Swain Support (Basic but effective)

By Frappessb
Ability Rundown
- Passive -

Innate - Ravenous: Swain can periodically target a nearby immobilized enemy champion to rip out a Soul Fragment from them, dealing 20 − 105 (based on level) (+ 30% AP) magic damage and pulling them 290-units towards him over a 0.25-second cast time. If the target would be brought past Swain, they are instead knocked back the excess distance.

Swain cannot use Ravenous while unable to cast abilities.

Enemy champions also leave behind a Soul Fragment for 16 seconds upon their death, which can be harvested after 1 second if Swain is near them.

Innate - Flock: Swain's ravens bring nearby Soul Fragments to him, healing him for 4 / 5.5 / 7% (based on level) of his maximum health. Each Soul Fragment collected increases his maximum health by 5.

- Q -
Active: Swain unleashes five bolts of eldritch power in a cone in the target direction, dealing magic damage to all enemies within. Enemies can be hit by multiple bolts, taking bonus magic damage.

- W -
Active: Swain summons a demonic eye at the target location, granting sight of the area for 2 seconds and exploding after 1.5 seconds, dealing magic damage to all enemies within, (halved against minions), and slowing them for 2.5 seconds.

- E -

Active: Swain launches a demonic wave in the target direction, dealing magic damage to enemies it passes through.

Upon reaching its maximum distance, the wave returns to Swain, detonating at the first enemy hit, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies and rooting them for 1.5 seconds.

- R -

Active: Swain frees the demon within for 12 seconds, becoming ghosted, gaining bonus health and doubling the health gained from Soul Fragments.

While Demonic Ascension is active, Swain drains the lifeforce of all nearby enemies, dealing them magic damage each second and healing himself each second per target affected. The heal is reduced by 90% against minions and monsters.

After a 0.5-second delay, Swain can end Demonic Ascension's effects early to cast Demonflare, and automatically does so at the end of its duration.

The targets do not have to be visible to be affected by this ability.

- R (Recast)-
Active: Swain releases a nova of energy, dealing a base amount of magic damage to all nearby enemies plus 37.5% of the health drained during Demonic Ascension, with the total damage capped.
Starting Game / Leashing Jungle
- Leashing Jungle -
Most of the time, jungle is going to want a leash from bot lane. To prepare for this, try and have the starter items already bought so you can run to river brush or tri-brush (Res side start only) to ward in case someone tries to invade the jungle or sit in tri-brush (Red side start only) get some early kills.

With the wards set up, you can wait until 1:30 for the jungle monster to spawn. Attack it until it gets to around 500 or 600 Hp, and then begin walking to lane.
Laning
- Laning -
At the start of laning phase, while your still level 1, try and position near or inside the bushes to maintain an advantage in the form of vision. If the enemy doesn't follow you to bush and lets you have it, keep it. This is a good advantage as it forces the enemy to be near jungle and have a huge vision disadvantage as they can't see you casting abilities until after they're partially out.

Remember, Swains E will go through enemies on the way out, but back in it will explode on the first enemy hit. The explosion is sizable and can hit people from a surprising distance away. Try and position the tip of your E to hit the enemy champion when they are near a group of minions to allow some room to miss as the minions can trigger the explosion and root the champion any ways.

At level 2, try and add a W after landing an E to maximize the amount of stacks you can get for your passive. Each stack gives you HP which can quickly make you tanky in the early game. This also helps with your Ultimate but we will explain that later in the guide. You can also try and use your W to position the enemy champions into an area where its easier to hit an E, though I usually only do this when they aren't easy to hit already.

At level 3 you gain access to your Q, which is a huge damage tool for Swain. Swains Q does more damage the closer you are to an enemy as you land more parts of it. This doesn't mean always close the gap to land it as it does decent damage with even only 1 part of the Q landing. Use this catch fleeing champions as it has a semi long reach, longer then even your ultimate.

At level 6 you finally have access to your ultimate. Your ultimate will give you 200 max HP as well as DOUBLE the Hp given to you per stack of your passive. You will also begin to heal a small amount from each enemy in a big radius around you. You will see a white bar appear underneath the health bar over Swains head, try and get this as close to full as possible. The bar will turn red when completely filled. At that point you can Recast you R to send out a wave of damage that scales with how much you filled the bar.

Its best to use your ult at the start of engagements as it gives you enough times to fill the bar up. This will also make it harder to kill you as your constantly healing and have considerably increased max HP.
Roaming
- Roaming -
Roaming isn't something you should worry about unless your experienced in playing support. Roaming is when you leave your lane during an advantage state to go and try to help either Mid lane of the Jungle. Swain makes a great roamer as he has valuable CC (Crowd Control) with the Root from his E and the pull from his passive.
Team Fights
- Objectives -
As a support, it is your job to provide vision via wards. Typically I would try and ward the bot-side river, covering Tri-brush (Stealth Ward), Dragon pit (Control Ward), and River brush (Stealth Ward), 45 to 60 seconds before the second dragon spawn and after.

- Initiating Team Fights -
Try and grab someone with your E to force a team fight or at the very least, a trade. Continue to poke with your Q and occasionally E to try and force a fight.

- Team Fighting -
When a team fight starts, try to activate your ultimate if available and try to get into the center of the action. With you E, try and grab a back-line target and pull them closer.

If your health is running low, with your ultimate active, activate Zhonya's Hourglass to become untargetable and invulnerable for 2 seconds. This allows your ultimate to still heal you and fill the bar without allowing you to take damage. after you come out, immediately recast your R to provide a burst of damage before you can be silenced or killed. If you aren't surrounded and your team is still alive, you can wait to recast it as to not waste it.
Conclusion
- Outro / TL.DR. -
    Force trades with E.

Stack W with E for better stacking.

    Try and get bush advantage.

Be at the center of most team fights.
