more likely to ignore/disrespect your Q's, this leads to more safe Tribute proc's for more gold income.

Third, in certain matchups where you're being zoned/outranged in laning phase (for example Jinx) it's difficult to constantly proc your Q's.

Overall in mid game/teamfights I've found that the big shields from W max that are applied to everyone are much more of use than the Q max that I've been doing in the past.

The only real downside as you already mentioned is the high mana toll. You can't spam W as much as Nami during the laning phase because Sona's W is like 50% shielding and 50% healing, meaning that you should only use it during trades. However once you get your Frostfang/Tear it only starts getting better.

Hah you call that a long post? :P You should check my Soraka guide discussion section XD don't sweat it ^^ thank you once again <3

Hope the explanation/reasonings are understandable and maybe it can change your perspective, give it a shot if you haven't already? Who knows maybe you may find the utility more useful, it's upto you :P

Cya around!

You made your points very clear and totally understandable!
I am a very long time Sona player, so i have experimented with different skill leveling paths through the years, but now i may max w in more occasions :)
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, cya around too!

Hello SwelteringMuffin,

I haven't been active much here, but I have been trying out new support champs other than Soraka.
And now, Sona is kind of like my new support main.

Thank you for the guide. ^^
I really like the idea of grabbing an Tear of the Goddess early on since it serves a lot to remove Sona's mana issues and dramatically increase her spamming potential.
Also, upgrading Tear of the Goddess into Seraph's Embrace later in the game gives a power boost as well.

Hey gameboyAdv!

It's been a while indeed :P That's cool! Sona is my third most played champion (in terms of champion points), Nami being my 2nd highest maybe you'll like her alot too if you haven't tried her yet.

You're welcome ^.^ it is a little bit outdated though, it's not as perfect as I want it to be (like my Soraka guide), but it does consume quite a bit of time making guides :3 I also grab a Tear pretty early on, usually I go Frostfang, Tear then straight into Ardent. I also max W (heal) on her, I have found more success in doing so, I like to compare it with maxing W on Nami.

If you wanna know more you can find me streaming at https://www.twitch.tv/swelteringmuffin

Hi again Muffin,

You have helped me with your top notch guides to max up my support game, especially with Soraka and also on Sona. You had recommended me to try Nami in the past, and I have tried playing a handful of games as her ... but I found Sona much quicker to master. I have not tried much of Janna tho I think they are interms similar in play style (along with Nami and Sona); but much difficult to get used to (your thoughts on Janna ?)

Anyways, I shall be playing more games with Nami, and btw the teams I play with are starting to demand a tank support these days.., so any idea which support should I try afterwards with tanky potential aswell ???

Btw I do watch your streams from time and again ;)

I love the idea of full AP Sona, but it doesn't work in practice once opponents get good enough to reliably blow you up in one rotation/dive. This happens all day long at about plat2+.

Until then, it's fun to go for big numbers tho :)

Hello Esbern1590,

On the right champion and at the right time Lich Bane is an OP item. I know that Sona was known back in the day for her Lich Bane build and burst of damage, but when I look at champions and items I try to pick the best and what will impact the game the most to have an easier time.

I know that Lich Bane is a great burst item for AP champions like Sona, but in my opinion it doesn't fit in the build with the rest of the items, other items are stronger and more team focused. You'll be able to do much more and provide alot more to your team while barely losing any burst damage.

If there are any questions feel free to ask

Take care (~o.o)~

Hey bottled,

Sorry for the late response, I haven't been that active lately. I've been testing it myself and I can say that Ardent is a really strong item for healers/shielders that want the AP scaling, especially on champions like Sona that has aoe shielding (to apply passive on alot of teammates). Ardent Censer in combination with Athene's is even better. Therefore I've added Ardent Censer in the build and updated the guide.

As for Rod of Ages it's a great item but I feel like this item should be build early in the game so there's time to gain stacks, in my opinion there's no room to buy this item in early game because the other items are more essential.

Have a good day :)
