Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Fairly easy since his headbutt brings him close to you or your ADC, pretty much Shield who gets hit and stun Ali or the enemy attacker to shut down their assault... or at least hurt them back.
Annie
Annie is always the seek-destroy-tilt support. Stay away while her passive is active, if she gets too close Shield. If she stuns, pop your ult and heal in succession while trying to beat her to utilize your passive. BE CAREFUL.
Bard
A good Bard player will make you absolutely useless. If you are facing a GOOD Bard, only go to stun when he is roaming or if you've seen him use his Q. He can stun you before you let yours off and his ult will make yours a waste of mana. A bad Bard player will be useless... unless they catch on quick.
Blitzcrank
Blitz is the Anti-Character support. He is a divider, and should be either banned or dealt with carefully. A lot of people will say he is easy to dodge, and while that is true, if his ADC is aggressive enough, you may not notice that grab coming.
Braum
Braum is annoying as a melee support, but he can be beatable. The only thing he has on you is the added Magic Resist on his hop to his ADC. Post 6 he can really start messing up your plays. Ult with care.
Dr. Mundo
People are starting to play Mundo support since he is falling out of meta in top lane. Be careful. His cleaver will wreck your health and will typically do more damage than your shield so be prepared to dodge from the bushes or fog of war. He can regen health and split push almost as effectively as he can in top lane.
Galio
Galio is Taric's counter opposite, practically. Since you don't build Magic Resist as much, you are going to have some manner of difficulty. But, he doesn't build armor. Your ult should be saved for before he tried to ult so you MAY be safe from his explosion. Just remember his ult might last longer than your depending on timing.
Karma
Karma is the offensive support prime. She can do more damage in one combo than your shield AND heal. Post 6 you MIGHT have the upper hand if you get an item building from Aegis, but she will probably have Magic Pen. Boots, and build Liandry's. Be careful
Kayle
Kayle isn't often picked as support, but when she is, she has little difficulty keeping her ADC away from your stun. If she means to stay support, she can just heal and save her ADC; if she gets any sort of damage, you will need Thornmail and Spirits Visage to survive practical trade.... assuming she's good.
Leona
Leona players typically THINK they are countering you, but this is just a lane of "Save your stun, Kill Leona." Stun her when she tries to all in your ADC, or stun her ADC.
Lulu
Lulu is.... complicated in lane. Her dynamic skill shots make her difficult to predict and her polymorph makes her kinda annoying. AP makes her far more annoying and Attack Speed makes her taxing to deal with. If she is selfish with her shield and pokes your ADC or you, she'll run down your mana making you keep up with her CONSTANT damage. Frozen Heart and Spirits Visage make her easier.
Lux
Lux is not a support. If you see Lux, she is in a kill lane, whether her ADC knows it or not. Rush Aegis for the aura, and double up with Banshee's. It RUINS your build, but if she gets fed and grabs a Mejai's, it might be game. REMEMBER: Lux has a major weakness, perpendicular lines. She is linear, walk AWAY from everything. Don't walk down her ult, walk sideways AWAY from it.
Malphite
Malphite charges your ADC and he, the ADC or both should be stunned. Knock off his passive and it'll be easier to scare him off.
Maokai
Maokai isn't often picked as support and his zoning is a problem but his charge attack isn't. Stun him when he comes up and let your ADC poke him. Communicate clearly that when you stun him, poke him, don't try to fight because his health is too much. His ult makes him a problem for the same reason it make Galio a problem. Ult when he starts it, stun him and ping everyone away.
Morgana
Morgana's spell shield makes your stun useless..... on one target. An easy way to scare it out of her is actually to walk toward her or the ADC, you may take auto attacks, and she WILL try to snare you, but if you can dodge that and shield or heal the damage, she will more than likely use her shield, wait until it expires and stun! Her ult will screw you over at the worst of times if you try anything. If you can't get out in time, shield-ult then heal while it counts down.
Nami
Nami can bubble you when you get too close to her or her ADC, but that's not so bad. She out heals you but you can out damage her in a pinch with proper positioning. Ult in relation to her ADC, not her. Since you are still vulnerable to Crowd Control, ulting for her ult will be useless, just walk out of the way.
Nautilus
Nautilus has a habit of locking people down. That makes him annoying, but nothing that can't be dealt with. Ult when his gets halfway to its target. Stun him CONSTANTLY.
Orianna
Orianna was reclassified as a support in the Mid Year Mage Update. She is rarely played in that role so I can't say much about it. Stay away from the ball.
Poppy
Poppy suffers from the same problem most melee supports do against Taric, charging you or your ADC is far more dangerous that it is beneficial. Remember to stun her after her shield toss so you can stomp it to the ground and ruin her shield. Her ult can divide you and your ADC so they don't benefit from your Bastion connection. Be careful, if she winds up, try to stun her or get away.
Sona
Sona is, sadly, you but better. A good Sona can destroy you or your ADC in lane, and do significant damage to the other. Try to ult as soon as her ult animation starts, it's hard to predict and harder to time but it can save you or your ADC (assuming YOU don't get stunned).
Soraka
Soraka is the worst when it comes to you dealing damage. She is the target in lane but if you forget about her ADC you are going to be full of holes. If she silences you, you can't stun. If she silences your ADC, you can't trade. If she hits her Starcall, she get healed, meaning she can heal more. I'd say rush Boots of Swiftness and just keep moving. If you can keep her dead, you can save your team.
Taric
Not saying much about this. If you are reading this guide, it's probably for Ranked. If you are playing Taric in Draft Mode, you won't play against yourself. So, if you are in a Banless Blind Pick, just be better than the other Taric.
Thresh
Thresh has his ult to ruin your day, as well as his displacement. He has more control than you, like a little mini-Blitzcrank, but if you can zone him out of gathering souls, he's easy for you to 1v1.
Zilean
Zilean has some killer potential. His ult is better if you all in him or his ADC post 6 since it will revive the target. The higher his AP, the higher that heal and his damage. He can use his combo to double tap you or your ADC when you go in for a stun or when you set up your ult.
Zyra
Zyra, while beautiful, is dangerous since the rework. They really nailed her zoning and plant control. Stomp them out and post 6, ult when someone gets pinned down with Grasping Roots since that initiate her combo 90% of the time.
Taric's runes typically run more to the side of Armor and Health, which are great with his kit.
If you are looking to deal a lot of damage with your Dazzle, try some AP per Level Gylphs for some early game safety (so you aren't stealing kills) while securing your place in teams fights outside of Heals, Shields, and Invulnerability. If surviving is more your worry, grab some Scaling Magic Resist Glyphs, these will help you keep standing in the face of some magic types.
Taking some Hybrid Pen. Marks gives your Dazzle and your passive, Bravado, extra damage. These are easily exchanged for Armor Marks.
If you feel confident and want to exchange your Quintessences (which I don't recommend) go for flat AP Quints. These give you extra bite early and increases your Heal.
Masteries
Masteries
Taric typically runs more tank than this, but the Cunning Keystone, Windcaller's Blessing increases not only Starlight's Touch and Bastion, but imparts MORE of your armor and some of your magic resist with Bastion, but in an area with Starlight's Touch.
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Pros:
High Armor
Good sustain
Peel while moving
invulnerability makes for good turret seizing
Cons:
Spell Shields make you useless
Not squishy but easily caught out
No reliable "medium" damage. Usually too much or too little
Dazzle can exhaust all Relic Shield charges
Creeping
Creeping
With Relic Shield, try to focus the artillery minions for more gold while trying to pick up CS your ADC might miss, better you grab it with Relic Shield than miss it completely.
Team Work
Team Work
In team fights, use your Starlight's Touch and Cosmic Radiance when everyone is close by. Use Bastion strategically, assessing the area by the following criteria:
Who needs the shield (HP or nearby enemies)
What objective is being taken or stolen (where enemies may come from or leave)
Who can you hit with Dazzle quickest
When using Dazzle, don't be afraid to flash in for a cheap kill on a HIGH PRIORITY ENEMY. If it secures a kill on their highest lvl or DPS, don't feel too bad about flashing in to take them out, or stealing that kill.
Being a Support/How to deal with ADCs
Being a Support/How to deal with ADCs
Being a support main myself, I am VERY well versed in many types of ADCs. Rarely will supports be thanked for their efforts and people are usually quick to blame them for most things. THIS IS NOT THE SAME FOR EVERYONE. I've have ADCs ONLY thank me and some practically grovel at my feet. Be aware that the MUTE function is perfectly viable if you are being harassed. If you get a kill and people get mad, just say sorry if you feel like it. DO NOT FEEL BAD ABOUT CARRYING IF YOU DO. If you end up carrying and saving people, they tend to come around.
IF YOU SAVE SOMEONE AT LOW HEALTH AND TAKE THEIR KILL:
"Better I get the kill than you dying."
Be good, be unapologetic for your good plays, be generous.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you for reading. Leave a comment if you want, let me know what you think and please remember: This build is not an every game build, it is more for when a team lacks damage or if you feel like carrying.
