Introduction - About Talon

This guide will teach you how to play, and build Talon effectively.

Talon is a powerful champion who benefits from slowing his opponents, and deals high burst damage.

Runes

Talon benefits from high AD early game rather than armor penetration like most other AD carries. Greater Mark of Attack Damage is a great rune for Talon because of the early game damage, Along with Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage for a total of almost +15 AD, which is quite a bit early game.

Both of these runes can be switched out for the AD per level runes instead of flat AD to give him more AD later in the game, the runes you choose is completely up to you.

Greater Seal of Armor and Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist are there for early to late game durability, making Talon that much harder to kill.

Items

Mercury's Treads are arguably the best boots for any champion because of the Tenacity. Tenacity will reduce the duration of any Crowd Control effects on you. Also this gives you a little bit of Magic Resist which is good for early game.

Wriggle's Lantern is a great item for many reasons, One it is awesome for creep farming, Two it is an unlimited ward, Three it gives you good lifesteal, damage, and armor all of which Talon requires. This is a great item for laning early game.

Trinity Force is possibly the best item for Talon because of all the effects it gives, One it can slow enemies on hit which will increase Talon damage by 10% with his passive Mercy, Two it gives the effect whenever you activate an ability you will deal bonus damage equal to your Attack Damage giving you a great burst with Noxian Diplomacy, and Three it increases movement speed, Attack speed, and Crit chance.

Youmuu's Ghostblade is a great item for Talon because it reduces cooldowns, gives good amount of Attack Damage, gives Crit chance, Armor penetration, and has an amazing active which is good for fights along with chasing down opponents.

Guardian Angel is there mostly for the resistances it gives, along with the passive that revives you on death so if you get targeted in team fights this item is a great one to carry around.

Maw of Malmortius is basically a upgraded versio of hexdrinker that gives more damage and a better passive, a great item for playing against people like Karthus or Annie who can burst down your health very fast.

Skills

Mercy grants talon an additional 10% damage on enemies when they're slowed, this goes really well with Phage which is later built into Trinity Force and also Rake.

Noxian Diplomacy is just like say, Nidalee Bushwhack and Caitlyn Yordle Snap Trap because it reveals the enemy for the duration of the bleeding effect, in my opinion the bleeding effect is almost completely useless unless the opponent is at like 50 HP. However, this ability also deals extra damage than a basic attack normally would and works really well with Sheen which is later built into Trinity Force because it deals a high burst damage.

Rake is a very useful ability for talon, not only does it slow the opponent but it also deals a lot of damage this makes it easy to either run away from the opponent, or get close to them. Maxing this skill first will provide you with the most damage early game.

Cutthroat allows you to jump to an enemy, silencing them and you deal slightly more damage to them during the effect duration. this ability I typically use to get close and then I burst my opponent with Noxian Diplomacy then Rake which can sometimes take out an opponent, if this doesn't kill the target then you can Shadow Assault them and or Ignite them.

Shadow Assault turns you invisible for a short duration and increases your movement speed by quite a bit, while also damaging all nearby enemies around you. This ability is often used to run away from opponents however it can also be used to chase down opponents or even burst them in team fights. Along with all of this it has a really low cooldown.

Summoner Spells

Flash is a must have on any champion.

Ignite is great for getting the last couple hundred health points on an escaping enemy. I prefer Ignite over Exhaust any day for talon because he has his Rake and Trinity Force to slow enemies already.

Laning and Team Work

Sorry if these levels are a bit off for early, mid, and late game however these are the levels I consider to be early, mid, and late game.

Early game (level 1-8) - You will want to play cautiously, and not too agressive, try to get as much farm in as possible. Rake is a great spell for farming if you can't get close to the minions. if the enemies harass you too much you can always use Cutthroat to silence and close the gap, make sure to plan this with your team mate before you just jump in otherwise you could end up dead.

Mid game (level 9-16) - around now everyone will start roaming, try to stay in lane as much as you can and farm as many minions as you can, however make sure to help any allies when they need help. Don't sit and farm if the whole enemy team is pushing mid. Also don't forget to get red buff if your jungler allows you.

Late game (level 17-18) - Now all of the team fights will start happening, with Talon you can easily use Shadow Assault to get near the squishies in your opponents team or Cutthroat and then use Shadow Assault to get out of there, make sure to always target squishy carries first. Remember to continue getting red buff if the jungler allows you.
