I almost always use the recommended build, defense varies based on opposing team comp.
but heres why I pick what I do. take banshees instead of angel if you suck at blocking cc with your riposte.

Ravenous Hydra: Offers needed wave clear and sustain for your endeavors in the top lane.
Trinity Force: Solid stats, proc, bonus movement speed, and phage passive to help stick
CDR Boots w/ Furor: Furor to help stick to scrubs, cdr to help you keep lunging onto enemies and proc-ing your passive
Randuin's Omen: Good defense, aura helps a ton, slows offering more stick
Maw of Malmortius: Gives MR, passive makes you stronger and you can count on taking hits as a frontliner lel
Guardian Angel: As a frontliner with no escape you'll have to keep on chugging and so if you die you get another chance buddy, plus good bonuses

Use this **** and make kids wish they were never born you sun of a gun.
